Synthesis, Characterization and Magnetic Properties of New Dinuclear Copper(II) Complexes with N,N′-Disubstituted Dithiooxamides derived from α-Amino…

2005

Four new dinuclear copper(II) complexes have been synthesized and have the general formula [Cu2(L)(H2O)2], where L = GLYDTO [N,N′-bis(carboxymethyl)dithiooxamide], ALADTO [N,N′-bis(carboxyethyl)dithiooxamide], VALDTO [N,N′-bis(1-carboxy-2-methylpropyl)dithiooxamide] and LEUDTO [N,N′-bis(1-carboxy-3-methylbutyl)dithiooxamide]. The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis as well as by IR, electronic and EPR spectroscopy. These techniques provided evidence for the presence of the CuNO2S chromophore. Magnetic susceptibility measurements on all the complexes in the range 4–300 K show the existence of a dominant antiferromagnetic interaction with −J values greater than 300 cm−1. Therma…

Fast Approximated Discriminative Common Vectors Using Rank-One SVD Updates

2013

An efficient incremental approach to the discriminative common vector (DCV) method for dimensionality reduction and classification is presented. The proposal consists of a rank-one update along with an adaptive restriction on the rank of the null space which leads to an approximate but convenient solution. The algorithm can be implemented very efficiently in terms of matrix operations and space complexity, which enables its use in large-scale dynamic application domains. Deep comparative experimentation using publicly available high dimensional image datasets has been carried out in order to properly assess the proposed algorithm against several recent incremental formulations.

Resolution of singularities for multi-loop integrals

2007

We report on a program for the numerical evaluation of divergent multi-loop integrals. The program is based on iterated sector decomposition. We improve the original algorithm of Binoth and Heinrich such that the program is guaranteed to terminate. The program can be used to compute numerically the Laurent expansion of divergent multi-loop integrals regulated by dimensional regularisation. The symbolic and the numerical steps of the algorithm are combined into one program.

Gender differences in French undergraduates' academic plans and wage expectations

2016

International audience; Gender differences in wage expectations may affect investment in human capital and increase inequalities in the labour market. Our research based on a survey of first-year students at a French university aims to focus on expectations at the beginning of the career. Our results show that anticipated earnings differ significantly between men and women. One year after graduation, we find a gender gap in pay of 16 percent. A wage decomposition method indicates that most of this effect is due to anticipation of discrimination. Ten years after graduation, anticipated discrimination is still almost as dominant in explaining the gender gap in pay. Finally, using a survey of …

The public–private sector wage gap in Latvia

2018

This study investigates the public-private sector wage gap in Latvia using microdata from the labour force survey. The severity of public sector wage cuts employed as a response to the economic crisis and subsequent recovery provides a test bed to analyse whether and how the public-private sector wage gap has adjusted after consolidation-driven wage cuts. Findings reveal that the observed wage gap is slightly in favour of the public sector; however, once differences in individual characteristics and selection effects are considered, results point to a private sector wage premium. Findings also suggest that the private sector wage premium has increased since the pre-crisis period. A signific…

Can Differences in Characteristics Explain Ethnic Wage Gap in Latvia?

2017

Abstract We used anonymized micro data from Labour Force Survey to estimate the ethnic wage gap in Latvia and find the factors that explain it. We found that a notable ethnic wage gap still exists in Latvia with non-Latvians earning 10 % less than Latvians in 2015. The results of Oaxaca-Ransom decomposition show that approximately two thirds of the ethnic wage gap are explained by differences in characteristics with the most important effects in favour of Latvians caused by segregation in better paying occupational groups, having Latvian citizenship and better education (higher education levels and more favourable segregation by education fields). This was partly offset by favourable segreg…

Photocatalytic Degradation of 4-Nitrophenol in Aqueous Suspension by Using Polycrystalline TiO2 Impregnated with Lanthanide Double-Decker Phthalocyan…

2007

The photocatalytic activity of polycrystalline TiO2 samples impregnated with rare-earth-metal diphthalocyanines was investigated. The 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) photocatalytic degradation in aqueous suspension was used as a probe reaction. Commercial anatase TiO2 was impregnated with home-prepared double-decker phthalocyanine complexes of the lanthanide metals, such as Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Ho, and Gd. In particular, the impregnation with Ho, Sm, and Nd complexes, acting as sensitizers, proved beneficial for the photoactivity of the studied systems. Significant improvements of the TiO2-based catalytic system appeared possible in terms of lower impregnation loading, enhanced photoreactivity under solar …

Generation of lanthanide coordination polymers with dicarboxylate ligands: synthesis, structure, thermal decomposition and magnetic properties of the…

2000

The malonate complex of formula [Pr2(C3H2O4)3(H2O)3]·2H2O (1) was prepared and his crystal structure determined by X-ray diffraction methods. 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21, Z = 4, with unit cell parameters a = 7.631(2), b = 12.899(4), c = 8.923(2) A and β = 101.11(3)°. 1 is a polymer which grows in the (110) plane. The hydrogen bond stabilizes the crystal structure forming a three-dimensional network. The two non-equivalent praseodymium(III) ions have different environments. Finally, the thermal behaviour and magnetic properties were investigated.

Size-intensive decomposition of orbital energy denominators

2000

We introduce an alternative to Almlöf and Häser’s Laplace transform decomposition of orbital energy denominators used in obtaining reduced scaling algorithms in perturbation theory based methods. The new decomposition is based on the Cholesky decomposition of positive semidefinite matrices. We show that orbital denominators have a particular short and size-intensive Cholesky decomposition. The main advantage in using the Cholesky decomposition, besides the shorter expansion, is the systematic improvement of the results without the penalties encountered in the Laplace transform decomposition when changing the number of integration points in order to control the convergence. Applications will…
