In this paper a new intelligent system designed to support the researcher in the development of a workflow for bio informatics experiments is presented. The proposed system is capable to suggest one or more strategies in order to resolve the selected problem and to support the user in the assembly of a workflow for complex experiments, using a a Knowledge base, representing the expertise about the application domain, and a Rule-Based system for decision-making activity. Intelligent Advisor Agents in Distributed Environments

The chapter presents a Distributed Expert System based on a multi-agent-architecture. The system is composed of a community of intelligent conversational agents playing the role of specialized advisors for the government of a virtual town, inspired to the SimCity game. The agents are capable to handle strategic decision under uncertainty conditions. They interact in natural language with their owners, obtain information on the current status of the town and give suggestions about the best strategies to apply in order to govern the town. © 2010 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

The identification of new useful patterns in data is a core process for intelligent systems. Information overflow is directly related to this problem. In this work we propose a knowledge discovery methodology to retrieve useful and novel information from raw data stored in a DBMS. In Waste Water Treatment Plants (WWTPs), the pump systems are one of the most energy intensive processes. An efficient energy management of pumps should produce environmental and economic benefits. In this paper, we propose a daily data-driven approach for a detailed pump efficiency analysis that reduces the time gap between an inefficiency and its detection, provides detailed information for decision making by using new Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and detects inefficient pump set-ups and designs. Abstract We are interested in the personnel selection problem. We have developed a flexible decision support system to help managers in their decision-making functions. This DSS simulates experts’ evaluations using ordered weighted average (OWA) aggregation operators, which assign different weights to different selection criteria. Moreover, we show an aggregation model based on efficiency analysis to put the candidates into an order.
Applying Cathegorical Metrics on Fuzzy Systems

This work analyzes the categorical metrics usage on a very specific subset of Intelligent Systems: Fuzzy Systems. Several characteristics for such systems must be carefully evaluated when metrics and indicators are defined, in order to consider the fuzzy essence as part of the evaluation result. A set of metrics and indicators are defined and applied to the classical inverted pendulum problem. The paper does not intend to provide an exhaustive analysis of the quality evaluation on soft computing problem. It just presents a way to start the study of quality measure in that area.
