Integration of Spatial Technologies and Semantic Web Technologies for Industrial Archaeology
2010
International audience; We propose a method that uses the advancement in spatial technologies from current database systems within the Semantic Web Technologies in order to enrich and to populate the knowledge of a domain defined in an OWL-DL ontology. The results of spatial operations and functions are used to populate and to enrich ontologies with new individuals and new relationships. The advantage of spatial analysis within Semantic Web technologies is the diversity of the functionalities provided by the combination of spatial operations and the rule language of the Semantic Web (SWRL). This method is applied in the industrial archaeology domain in order to enhance the knowledge managem…
ArchaeoKM: Realizing Knowledge of the Archaeologists
2010
The potentiality of ontology within the faculty of archaeology has recently been felt. However, the use of ontology is limited either within the data interoperability for data sharing within various heterogeneous platforms or data integration of heterogeneous dataset. Thus the full potentiality of ontology is still to be realized within the community of archaeology. We are developing a system "ArchaeoKM" which uses ontology beyond data integration. It uses the strength of ontology to reason the knowledge presented within. Additionally, ArchaeoKM involves archaeologists to define their knowledge of an excavation site through domain rules which they define through the descriptions and observa…
Graphe-Based Rules For XML Data Conversion to OWL Ontology
2010
International audience; The paper presents a flexible method to enrich and populate an existing OWL ontology from XML data based on graph-based rules. These rules are defined in order to populate automatically a new version of an OWL ontology. Today, most of data exchanged between information systems is done with the help of the XML document. Leading researches in the domain of database systems are moving to semantic model in order to store data and its semantics definition. This flexible method consists in populating an existing OWL ontology from XML data. In paper we present such a method based on the definition of a graph which represents rules that drive the populating process.
Architectural Reconstruction of 3D Building Objects through Semantic Knowledge Management
2010
International audience; This paper presents an ongoing research which aims at combining geometrical analysis of point clouds and semantic rules to detect 3D building objects. Firstly by applying a previous semantic formalization investigation, we propose a classification of related knowledge as definition, partial knowledge and ambiguous knowledge to facilitate the understanding and design. Secondly an empirical implementation is conducted on a simplified building prototype complying with the IFC standard. The generation of empirical knowledge rules is revealed and semantic scopes are addressed both in the bottom up manner along the line of geometry --> topology --> semantic, and a vice ver…
Access and Annotation of Archaeological Corpus via a Semantic Wiki
2010
Semantic wikis have shown their ability to allow knowledge management and collaborative authoring. They are particularly appropriate for scientific collaboration. This paper details the main concepts and the architecture of WikiBridge, a semantic wiki, and its application in the archaelogical domain. Archaeologists primarily have a document-centric work. Adding meta-information in the form of annotations has proved useful to enhance search. WikiBridge combines models and ontologies to increase data consistency within the wiki. Moreover, it allows several types of annotations: simple annotations, n-ary relations and recursive annotations. The consistency of these annotations is checked synch…
Propose Semantic Formalization for 3D Reconstruction of Architectural
2010
International audience; Archi3D project is a successful practice well proved by engineering practices. In this paper, we propose to reconstruct semantics for the purpose of reconstruct 3D architecture in Archi3D fundamentally. The formalization approach starts from several hypotheses on semantics which include: there is a core mechanism of semantics which is not limited to conceptual expression level; and a complete expression of semantics necessaries the ―implicitexplicit‖ transition of human side knowledge, etc. The necessity and feasibility concerning applying the proposed method and technology to the practice of Archi3D is discussed systemically by way of semantics revelations on some …
Information indexing and recommendation : toward a precise description if items by an ontological approach based on business domain modeling : applic…
2015
Effective management of large amounts of information has become a challenge increasinglyimportant for information systems. Everyday, new information sources emerge on the web. Someonecan easily find what he wants if (s)he seeks an article, a video or a specific artist. However,it becomes quite difficult, even impossible, to have an exploratory approach to discover newcontent. Recommender systems are software tools that aim to assist humans to deal withinformation overload. The work presented in this Phd thesis proposes an architecture for efficientrecommendation of news. In this document, we propose an architecture for efficient recommendationof news articles. Our ontological approach relie…
Adding Semantic Extension to Wikis for Enhancing Cultural Heritage Applications
2011
International audience; Wikis are appropriate systems for community-authored content. In the past few years, they show that are particularly suitable for collaborative works in cultural heritage. In this paper, we highlight how wikis can be relevant solutions for building cooperative applications in domains characterized by a rapid evolution of knowledge. We will point out the capabilities of semantic extension to provide better quality of content, to improve searching, to support complex queries and finally to carry out di fferent type of users. We describe the CARE project and explain the conceptual modeling approach. We detail the architecture of WikiBridge, a semantic wiki which allows …
Query-preserving watermarking of relational databases and XML documents
2011
Watermarking allows robust and unobtrusive insertion of information in a digital document. During the last few years, techniques have been proposed for watermarking relational databases or Xml documents, where information insertion must preserve a specific measure on data (for example the mean and variance of numerical attributes). In this article we investigate the problem of watermarking databases or Xml while preserving a set of parametric queries in a specified language, up to an acceptable distortion. We first show that unrestricted databases can not be watermarked while preserving trivial parametric queries. We then exhibit query languages and classes of structures that allow guarante…
HiGeoMes: Distributed Geodatabases in an archaeological joint research project
2013
International audience; The project 'HiGeoMes' seeks to connect knowledge about archaeological sites in the Near East with place names in ancient sources of the 2nd millennium BC. The paper describes the digital approach to integrate textual and geographical information by emphasizing the impact of interfaces linking diverse datasets. Several OGC-based Web services provide reviewed archaeological information in a Web GIS with query capabilities. Place-related philological data are stored in an OWL-store to model the topological relations of unidentified sites. An interface integrates a graph-viewer with the Web GIS by invoking both WFS- and REST-services to spatially integrate the datasets.…
