Dupin cyclide blends between non-natural quadrics of revolution and concrete shape modeling applications

Abstract In this work, we focus on the blending of two quadrics of revolution by two patches of Dupin cyclides. We propose an algorithm for the blending of non-natural quadrics of revolution by decomposing the blending operation into two complementary sub-blendings, each of which is a Dupin cyclide-based blending between one of the two quadrics and a circular cylinder, thus enabling the direct computation of the two Dupin cyclide patches and offering better flexibility for shape composition. Retrained Classification of Tyrosinase Inhibitors and “In Silico” Potency Estimation by Using Atom-Type Linear Indices

In this paper, the authors present an effort to increase the applicability domain (AD) by means of retraining models using a database of 701 great dissimilar molecules presenting anti-tyrosinase activity and 728 drugs with other uses. Atom-based linear indices and best subset linear discriminant analysis (LDA) were used to develop individual classification models. Eighteen individual classification-based QSAR models for the tyrosinase inhibitory activity were obtained with global accuracy varying from 88.15-91.60% in the training set and values of Matthews correlation coefficients (C) varying from 0.76-0.82. Quantumness and speedup limit of a qubit under transition frequency modulation

Controlling and maintaining quantum properties of an open quantum system along its evolution is essential for both fundamental and technological aims. We assess the capability of a frequency-modulated qubit embedded in a leaky cavity to exhibit enhancement of its dynamical quantum features. The qubit transition frequency is sinusoidally modulated by an external driving field. We show that a properly optimized quantum witness effectively identifies quantum coherence protection due to frequency modulation while a standard quantum witness fails. Comparative cytogenetics of human chromosome 3q21.3 reveals a hot spot for ectopic recombination in hominoid evolution

Fluorescence in situ hybridization mapping of fully integrated human BAC clones to primate chromosomes, combined with precise breakpoint localization by PCR analysis of flow-sorted chromosomes, was used to analyze the evolutionary rearrangements of the human 3q21.3-syntenic region in orangutan, siamang gibbon, and silvered-leaf monkey. Three independent evolutionary breakpoints were localized within a 230-kb segment contained in BACs RP11-93K22 and RP11-77P16. Harten's Multiresolution framework has provided a fruitful environment for the development of adaptive codes for hyperbolic PDEs. The so-called cost-effective alternative [4,8,21] seeks to achieve savings in the computational cost of the underlying numerical technique, but not in the overall memory requirements of the code. In 50 normal subjects flow velocity and direction on the portal vein was measured by ultrasonic duplex system. The measurements revealed at a mean diameter of 9.7 mm, a mean flow velocity of 15.2 +/- 2.6 cm/s, corresponding to a volume flow of 693 +/- 235 ml/min. Postprandially this increased to 880 +/- 269 ml/min. Inter-observer and day to day measurements demonstrated good reproducibility. Thus, this simple non-invasive method is well suited for quantitative assessment of the portal vein system in portal hypertension, thrombosis or after shunt operations.

An implicitly parallel EDA based on restricted boltzmann machines

We present a parallel version of RBM-EDA. RBM-EDA is an Estimation of Distribution Algorithm (EDA) that models dependencies between decision variables using a Restricted Boltzmann Machine (RBM). In contrast to other EDAs, RBM-EDA mainly uses matrix-matrix multiplications for model estimation and sampling. Hence, for implementation, standard libraries for linear algebra can be used. This allows an easy parallelization and leads to a high utilization of parallel architectures. The probabilistic model of the parallel version and the version on a single core are identical.
