Comparison of Epithor clinical national database and medico-administrative database to identify the influence of case-mix on the estimation of hospit…
2019
BackgroundThe national Epithor database was initiated in 2003 in France. Fifteen years on, a quality assessment of the recorded data seemed necessary. This study examines the completeness of the data recorded in Epithor through a comparison with the French PMSI database, which is the national medico-administrative reference database. The aim of this study was to demonstrate the influence of data quality with respect to identifying 30-day mortality hospital outliers.MethodsWe used each hospital's individual FINESS code to compare the number of pulmonary resections and deaths recorded in Epithor to the figures found in the PMSI. Centers were classified into either the good-quality data (GQD) …
Discrimination of retinal images containing bright lesions using sparse coded features and SVM
2015
Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is a chronic progressive disease of the retinal microvasculature which is among the major causes of vision loss in the world. The diagnosis of DR is based on the detection of retinal lesions such as microaneurysms, exudates and drusen in retinal images acquired by a fundus camera. However, bright lesions such as exudates and drusen share similar appearances while being signs of different diseases. Therefore, discriminating between different types of lesions is of interest for improving screening performances. In this paper, we propose to use sparse coding techniques for retinal images classification. In particular, we are interested in discriminating between retina…
QTc Time Correlates with Amitriptyline and Venlafaxine Serum Levels in Elderly Psychiatric Inpatients
2018
Abstract Introduction Many antidepressants cause QT prolongation but the classification of cardiac risk of these drugs varies markedly in different published lists. This retrospective study analyzed the correlation of QTc time with amitriptyline and venlafaxine serum level in elderly psychiatric inpatients. Methods Elderly inpatients aged≥65 years for whom venlafaxine or amitriptyline serum level had been measured were selected retrospectively from a therapeutic drug monitoring database and screened for an electrocardiogram measurement at the time of blood withdrawal. The correlation of amitriptyline or venlafaxine serum levels with QTc time was examined by using Pearson’s correlation analy…

Effectiveness of dapagliflozin versus comparators on renal endpoints in the real world: A multicentre retrospective study.
2019
Aim: To evaluate the changes in renal endpoints in type 2 diabetes patients treated with dapagliflozin versus other glucose-lowering medications in routine clinical practice. Materials and Methods: DARWIN-T2D was a retrospective study conducted at 46 outpatient diabetes clinics in Italy. An automated software collected data on 17 285 patients who received dapagliflozin, glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists, dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors, or gliclazide, 6751 of whom had a follow-up visit. We analysed changes in albumin excretion rate (AER) and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). Results: Patients who received dapagliflozin (n = 473) were younger, more obese, and had a poore…
Childhood central nervous system tumours – incidence and survival in Europe (1978–1997): Report from Automated Childhood Cancer Information System pr…
2006
Abstract This paper describes the incidence and survival of childhood central nervous system (CNS) tumours in Europe for the period 1978–1997. A total of 19,531 cases, aged 0–14 years, from the ACCIS database were analysed by five regions: the British Isles, East, North, South, and West. Overall age-standardised incidence rate (ASR) of CNS tumours in Europe (1988–1997) was 29.9 per million, with the highest rates in the North. Astrocytoma (ASR = 11.8), primitive neuroectodermal tumours (PNET) (ASR = 6.5) and ependymoma (ASR = 3.4) were the most frequent types. Incidence increased significantly during 1978–1997, on average by 1.7% per year. Diagnostic methods may partially explain incidence …
Functional Metagenomics of the Bronchial Microbiome in COPD

The aim of this study was to analyse the composition and the gene content of the microbial community in bronchial secretions of COPD patients in both stability and exacerbati…
A method for automatic forensic facial reconstruction based on dense statistics of soft tissue thickness.
2019
In this paper, we present a method for automated estimation of a human face given a skull remain. The proposed method is based on three statistical models. A volumetric (tetrahedral) skull model encoding the variations of different skulls, a surface head model encoding the head variations, and a dense statistic of facial soft tissue thickness (FSTT). All data are automatically derived from computed tomography (CT) head scans and optical face scans. In order to obtain a proper dense FSTT statistic, we register a skull model to each skull extracted from a CT scan and determine the FSTT value for each vertex of the skull model towards the associated extracted skin surface. The FSTT values at p…
Deep Learning for fully automatic detection, segmentation, and Gleason Grade estimation of prostate cancer in multiparametric Magnetic Resonance Imag…
2021
The emergence of multi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) has had a profound impact on the diagnosis of prostate cancers (PCa), which is the most prevalent malignancy in males in the western world, enabling a better selection of patients for confirmation biopsy. However, analyzing these images is complex even for experts, hence opening an opportunity for computer-aided diagnosis systems to seize. This paper proposes a fully automatic system based on Deep Learning that takes a prostate mpMRI from a PCa-suspect patient and, by leveraging the Retina U-Net detection framework, locates PCa lesions, segments them, and predicts their most likely Gleason grade group (GGG). It uses 490 mp…
Online reference database of European Y-chromosomal short tandem repeat (STR) haplotypes
2001
The reference database of highly informative Y-chromosomal short tandem repeat (STR) haplotypes (YHRD), available online at http://ystr.charite.de, represents the largest collection of male-specific genetic profiles currently available for European populations. By September 2000, YHRD contained 4688 9-locus (so-called "minimal") haplotypes, 40% of which have been extended further to include two additional loci. Establishment of YHRD has been facilitated by the joint efforts of 31 forensic and anthropological institutions. All contributing laboratories have agreed to standardize their Y-STR haplotyping protocols and to participate in a quality assurance exercise prior to the inclusion of any…
