New chiral α-aminophosphine oxides and sulfides: an unprecedented rhodium-catalyzed ligand epimerization

International audience; New chiral α-aminophosphine oxide N,P(O) and sulfide N,P(S) ligands have been prepared in one-pot syntheses by addition of Ph2PH to (S)-PhCH[double bond, length half m-dash]NCH(Ph)CH3, followed by oxidation with O2 or S8. Crystallization from cold methanol leads to the isolation of an enantiomerically pure single N,P(O) diastereomer and to a 1 : 1 mixture of the two N,P(S) diastereomers. NiO diluted in high surface area TiO2 as efficient catalysts for the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane

[EN] Catalysts consisting of NiO diluted in high surface area TiO2 can be as efficient in the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane as the most selective NiO-promoted catalysts reported previously in the literature. By selecting the titania matrix and the NiO loading, yields to ethylene over 40% have been obtained. In the present article, three different titanium oxides (TiO2) have been employed as supports or diluters of nickel oxide and have been tested in the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane to ethylene. Abstract We report the results of in vivo studies in Caenorhabditis elegans nematodes in which addition of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) to their diet significantly increased their life span with respect to the control group. Furthermore, when nematodes were exposed to the pesticide paraquat, they started to die after two days, but after the addition of EVOO to their diet, both survival percentage and lifespans of paraquat-exposed nematodes increased. Mitochondrial glutathione depletion by glutamine in growing tumor cells.

The effect of L-glutamine (Gln) on mitochondrial glutathione (mtGSH) levels in tumor cells was studied in vivo in Ehrlich ascites tumor (EAT)-bearing mice. Tumor growth was similar in mice fed a Gln-enriched diet (GED; where 30% of the total dietary nitrogen was from Gln) or a nutritionally complete elemental diet (SD). As compared with non-tumor-bearing mice, tumor growth caused a decrease of blood Gln levels in mice fed an SD but not in those fed a GED. Tumor cells in mice fed a GED showed higher glutaminase and lower Gln synthetase activities than did cells isolated from mice fed an SD.
