Reciprocal associations between social competence and language and pre-literacy skills in preschool

The present study examined reciprocal associations between children’s social competence and language and pre-literacy skills across the preschool year. Participants were 441 children (six-year-olds; 212 boys, 229 girls) and their teachers. Teachers rated children’s social competence in the autumn and again in the spring, using the Multisource Assessment of Social Competence Scale (MASCS), which produced sum scores for cooperating skills, empathy, impulsivity and disruptiveness. W polskiej debacie publicznej coraz częściej dochodzi do głosu problem „obowiązkowego" udziału w wyborach politycznych. Wynika to z tego, iż po 1989 roku frekwencja, czyli liczebny udział obywateli w wyborach nie jest zadawalający. Autor postawił sobie w artykule za problem pytanie dotyczące tego, w jaki sposób określa się uczestnictwo w wyborach: bardziej jako „prawo" czy raczej jako „obowiązek” wyborczy. Celem artykułu jest próba odpowiedzi na to pytanie, poprzez wskazanie różnych stanowisk w obrębie historii, politologii, filozofii i teologii.

Weight-loss programs are often based on self-control techniques and they commonly fail in long-term weight management. Identifying psychological processes that explain eating behaviors can help to develop more effective interventions for long-term weight management. This research examined how behavioral and psychological flexibility are related to eating regulation and weight management in overweight adults. Tutkimus tarkastelee savolaisella maaseudulla 1900-luvulla toimineiden pientilallisten eläinsuhdetta ja heidän sosiaalisen ja kulttuurisen kestävyyden kokemuksiaan. Tarkoituksena on selvittää eläinsuhteen merkitystä elämän hallinnan ja mielekkyyden kokemuksessa sekä sitä, millaisista sosiaalisista, kulttuurisista ja taloudellisista edellytyksistä kestävyys koostui ja mitkä tekijät sitä murensivat. Nonclassical correlations in superconducting circuits

A key step on the road map to solid-state quantum information processing (and to a deeper understanding of many counterintuitive aspects of quantum mechanics) is the generation and manipulation of nonclassical correlations between different quantum systems. Within this framework, we analyze the possibility of generating maximally entangled states in a system of two superconducting flux qubits, as well as the effect of their own environments on the entanglement dynamics. The analysis reported here confirms that the phenomena of sudden birth and sudden death of the entanglement do not depend on the particular measure of the entanglement adopted.

The article focuses on the development of ecclesiastical and iconographical vocabulary in the Finnish autonomous Orthodox Church from the 1930s to the 1980s. In 1931, Archbishop Herman launched a project which aimed to find Finnish words for Orthodox objects and concepts. In his opinion the mixed use of Greek and Russian loanwords was too confusing. A questionnaire containing 333 Russian words was sent to clergy and some Orthodox teachers, who were asked to suggest Finnish synonyms for them. The answers reveal on the one hand a variety of new, invented words and on the other hand a reluctant attitude towards the Archbishop’s attentions.
