¿Cómo diseñar una secuencia de enseñanza de ciencias con una orientación socioconstructivista?
2009
Abstract This conference aims to show how the results of research in science teaching can be used by teachers in the design and development of a sequence of learning from a socio-constructivist view. Based on the training needs of the teacher to successfully face the challenges of teaching, teachers have to develop four skills in the design of a teaching sequence: the history and epistemology of the concepts and theories taught and, in particular, major problems in its construction; namely the sequencing of objectives and appropriate content to the student's psychological problems, in the form of interest; determine the specific knowledge and skills students should acquire in relation to th…
Koncepcja urban resilience : narzędzie strategicznej diagnozy i monitoringu miast
2015
Tool-life modelling as a stochastic process
1998
Abstract In a previous paper [G. Galante, A. Lombardo, A. Passannanti, Proceedings of XXXVII Scientific Meeting of the Italian Statistical Society, 1994, p. 553] the Authors proposed to model cutting tool wear behaviour as a stochastic process with independent Gaussian increments plus drift. Such a model implies that the tool-life, i.e. the time to reach a fixed value of flank wear, has an inverse Gaussian probability distribution. The model has several practical and theoretical advantages. In fact, it is based on an easily and cheaply experimentally verifiable wear behaviour hypothesis, it is more flexible because it is not limited to a particular wear level and, finally, the data are bett…
Conceptual knowledge‐based strategy training in single‐digit calculation: a single case intervention study in a child with specific language impairme…
2009
The aim of this single‐case intervention study was to examine whether a conceptual knowledge‐based strategy training would improve the accuracy of single‐digit arithmetical calculation in a child with specific language impairment. The intervention concerned an11‐year‐old Finnish‐speaking child with specific language impairment. He was trained individually once a week for three months. On the basis of his baseline performance single‐digit arithmetical problems were divided into ‘well‐known arithmetical problems’ and ‘error‐prone arithmetical problems’. Error‐prone problems were taught in meaningful relation to well‐known problems, which he repeatedly solved correctly by using arithmetical fa…
PARETO OR LOG-NORMAL? BEST FIT AND TRUNCATION IN THE DISTRIBUTION OF ALL CITIES*
2015
In the literature, the distribution of city size is a controversial issue with two common contenders: the Pareto and the log-normal. While the first is most accredited when the distribution is truncated above a certain threshold, the latter is usually considered a better representation for the untruncated distribution of all cities. In this paper, we reassess the empirical evidence on the best-fitting distribution in relation to the truncation point issue. Specifically, we provide a comparison among four recently proposed approaches and alternative definitions of U.S. cities. Our results highlight the importance to look at issue of the best-fitting distribution together with the truncation …
Ecological Networks and Planning
2017
This chapter focuses on the regulation issue of the ecological networks/connections within planning instruments. In effect, the paradigm of ecological networks can be adopted within planning instruments to bridge the split existing in current development patterns between the use of the land and conservation of nature. About this issue, the work clearly explains the critical aspects, also referring to different ecological network models and specific local realities. In relation to this perspective, the most commonly adopted approach for the introduction of ecological networks into the planning process is the ecosystemic approach which, when applied to territory planning, shows it is particul…
Urban layout, landscape features and pedestrian usage
2007
ACL; International audience; The analysis of the factors which condition walking in the urban environment is an important issue in urban planning. The present work is based on the hypothesis that the landscape, in its entirety, plays a role in encouraging pedestrian movements. The frequency of pedestrian traffic in the streets is analyzed as a function of accessibility and landscape preferences with the help of a conceptual framework. By defining accessibility as the measurement of the integration of the space syntax, preferences are researched using multiple stepwise regression of visual variables. This method has been applied to an area in the city of Lille (France) where the pedestrian f…
Comparison of problem solving tools in lean organizations
2017
As global market competition is getting fiercer, and companies are looking at ways to stay on top, more and more organizations are looking at Lean Manufacturing and lean tools to support them in achieving their goals. Especially within the automotive industry, lean practices are very well received. The speed at which the automotive industry is evolving, especially but not only, in countries like Romania, leads to the need to carefully analyze lean manufacturing concepts, examine them against local production conditions, and to develop and standardize them. One of the most important things to take into consideration here is the application of an adequate problem solving technique to avoid wa…
The RAMON module: architecture framework and performance results
2003
A design study of a Re-configurable Access Module for Mobile Computing Applications is described. After a presentation of its cross-layered architecture, Control Parameters (CPs) of the module are introduced. The set of CPs both describes the functional state of the communication process in relation to the time-varying transport facilities and provides, as input of suitable Algorithms, the control information to re-configure the whole protocol stack for facing modified working conditions. The paper also presents the structure of the simulator realized to demonstrate the feasibility of the design guidelines and to evaluate reconfigurability performances.

The ongoing digitalization of educational resources and the use of the internet lead to a steady increase of potentially available learning media. However, many of the media which are used for educational purposes have not been designed specifically for teaching and learning. Usually, linguistic criteria of readability and comprehensibility as well as content-related criteria are used independently to assess and compare the quality of educational media. This also holds true for educational media used in economics. This article aims to improve the analysis of textual learning media used in economic education by drawing on threshold concepts. Threshold concepts are key terms in knowledge acqu…
