Decay properties of265Sg(Z=106)and266Sg(Z=106)

The presently known most neutron-rich isotopes of element 106 (seaborgium, Sg), {sup 265}Sg and {sup 266}Sg, were produced in the fusion reaction {sup 22}Ne+{sup 248}Cm at beam energies of 121 and 123 MeV. Using the On-Line Gas chemistry Apparatus OLGA, a continuous separation of Sg was achieved within a few seconds. Final products were assayed by {alpha}-particle and spontaneous fission (SF) spectrometry. {sup 265}Sg and {sup 266}Sg were identified by observing time correlated {alpha}-{alpha}-({alpha}) and {alpha}-SF decay chains. Decays of theY97isomers to the single neutron nucleusZr97

The decays of the 9/2(+) and of the three-quasiparticle high spin isomer in Y-97 have been investigated following on-line mass separation with the ion-guide technique. Spins and parities for several of the lowest-lying levels in the daughter nucleus Zr-97 are revised and configurations are proposed. In particular, the 2264 keV level is identified as the h(11/2) single-neutron level. The population of a cascade on top of the h(11/2) level provides evidence for Gamow-Teller beta decay of the high-spin Y-97 isomer. Levels and transition rates are qualitatively well reproduced by regarding Zr-97 as a single-neutron nucleus with respect to the doubly closed Zr-96 core.

βdecay of the5+isomer of the odd-odd nucleus100Nb

The decay of the $3s$ isomer of ${}^{100}\mathrm{Nb}$ has been investigated by $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ spectroscopy of online mass separated ${}^{100}\mathrm{Nb}.$ Several new transitions in the daughter nucleus ${}^{100}\mathrm{Mo}$ have been observed. This results in a more consistent decay pattern leading to a firm ${5}^{+}$ assignment to the ${}^{100}\mathrm{Nb}$ isomer. A QRPA based calculation reproduces the decay features best if the $\ensuremath{\pi}{g}_{9/2}\ensuremath{-}\ensuremath{\pi}{p}_{1/2}$ gap is enlarged, confirming the importance of the subshell gap at $Z=40$ previously introduced to account for low-lying ${0}^{+}$ states in other $N=58$ isotones.

Excited states in 31S studied via beta decay of 31Cl

2006

The beta decay of 31Cl has been studied with a silicon detector array and a HPGe detector at the IGISOL facility. Previously controversial proton peaks have been confirmed to belong to 31Cl and a new proton group with an energy of 762(14) keV has been found. Proton captures to this state at 6921(15) keV in 31S can have an effect on the reaction rate of 30P(p,γ) in ONe novae. Gamma rays of 1249.1(14) keV and 2234.5(8) keV corresponding to the de-excitations of the first two excited states in 31S have been measured. No beta-delayed protons from the IAS have been observed. peerReviewed

Systematics of the α-decay to rotational states

We analyze \ensuremath{\alpha} decays to rotational states in even-even nuclei by using the stationary coupled channels approach. Collective excitations are described by the rigid rotator model. The \ensuremath{\alpha}-nucleus interaction is given by a double folding procedure using M3Y plus Coulomb nucleon-nucleon forces. We use a harmonic oscillator repulsive potential with one independent parameter, to simulate the Pauli principle. The decaying state is identified with the first resonance inside the resulting pocketlike potential. First observation of excited states of173Hg

The neutron-deficient nucleus 173Hg has been studied following fusion-evaporation reactions. The observation of gamma rays decaying from excited states are reported for the first time and a tentative level scheme is proposed. The proposed level scheme is discussed within the context of the systematics of neighbouring neutron-deficient Hg nuclei. In addition to the gamma-ray spectroscopy, the alpha decay of this nucleus has been measured yielding superior precision to earlier measurements.

Signatures of oblate deformation in the ^{111}Tc nucleus

Monoisotopic samples of exotic, neutron-rich ${}^{111}$Mo nuclei, produced in the deuteron-induced fission of ${}^{238}$U and separated using the IGISOL3 isotope separator, coupled to the JYFLTRAP Penning trap, were used to perform $\ensuremath{\beta}$- and $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-coincidence spectroscopy of ${}^{111}$Tc. New excited levels in ${}^{111}$Tc populated in ${\ensuremath{\beta}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ decay of ${}^{111}$Mo provide the first indication for an oblate deformation in the mass $A\ensuremath{\approx}110$ region.
