Determining the number of fibre-fibre contacts in cardboard samples using tomographic imaging

The fibrous network of cardboard samples was studied with the aid of tomographic imaging. For analysing the samples a method of determing the number of contacts between fibres in a planar fibrous network was introduced. The model is based on the fact that deposited paper-like structures tend to have predominantly planar fibre orientation. With this assumption an expression of the mean segment length was derived in terms of the average shortest path along fibres through the sample in the out-of-plane direction. Introduction: Post-apartheid South Africa remains highly stratified on variable grounds including race. The 8.9 percent (whites) of the total population has an average income per capita that is five times higher than that of 79.2 percent (blacks). Socio-economic inequalities are embedded in a ‘culture of consumption’ which includes the availability of goods for sale and the marketization of basic human life experiences including health. Walter Bryce Gallie on artikkelissaan "Essentially Contested Concepts" (Gallie 1955–56) väittänyt, että tietyt käsitteet kuten sosiaalinen oikeudenmukaisuus ja demokratia ovat ”olennaisesti kiisteltyjä”. Tutkin Topeliuksen satujen arvomaailmaa. Sitä on syytä tutkia, sillä siten saadaan selville satujen sanomaa uudesta näkökulmasta ja voidaan pohtia, millä tavalla sadut oikeastaan ovat vaikuttaneet meihin. Olen asettanut tutkimukselleni seuraavat tutkimuskysymykset: 1) Millaisia arvoja satujen maailmankuviin sisältyy? 2) Onko suomennosten ja ruotsinkielisten satujen arvomaailmassa eroja? Music May Reduce Loneliness and Act as Social Surrogate for a Friend: Evidence from an Experimental Listening Study

After losing a close other, individuals usually confide in an empathic friend to receive comfort and they seem to have a heightened desire for mood-congruent, consoling music. Hence, it has been proposed that affect-congruent music acts as a social surrogate for an empathic friend. Thus, we hypothesized that listening to comforting music, as a response to a social loss experience, provides a sense of empathic company as indicated by reduced loneliness and heightened empathy. Application of Ge Nanowire for Two-Input Bistable Nanoelectromechanical Switch

Recently, several research groups presented bistable two-terminal nanoelectromechanical switches based on individual single-clamped active element. All presented devices had one input electrode. Similar devices having two or more input electrodes have not been yet investigated. In this work we present the two-input bistable controlled nanoelectromechanical switch based on an individual single-clamped Ge nanowire. The switch is realised using in-situ SEM technique and operating due to balancing of electrostatic, adhesion and elastic forces. The operation conditions of the device are investigated and presented.
