Using DSpace as backend service - Workflow-centric repository development in practice

2019

We moved from a DSpace -centric development model to a workflow-centric model in order to speed up our repository development. In the workflow-centric model the starting point is not the workflows that the *system* can offer but the workflows that are needed. The organisation defines efficient workflows for content management and then implements tools that support those workflows independently from repository software. The result is a network of applications where the repository software is just one part of the network via REST-api. The best part of the model is that it allows quick experimenting without any significant risks (financial or otherwise). The model also helps to separate tasks …

Treatment of multiple traumatized anterior teeth associated with an alveolar bone fracture in a 20-year-old patient: A 3-year follow up

2014

Intrusive luxation is a type of recognizable luxation injury represented by a deeper axial displacement of the tooth toward the alveolar bone. Treatment strategies include waiting for the tooth to return to its position, immediate surgical repositioning, and repositioning through dental traction by orthodontic devices. The aim of this case report was to present the management of severe dental trauma and later restoration following IADT. A 20-year-old patient was presented after fainting at home four hours before, resulting in a dento-alveolar trauma. Clinical examinations revealed a traumatic intrusion, in 1.2, 1.1 and 2.1, uncomplicated crown fractures in 1.1 and 2.1 and a complicated crow…

A snapshot of the transition from monogenetic volcanoes to composite volcanoes: Case study on the Wulanhada Volcanic Field (northern China)

2022

The transition processes from monogenetic volcanoes to composite volcanoes are poorly understood. The Late Pleistocene to Holocene intraplate monogenetic Wulanhada Volcanic Field (WVF) in northern China provides a snapshot of such a transition. Here we present petrographic observations, mineral chemistry, bulk rock major and trace element data, thermobarometry, and a partial melting model for the WVF to evaluate the lithology and partial melting degree of the mantle source, the crystallization conditions, and pre-eruptive magmatic processes occurring within the magma plumbing system. The far-field effect of India–Eurasia collision resulted in a relatively high degree (10 %–20 %) of partial …

Parallel laser micromachining based on diffractive optical elements with dispersion compensated femtosecond pulses

2013

We experimentally demonstrate multi-beam high spatial resolution laser micromachining with femtosecond pulses. The effects of chromatic aberrations as well as pulse stretching on the material processed due to diffraction were significantly mitigated by using a suited dispersion compensated module (DCM). This permits to increase the area of processing in a factor 3 in comparison with a conventional setup. Specifically, 52 blind holes have been drilled simultaneously onto a stainless steel sample with a 30 fs laser pulse in a parallel processing configuration.

Accelerating short read mapping on an FPGA (abstract only)

2012

The explosive growth of short read datasets produced by high throughput DNA sequencing technologies poses a challenge to the mapping of short reads to a reference genome in terms of sensitivity and execution speed. Existing methods often use a restrictive error model for computing the alignments to improve speed, whereas more flexible error models are generally too slow for large-scale applications. Although a number of short read mapping software tools have been proposed, designs based on hardware are relatively rare. In this paper, we present a hybrid system for short read mapping utilizing both software and field programmable gate array (FPGA)-based hardware. The compute intensive semi-g…
