Analysis of the Aggregate Financial Behaviour of Customers Using the Transtheoretical Model of Change
2014
Abstract The authors addressed the problem of aggregate financial behaviour of customers by using the transtheoretical model of change. Aggregate financial behaviour of customers was studied by analyzing payment cards, private pension savings and mortgage loans. The transheoretical model of change was chosen as a theoretical framework for the analysis. Conclusions are based on results of regression analysis of empirical evidence of customers’ financial behaviour relation to the given products during the time period 2001-2013 in Latvia and further logical inferences by authors, which are consistent with the chosen theoretical framework of the transtheoretical model of change
Contract and Asset Values in Venture Capital Financings
2009
In venture capital financings a venture capitalist buys some fraction of a company, for a stated amount of money, through preferred shares. It is common practice in empirical and theoretical analyses to infer from this transaction a value for the entire company, which we call the contract value. Owners do not hold shares with the same rights and so the contract value misrepresents the company value of all assets (asset value). This paper studies a stylized venture capital market, calculates the ratio of contract to asset value, and derives the expected returns both at the level of venture capital funds and at the company level. We study quantitatively the impact on econometric analyses and …
Groups with few $p'$-character degrees
2019
Abstract We prove a variation of Thompson's Theorem. Namely, if the first column of the character table of a finite group G contains only two distinct values not divisible by a given prime number p > 3 , then O p p ′ p p ′ ( G ) = 1 . This is done by using the classification of finite simple groups.
A question from the Kourovka Notebook on formation products
2003
[EN] It is shown in this paper that if X is a class of simple groups such that pi(X) = char X, the X-saturated formation H generated by a finite group cannot be expressed as the Gaschütz product F o G of two non-X-saturated formations if H = G. It answers some open questions on products of formations. The relation between omega-saturated and X-saturated formations is also discussed.
A two-armed bandit collective for hierarchical examplar based mining of frequent itemsets with applications to intrusion detection
2014
Published version of a chapter in the book: Transactions on Computational Collective Intelligence XIV. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-662-44509-9_1 In this paper we address the above problem by posing frequent item-set mining as a collection of interrelated two-armed bandit problems. We seek to find itemsets that frequently appear as subsets in a stream of itemsets, with the frequency being constrained to support granularity requirements. Starting from a randomly or manually selected examplar itemset, a collective of Tsetlin automata based two-armed bandit players - one automaton for each item in the examplar - learns which items should be included in …
Adaptīva lietotāja saskarne adrešu un plānotāja grāmatas Android lietotnes kontekstā
2019
Network Positions and the Probability of Being Acquired: An Empirical Analysis in the Biopharmaceutical Industry
2016
This paper examines the relationship between the firm's direct ties, its inter-firm network prominence and its likelihood of being acquired. The authors argue that firm's direct ties and prominence enhance the firm's visibility and signal its quality – and thus foster the firm's likelihood of being acquired. However, higher levels of direct ties and prominence, by providing access to resources and the firm's status, respectively, increase the firm's ability to remain independent and thus reduce its likelihood of being acquired. Thus, the authors posit the overall relation as an inverted U-shaped. Furthermore, they show that, for firms that undergo an initial public offering, the aforementio…
Evaluating the Hypoxia Response of Ruffe and Flounder Gills by a Combined Proteome and Transcriptome Approach
2015
Hypoxia has gained ecological importance during the last decades, and it is the most dramatically increasing environmental factor in coastal areas and estuaries. The gills of fish are the prime target of hypoxia and other stresses. Here we have studied the impact of the exposure to hypoxia (1.5 mg O2/l for 48 h) on the protein expression of the gills of two estuarine fish species, the ruffe (Gymnocephalus cernua) and the European flounder (Platichthys flesus). First, we obtained the transcriptomes of mixed tissues (gills, heart and brain) from both species by Illumina next-generation sequencing. Then, the gill proteomes were investigated using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and mass sp…
The peach volatilome modularity is reflected at the genetic and environmental response levels in a QTL mapping population
2014
Background: The improvement of fruit aroma is currently one of the most sought-after objectives in peach breeding programs. To better characterize and assess the genetic potential for increasing aroma quality by breeding, a quantity trait locus (QTL) analysis approach was carried out in an F-1 population segregating largely for fruit traits. Results: Linkage maps were constructed using the IPSC peach 9 K Infinium (R) II array, rendering dense genetic maps, except in the case of certain chromosomes, probably due to identity-by-descent of those chromosomes in the parental genotypes. The variability in compounds associated with aroma was analyzed by a metabolomic approach based on GC-MS to pro…
Flexibility, Segmentation and Use of Labour in Finnish Retail Trade
1990
The purpose of the study is to analyse the effects of management strategies on the segmentation of five department store labour markets in Finland. (1) The competitive strategies of firms are expected to have different con sequences for the use of labour (2) Within firms, the differentiated use of labour is examined in relation to the use of different flexibility strategies In department stores the most important strategy for obtaining (numerical) flexibility has been the fast growth of part-time work.
