Protection of the surviving spouse in French law

2021

While French inheritance law has recently sought to give everyone more freedom to anticipate the transmission of their estate, it still guarantees to the children a reserved portion in his estate. This guarantees the deceased?s children a minimum share in his/her estate. However, the mechanisms protecting this reserve are subject to legal adjustments when spouses wish to organize the protection of the couple?s survivor, either by submitting to a conventional matrimonial regime or by giving themselves gifts that improve the legal succession of the spouse. This ensures a balance between the protection of the spouse and that of the compulsory heirs. Not seeming to be satisfied, several famous …

Un cuento de robots : La hija cibernética de descartes

2021

French philosopher René Descartes is today valued as a forerunner of the studies of human mind, artificial intelligence and robotic systems. Throughout his work there are large references to automata and the possibility of artificial life, as well as an assessment of the differences between rational behavior of human beings and the purely mechanical of animals and automata. In addition to these references, there is a fable about the creation by the philosopher of an automaton that replicated his deceased daughter Francine, a story that is well known among the French and Anglo-Saxon specialists, but not so much in the Spanish ones, which is what settles this short work

Incidence of liver retransplantation and its effect on patient survival.

2008

Purpose. The purpose of this study was to review our institutional experience with re-liver transplantation (OLT) after split and full-size OLT. Patients and methods. We evaluated data corresponding to retransplanted patients over an 8-year period who underwent deceased donor OLT at our institution. Variables analyzed included indications for primary OLT, and re-OLT, the type of graft used during the initial versus re-OLT, the time from initial to re-OLT, and patient survival after re-OLT. Results. Sixty-four of 697 first OLT (9.2%) required re-OLT. Forty-nine cases were among 637 (7.6%) full-size OLT, while 15 were among 60 (25%) split OLT (P <.001). Median time to re-OLT was 8 days (range…

Eurotransplant special request for high-urgency status after liver transplantation for hepatocellular carcinoma: a case report.

2008

Hepatic artery thrombosis after liver transplantation remains a major indication for retransplantation. We report the case of a 49-year-old man with a hepatocellular carcinoma in the setting of cirrhosis associated with chronic hepatitis B and C infections who underwent split liver transplantation. The patient experienced a complicated postoperative course, characterized by 2 relaparotomies for necrosis of segment IV, and a late hepatic artery thrombosis, first discovered on postoperative day 20. His subsequent course was characterized by relapsing cholangitis and liver abscesses requiring antibiotics and percutaneous drainage. Transient control of the septic complications allowed for the f…

Immagini fuori posto. Nodi e intrecci iconografici

2019

The essay summarizes a field research work started in 1998 in Calamonaci (AG). Through the discovery of the diversity and alterity of the endotic, between the known and the familiar, continuously discovered and enriched, the author develops a careful analysis of family images that become the premise and purpose of the research. This field research involved about 300 families and then became a photographic exhibition, with a catalog, experienced, shared and participated by the community. In this work, the author has adopted a participatory research method trying to understand how the photographic image, almost always thought of as the referent of the reality represented, with each new vision…

The necropolis of Orriols (Valencia): examples of funerary ritual in the Roman age (2nd – 4th centuries AD)

2016

The necropolis of Orriols (Valencia) stands on a small hill a bit more elevated than the Via Augusta. It is a suburban cemetery that was used between the 2nd and…

Should kidney allografts from old donors be allocated only to old recipients?

2020

Contains fulltext : 226016.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) In several deceased donor kidney allocation systems, organs from elderly donors are allocated primarily to elderly recipients. The Eurotransplant Senior Program (ESP) was implemented in 1999, and since then, especially in Europe, the use of organs from elderly donors has steadily increased. The proportion of ≥60-year-old donors reported to the Collaborative Transplant Study (CTS) by European centers has doubled, from 21% in 2000-2001 to 42% in 2016-2017. Therefore, in the era of organ shortage it is a matter of debate whether kidney organs from elderly donors should only be allocated to elderly recipients or whether <65-y…
