An abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) in combination with duplication of the inferior vena cava (IVC), the right renal artery (RRA) and the right renal …
1990
Intra-abdominal abnormality of vessels may sometimes lead to complications. A case of the rare combination of an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) at the origin of the inferior mesenteric a. with duplications of the inferior vena cava (IVC), the right renal a. (RRA) and the right renal v. (RRV) as well as absence of the left common iliac v. is reported.
Misidentification Delusions : prevalence in different types of dementia and validation of a structured Questionnaire
2016
International audience; Misidentification delusions (MDs) are considered relatively rare psychopathologic phenomena that may occur within the context of psychiatric or neurological conditions. The purpose of this study was to assess the prevalence of MD in different types of dementia, correlate the presence of MD with demographic and clinical variables, and validate a specific questionnaire. We examined 146 subjects with Alzheimer disease, 21 with Lewy body dementia, 6 with frontotemporal dementia, and 13 with vascular dementia (subcortical type), who were consecutively enrolled in the study from 2 Memory Clinics. Patients had a mean age of 78.7±6.4 years and an Mini-Mental State Examinatio…
The “Jacobsen Flap” for the Treatment of Stages III–IV Dupuytren’s Disease: A Review of 98 Cases
2008
The treatment of severe Dupuytren’s disease of the little finger is controversial: several techniques have been described with variable reported results and postoperative complications. This paper reviews 98 cases that underwent surgery between 2001 and 2006 using the Jacobsen flap procedure, a modification of the McCash technique. We found this technique relatively simple and it allowed significant correction of the contracture, with a low rate of complication. We believe this is an excellent alternative to dermofasciectomy or amputation.
Sex reversal from functional disomy of Xp: Prenatal and post-mortem findings.
2008
Translocations involving the short arms of the X and Y chromosomes are uncommon and are often associated with anomalies in gonadal development. Segmental duplications of the X chromosome interfere with the formation of the testis in patients with a 46,XY karyotype. The gene products located within the duplicated segment, when present in double dose, may affect on male sex development. We report on a fetus with karyotype 46,XY,der (14)t(X;14) (p10;p10)dn. Attached to chromosome 14 is the entire short arm of the X chromosome. Therefore, the fetus is affected with a disomy of Xp, resulting in complete male to female sex reversal, as well as other structural defects. To the best of our knowledg…
Deep-Learning-Enabled Fast Optical Identification and Characterization of 2D Materials.
2020
© 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim Advanced microscopy and/or spectroscopy tools play indispensable roles in nanoscience and nanotechnology research, as they provide rich information about material processes and properties. However, the interpretation of imaging data heavily relies on the “intuition” of experienced researchers. As a result, many of the deep graphical features obtained through these tools are often unused because of difficulties in processing the data and finding the correlations. Such challenges can be well addressed by deep learning. In this work, the optical characterization of 2D materials is used as a case study, and a neural-network-based algorithm is de…
Applying the approximation method PAINT and the interactive method NIMBUS to the multiobjective optimization of operating a wastewater treatment plant
2014
Using an interactive multiobjective optimization method called NIMBUS and an approximation method called PAINT, preferable solutions to a five-objective problem of operating a wastewater treatment plant are found. The decision maker giving preference information is an expert in wastewater treatment plant design at the engineering company Pöyry Finland Ltd. The wastewater treatment problem is computationally expensive and requires running a simulator to evaluate the values of the objective functions. This often leads to problems with interactive methods as the decision maker may get frustrated while waiting for new solutions to be computed. Thus, a newly developed PAINT method is used to spe…
Genetic algorithms for 3d reconstruction with supershapes
2009
Supershape model is a recent primitive that represents numerous 3D shapes with several symmetry axes. The main interest of this model is its capability to reconstruct more complex shape than superquadric model with only one implicit equation. In this paper we propose a genetic algorithms to re-construct a point cloud using those primitives. We used the pseudo-Euclidean distance to introduce a threshold to handle real data imperfection and speed up the process. Simulations using our proposed fitness functions and a fitness function based on inside-outside function show that our fitness function based on the pseudo-Euclidean distance performs better.
COMPUTATION OF LOCAL VOLATILITIES FROM REGULARIZED DUPIRE EQUATIONS
2005
We propose a new method to calibrate the local volatility function of an asset from observed option prices of the underlying. Our method is initialized with a preprocessing step in which the given data are smoothened using cubic splines before they are differentiated numerically. In a second step the Dupire equation is rewritten as a linear equation for a rational expression of the local volatility. This equation is solved with Tikhonov regularization, using some discrete gradient approximation as penalty term. We show that this procedure yields local volatilities which appear to be qualitatively correct.
Parallel Simulated Annealing: Getting Super Linear Speedups
2005
The study described in this paper tries to improve and combine different approaches that are able to speed up applications of the Simulated Annealing model. It investigates separately two main aspects concerning the degree of parallelism an implementation can egectively exploit at the initial andfinal periods of an execution. As for case studies, it deals with two implementations: the Job shop Scheduling problem and the poryblio selection problem. The paper reports the results of a large number of experiments, carried out by means of a transputer network and a hypercube system. They give useful suggestions about selecting the most suitable values of the intervention parameters to achieve su…
Equilibrating Glassy Systems with Parallel Tempering
2001
We discuss the efficiency of the so-called parallel tempering method to equilibrate glassy systems also at low temperatures. The main focus is on two structural glass models, SiO2 and a Lennard-Jones system, but we also investigate a fully connected 10 state Potts-glass. By calculating the mean squared displacement of a tagged particle and the spin-autocorrelation function, we find that for these three glass-formers the parallel tempering method is indeed able to generate, at low temperatures, new independent configurations at a rate which is O(100) times faster than more traditional algorithms, such as molecular dynamics and single spin flip Monte Carlo dynamics. In addition we find that t…
