Neural Network Techniques for Metal Forming Design

1993

Neural networks are computing structures able to predict the behaviour of a system on the basis of the knowledge of facts; main characteristic of a network is the capability to find a rule in a very complex environment. In the paper a neural network, based on the results of FEM simulations, is utilized to predict the occurrence of defects in a forward extrusion metal forming process. In particular a three layers neural network, relating the operative parameters with the failure or the success of the working process, has been used and the back-propagation algorithm has been employed to train the network. Few experimental data were enough to train the neural network allowing to achieve better…

Dipotassium 4,4'-(hexane-3,4-di-yl)bis-(benzene-sulfonate) dihydrate.

2008

The anion of the title compound, also called sygethin dihydrate, 2K(+)·C(18)H(20)O(6)S(2) (2-)·2H(2)O, has crystallographic inversion symmetry. The K(+) cation is surrounded by eight O atoms in a distorted cubic coordination geometry, forming extended K-O-S networks. There are also O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

A Tutorial on Computational Cluster Analysis with Applications to Pattern Discovery in Microarray Data

2008

Background Inferring cluster structure in microarray datasets is a fundamental task for the so-called -omic sciences. It is also a fundamental question in Statistics, Data Analysis and Classification, in particular with regard to the prediction of the number of clusters in a dataset, usually established via internal validation measures. Despite the wealth of internal measures available in the literature, new ones have been recently proposed, some of them specifically for microarray data. Results We consider five such measures: Clest, Consensus (Consensus Clustering), FOM (Figure of Merit), Gap (Gap Statistics) and ME (Model Explorer), in addition to the classic WCSS (Within Cluster Sum-of-S…

Data mining from a 27-years rotavirus surveillance in Palermo, Italy.

2014

Uninterrupted surveillance conducted in Palermo, Sicily, for 27 years (1985–2012) detected rotavirus infection in 32.7% of 6522 children <5 years of age, hospitalised at the “G. Di Cristina” Children’s Hospital of Palermo. Increased rotavirus activity usually occurred from the beginning of winter to mid-spring. G1P[8] rotaviruses were the prevalent strains in most of the years and were only occasionally overcome by G9P[8], G4P[8] or G2P[4]. The circulation of non-G1P[8] strains was discontinuous and fluctuating. Phylogenetic analyses revealed an heterogeneous population of viruses within each genotype, with different lineages and sublineages emerging over the time. Amino acid substitutions …

Car sequencing versus mixed-model sequencing: A computational study

2014

Abstract The paper deals with the two most important mathematical models for sequencing products on a mixed-model assembly line in order to minimize work overload the mixed-model sequencing (MMS) model and the car sequencing (CS) model. Although both models follow the same underlying objective, only MMS directly addresses the work overload in its objective function. CS instead applies a surrogate objective using so-called sequencing rules which restrict labor-intensive options accompanied with the products in the sequence. The CS model minimizes the number of violations of the respective sequencing rules, which is widely assumed to lead to minimum work overload. This paper experimentally co…

Domain specific language for securities settlement systems

2012

Actual problems during design, implementation and maintenance of securities settlement systems software are achieving complementarity of several different, connected, asynchronously communicating settlement systems and verification of this complementarity. The aim of this paper is to create domain specific language for modeling of settlement systems and their interactions. Then use models to calculate settlement systems behavior. Specific of settlement systems requires that they perform accordingly to business rules in any situation. This makes use of model checking a very desirable step in development process of settlement systems. Defining a domain specific language and creating editor su…

Outlier recognition in crystal-structure least-squares modelling by diagnostic techniques based on leverage analysis.

2005

The identification of the actual outliers in a least-squares crystal-structure model refinement and their subsequent elimination from the data set is a non-trivial task that has to be carried out carefully when a high level of accuracy of the estimates is required. One of the most suitable tools for detecting the influence of each data entry on the regression is the identification of ;leverage points'. On the other hand, the recognition of the actual statistical outliers is effectively possible by using some diagnostics as a function of the leverage, such as Cook's distance, DFFITS and FVARATIO. The evaluation of these estimators makes it possible to achieve a reliable identification of the…

Data Quality Model-based Testing of Information Systems

2020

This paper proposes a model-based testing approach by offering to use the data quality model (DQ-model) instead of the program’s control flow graph as a testing model. The DQ-model contains definitions and conditions for data objects to consider the data object as correct. The study proposes to automatically generate a complete test set (CTS) using a DQmodel that allows all data quality conditions to be tested, resulting in a full coverage of DQ-model. In addition, the possibility to check the conformity of the data to be entered and already stored in the database is ensured. The proposed alternative approach changes the testing process: (1) CTS can be generated prior to software developmen…

Data Quality Model-Based Testing of Information Systems: Two-Level Testing of the Insurance System

2021

In order to develop reliable software, its operating must be verified for all possible cases of use. This can be achieved, at least partly, by means of a model-based testing (MBT), by establishing tests that check all conditions covered by the model. This paper presents a Data Quality Model-based Testing (DQMBT) using the data quality model (DQ-model) as a testing model. The DQ-model contains definitions and conditions for data objects to consider the data object as correct. The proposed testing approach allows complete testing of the conformity of the data to be entered and the data already stored in the database. The data to be entered shall be verified by means of predefined pre-conditio…
