Routing Algorithm for Maximizing Lifetime of Wireless Sensor Network for Broadcast Transmission
2018
In the article we discuss solutions of the maximum lifetime broadcasting problem in wireless sensor networks. Due to limited energy resources of the network nodes to find an optimal transmission route of the broadcasted data we minimize the maximum energy consumed by the nodes. We give an analytical solution of the problem in one dimensional regular sensor network for the point-to-point and point-to-multipoint data transmission scheme. We show that in such a network, when the cost of data transmission is a polynomial function of distance between transmitter and receiver, there exist solutions with an equal energy, i.e., all nodes of the network consume the same amount of energy. We assume t…
Optimal band selection for future satellite sensor dedicated to soil science
2009
Hyperspectral imaging systems could be used for identifying the different soil types from the satellites. However, detecting the reflectance of the soils in all the wavelengths involves the use of a large number of sensors with high accuracy and also creates a problem in transmitting the data to earth stations for processing. The current sensors can reach a bandwidth of 20 nm and hence, the reflectance obtained using the sensors are the integration of reflectance obtained in each of the wavelength present in the spectral band. Moreover, not all spectral bands contribute equally to classification and hence, identifying the bands necessary to have a good classification is necessary to reduce …
Centile estimation for a proportion response variable
2015
This paper introduces two general models for computing centiles when the response variable Y can take values between 0 and 1, inclusive of 0 or 1. The models developed are more flexible alternatives to the beta inflated distribution. The first proposed model employs a flexible four parameter logit skew Student t (logitSST) distribution to model the response variable Y on the unit interval (0, 1), excluding 0 and 1. This model is then extended to the inflated logitSST distribution for Y on the unit interval, including 1. The second model developed in this paper is a generalised Tobit model for Y on the unit interval, including 1. Applying these two models to (1-Y) rather than Y enables model…
Reliability of Data Transmission of UAVs
2018
Drones have been recently an interesting subject of research due to their roles in accomplishing missions. Flying in a formation fleet, they form a cooperative communication system in order to improve the efficiency of the mission. For this reason, the reliability of the communication is essential to guarantee the overall performance of the fleet although the link conditions, the external factors and the hardware failures of a drone. The drones capture several images or videos of the geographical area of the mission and send them to other drones in the fleet or to the Ground Station Control (GSC). The importance is to ensure that all the data transmitted is received. In this article, we aim…
Investigation of data encryption impact on broadcasting visible light communications
2014
EU Cost Action IC1101 T…
AES/FPGA Encryption Module Integration for Satellite Remote Sensing Systems: LST-SW case
2020
Satellite remote sensing embedded systems need to be secure to protect data transmission between satellites and the ground station for any threat can affects the hardware of satellite and interception of data, in addition to unauthorized access to satellite system. This research proposes an approach for a secure integration of FPGA Encryption module based on the iterative looping architecture for remote sensing algorithm and especially for the LST-SW algorithm. The target hardware used in this paper is Virtex-5 XC5VLX50T FPGA from Xilinx. Hardware Description Language was used to design the complete system. The analysis of the proposed designed shows that this implementation can achieved a …
Bluetooth throughput measures for cardiomyocyte extracellular signal telemetry
2006
In this contribution the suitability of the Bluetooth transmission system is analyzed for its application to the realtime transmission of cardiac signals captured by micro-electrode array sensors. The required data rates for this type of cardiac signals are calculated to be 180 kbps for every single micro- electrode. The mean throughput value varies with the selected packet size: for packet sizes less than 1000 bytes the mean throughput is smaller than 180 kbps while for packet sizes greater than 1000 bytes the mean throughput saturates at around 230 kbps. This mean throughput value is guaranteed for over 80% of the time. Compression algorithms running on the sensor array allow the reductio…
Panel Summary: Frontiers of Human-Machine Interaction
2001
The hot points presented to the panel were the following: What are the broader definitions of Human/Machine interaction? For example: non direct connection (using currently available computer GUI) first phase direct connection (linking sensors to the sensory system) second phase (direct connections into the Central Nervous System) What are the technologies that should be developed in order to enable each of the previous phases? What are the scientific research issues that are related to such phases? What are the possible implications of a direct human-computer link on the society? (compared to the Internet revolution?) There are several phases in Human-Machine interaction. The first, and mo…
Implementation of a PLC Field Analyzer on a G3 Modem Platform
2021
Nowadays, power line communications (PLC) are a widely used technology in distribution grids, both for automatic meter reading and automation applications. PLC performances (in terms of capacity, coverage, robustness, and data transmission rate) can be significantly affected by electrical network topologies, connected loads and disturbances. Thus, utilities and modem manufacturers are increasing their interest in electrical network characterization. In this framework, a software tool is proposed in this paper to measure received signal and noise levels. As case study, it is implemented on a G3 PLC transceiver, widely used for smart metering purposes. In this way, a PLC channel characterizat…
Classification of Solutions to the Minimum Energy Problem in One Dimensional Sensor Networks
2016
We classify of the minimum energy problem in one dimensional wireless sensor networks for the data transmission cost matrix which is a power function of the distance between transmitter and receiver with any real exponent. We show, how these solutions can be utilized to solve the minimum energy problem for the data transmission cost matrix which is a linear combination of two power functions. We define the minimum energy problem in terms of the sensors signal power, transmission time and capacities of transmission channels. We prove, that for the point-to-point data transmission method utilized by the sensors in the physical layer, when the transmitter adjust the power of its radio signal t…
