The Performance of Belle II High Level Trigger in the First Physics Run

The Belle II experiment is a new generation B-factory experiment at KEK in Japan aiming at the search for New Physics in a huge sample of B-meson decays. The commissioning of the accelerator and the detector for the first physics run has started from March this year. The Belle II High Level Trigger (HLT) is fully working in the beam run. The HLT is now operated with 1600 cores clusterized in 5 units, which is 1/4 of the full configuration. The software trigger is performed using the same offline reconstruction code, and events are classified into a set of physics categories. Jet transition values for the anti-$$k_{\bot }$$ k⊥ algorithm

We define jet transition values for the anti-$k_{\bot}$ algorithm for both hadron and $e^+e^-$ colliders. We show how these transition values can be computed and how they can be used to improve the performance of clusterization when jet resolution parameters are varied over a larger set of values. Finally we present a simple performance test to illustrate the behavior of the new method compared to the original one.

Construction, Commissioning and First Results of a Highly Granular Hadron Calorimeter with SiPM-on-Tile Read-out

The CALICE collaboration is developing a highly granular Analogue Hadron sampling CALorimeter (AHCAL) for a future electron-positron collider. Very small detection units are required for the AHCAL due to an optimized design for the Particle Flow Algorithm. This is realized with scintillator tiles each wrapped in reflector foil and individually read out by a silicon photomultiplier (SiPM). These scintillator tiles and SiPMs are assembled on readout boards (HCAL Base Unit, HBU) which are integrated later on in the AHCAL detector stack. Measurement of the Pu-242(n,gamma) cross section from thermal to 500 keV at the Budapest research reactor and CERN n_TOF-EAR1 facilities

The design and operation of innovative nuclear systems requires a better knowledge of the capture and fission cross sections of the Pu isotopes. For the case of capture on 242Pu, a reduction of the uncertainty in the fast region down to 8-12% is required. Moreover, aiming at improving the evaluation of the fast energy range in terms of average parameters, the OECD NEA High Priority Request List (HPRL) requests high-resolution capture measurements with improved accuracy below 2 keV. The current uncertainties also affect the thermal point, where previous experiments deviate from each other by 20%. Multiscaling Properties of Large-Scale Structure in the Universe

The large-scale distribution of galaxies and galaxy clusters in the universe can be described in the mathematical language of multifractal sets. A particularly significant aspect of this description is that it furnishes a natural explanation for the observed differences in clustering properties of objects of different density in terms of multiscaling, the generic consequence of the application of a local density threshold to a multifractal set. The multiscaling hypothesis suggests ways of improving upon the traditional statistical measures of clustering pattern (correlation functions) and exploring further the connection between clustering pattern and dynamics.

On a differential system arising in the network control theory

We investigate the three-dimensional dynamical system occurring in the network regulatory systems theory for specific choices of regulatory matrix { { 0, 1, 1 } { 1, 0, 1 } { 1, 1, 0 } } and sigmoidal regulatory function f(z) = 1 / (1 + e-μz), where z = ∑ Wij xj - θ. The description of attracting sets is provided. The attracting sets consist of respectively one, two or three critical points. This depends on whether the parameters (μ,θ) belong to a set Ω or to the complement of Ω or to the boundary of Ω, where Ω is fully defined set.

Development and calibration of the tracking Compton/Pair telescope MEGA

Abstract We describe the development and tests of the prototype for a new telescope for Medium Energy Gamma-ray Astronomy (MEGA) in the energy band 0.4–50 MeV. As a successor to COMPTEL and EGRET (at low energies), MEGA aims to improve the sensitivity for astronomical sources by at least an order of magnitude. It could thus fill the severe sensitivity gap between scheduled or operating hard-X-ray and high-energy gamma-ray missions and open the way for a future Advanced Compton Telescope. Quasi-model-independent search for new physics at large transverse momentum

We apply a quasi-model-independent strategy ("Sleuth") to search for new high p_T physics in approximately 100 pb^-1 of ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV collected by the DZero experiment during 1992-1996 at the Fermilab Tevatron. Over thirty-two e mu X, W+jets-like, Z+jets-like, and 3(lepton/photon)X exclusive final states are systematically analyzed for hints of physics beyond the standard model. Simultaneous sensitivity to a variety of models predicting new phenomena at the electroweak scale is demonstrated by testing the method on a particular signature in each set of final states. No evidence of new high p_T physics is observed in the course of this search, and we find that 89% of …

FlexibleSUSY - a meta spectrum generator for supersymmetric models

FlexibleSUSY is a software package that takes as input descriptions of (non-)minimal supersymmetric models written in Wolfram/Mathematica and generates a set of spectrum generator libraries and executables, with the aid of SARAH. The design goals are precision, reliability, modularity, speed, and readability of the code. The boundary conditions are independent C++ objects that are plugged into the boundary value problem solver together with the model objects. This clean separation makes it easy to adapt the generated code for individual projects. The current status of the interface and implementation is sketched.
