Mid-region parathyroid hormone-related protein is a genome-wide chromatin-binding factor that promotes growth and differentiation of HB2 epithelial c…

2018

Human parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP) is a polyhormone that undergoes proteolytic cleavage producing smaller peptides which exert diversified biological effects. PTHrP signalization is prominently involved in breast development and physiology, but the studies have been focused onto either N-terminal species or full-length protein introduced by gene transfer techniques. Our present work investigates for the first time the effect of the mid-region PTHrP secretory form, that is, the fragment [38-94], on HB2 non-tumoral breast epithelial cells. We examined viability/proliferation of cells grown in PTHrP-containing media supplemented with different serum concentration and on differen…

Archaeometric characterization of late Archaic ceramic from Erice (Sicily) aimed to provenance determination

2019

A set of 20 ceramic samples was autoptically selected from the numerous findings recovered from the stratigraphic excavations of the late Archaic city walls of Erice (western Sicily), in order to be analyzed with archaeometric techniques for provenance determination. The excavations were recently carried out as part of a research project funded by the Freie Universiat Berlin and the Fritz Thyssen Foundation. Specifically, the ceramic material consists of tableware with a painted geometric decoration of presumed local/regional production, as well as apparently imported black-glazed pottery. Both the categories can be traced back to a chronological period between the second half/last quarter …

Pottery decoration in the Neolithic of Kaf Taht el-Ghar (Tetouan, Morocco). AGRIWESTMED Works 2012

2021

2023

The Roman cabarets linked to Futurism were meeting places where the programme of the manifesto Ricostruzione futurista dell’universo was applied. Following the experiences of Bragaglia and Marchi at the Circolo delle Cronache d’Attualità and the setting by Giacomo Balla at the Bal Tic Tac, the entrepreneur and poet Gino Gori commissioned Fortunato Depero to decorate the Cabaret del Diavolo. Based on Dante’s Commedia, Depero would create an integral design of three spaces that configured an allegorical inverted reading of the Florentine poet’s journey to the afterworld. Its originality and careful advertising made the cabaret one of the representative spaces of the Roman nightlife which, des…

Majolica tiled spires in Sicily. Shape, structure and problems

2014

From the Classical era, the architecture of the Mediterranean were characterized by strong polychrome obtained with various decorative forms by elements of poor workmanship in the building smaller. This decorative forms were more ornate on the monumental architecture; among these the tiles are very present in the border regions. According to the architecture of the Islamic world and the local building culture, the tiles were reworked from surface decorations in brick and shingle, to less frequent three-dimensional elements that can be found in large numbers in the Sicilian area. The spires in majolica wedges, placed at the top of bell towers of urban centers Sicilian, represent striking arc…

The contribution presents an insight into the figure of Nino Geraci, a sculptor active in Palermo from 1900 to 1980 with a successful interlude in New York from 1927 to 1931 and an artist worthy of more careful critical consideration.

Iconography and monumental art in "feodal space" from the 10th to the 12th century : the depiction of the Three Kings and its spread

2012

This dissertation deals with the iconography of the Three Kings from the Xth to the XIIth century, by means of a study of its adaptation on monumental decoration in Latin Europe, so as to unravel how it was adapted by feudal society. In order to do so, the first question is that of the new royal status acquired in the Xth century by the Magi from the Gospel of Matthew, analyzed thanks to the concept of “ruler figure” that emerged at the time and was depicted by Marc Bloch in Les Rois thaumaturges (1924) and Ernst Kantorowicz in the The King’s Two Bodies (1957). The aim is to define where the newly defined Three Kings stand in the intricate network of “ties between man and man” theorized by …

Finiture storiche.
