Effects of isoflurane on the Dnase I activity in an isolated enzyme preparation and on the Dnase I-G actin complex

Effects of isoflurane on the DNase I activity in an isolated enzyme preparation and in the DNase I-globular (G) actin complex were investigated. DNase I, DNase I-G actin complex, and G actin were exposed to various (0.2–4.0 vol%) isoflurane concentrations for 180 min. Thereafter, DNase I activity was determined. DNase I activity was inhibited in relation to time and concentration of isoflurane exposure. At concentrations ranging from 0.2 to 1.0 vol% of isoflurane inactive DNase I was activated in the DNase I-G actin complex. Entropy theory and glass transition: A test by Monte Carlo simulation

This article reviews the results of a test of the Gibbs-DiMarzio theory by Monte Carlo Simulation. The simulation employed the bond-fluctuation model on a simple cubic lattice. This model incorporates two kinds of interactions: the excluded volume interaction among all monomers of the melt and an internal energy of the chains, which favors large bonds and makes the chains stiffen with decreasing temperature. The stiffening of the chains leads to an increase of their volume requirements, which competes with the packing constraints at low temperatures. Influence of gamma-irradiation on thermally-induced mesoscopic gelation of degalactosylated xyloglucans

Thermoresponsive degalactosylated xyloglucans have been already proposed as in situ gelling scaffolds for tissue engineering, due to their reversible macroscopic thermal gelation at body temperature and biodegradability. The highly branched, hydroxyl group-rich molecular structure renders xyloglucans interesting raw materials also in the form of micro/nanoparticles for application as nanoscalar drug delivery devices in cosmetic and pharmaceutical formulations. High energy radiation cure of resin systems for structural adhesives and composite applications

Abstract Radiation cure polymerisation of a commercial diglycidyl ether of bisphenol F epoxy resin has been achieved using a 60Co irradiation source, compounding the monomer with few percentage of an onium salt catalyst. The cure process has been monitored by a gamma-calorimetric technique and systems irradiated at doses corresponding to different positions in the gamma-calorimetric curve have been characterised via solubility tests and dynamic mechanical torsion analysis. Studies of network organization and dynamics of e-beam crosslinked PVPs: From macro to nano

Abstract In this work the influence of poly(N-vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) concentration in water on the organization and dynamics of the corresponding macro-/nanogel networks has been systematically investigated. Irradiation has been performed at the same irradiation dose (within the sterilization dose range) and dose rate. E-beam curing of epoxy based blends in order to produce high performance composites

In this work, blends of a difunctional epoxy monomer and a thermoplastic toughening agent are E-beam irradiated at two different dose rates and two different total absorbed doses. The influence of the processing conditions on the thermal properties and on the morphology of the obtained matrices has been investigated. In particular, it is shown how the increase of the dose rate causes an increase of the temperature during irradiation, thus inducing a simultaneous thermal and radiation curing. This review provides the reader with a general overview on heterogeneous photocatalytic oxidation mechanisms in the presence of TiO2, with a special address to conversion of aliphatic and aromatic organic species. Reactive oxygen species involvement in apoptosis and mitochondrial damage in Caco-2 cells induced by enniatins A, A1, B and B1

The cytotoxic effects, the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and lipid peroxidation (LPO) as well as the cell cycle disruption, the induction of apoptosis and changes in mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨm) as a function of increasing time have been determined in human colorectal adenocarcinoma (Caco-2) cells after exposure to enniatins (ENs) A, A₁, B and B₁. IC₅₀ values obtained by the MTT and Neutral Red assay, after 24, 48 and 72 h of exposure ranged from 0.5±0.1 to >15 μM.
