Cues for a comparison with Robinson Crusoe · The article displays a comparative reading between L’isola di Arturo and Defoe’s Robinson Crusoe, inspired by a statement made by Elsa Morante in a 1957 interview after the awarding of the ‘Strega’ prize. In the first place, the press coverage of the novel is studied with particular attention to confrontations with Robinson. Secondly, I aim to trace the steps of the possibility that Morante actually took into account Defoe’s novel. Sulla scorta di un’analisi della ricezione del romanzo, il presente saggio intende offrire un contributo alla ricerca nell’ambito dell’odierna mediatizzazione della narrazione, riflettendo sulla trasformazione dei generi letterari e sull’annunciata rinascita, in chiave tecnologica, del vecchio romanzo epistolare.

As the preface by publisher Sieglinde Borvitz (pp. 5-15) makes clear, the contributions address their topic using the concept of metabolism as a symbol of the ongoing interaction between the cultural scene and the environment. The cultural studies approach sheds light on the procedural character of phenomena such as mythopoesis, urban regeneration, the dramatization of decay, the ritualization and spectacularization of folklore on the island.

Daniel O'Connell (Cahersiveen 1775 - Genoa 1847), an Irish politician and patriot, fought for Catholic Emancipation, to repeal the penal laws discriminating Irish Catholics and the Act of Union. Believing firmly in non-violence, he defended the representation of Irish Catholics in Parliament as the most appropriate instrument to support their rights.
