The decisional process for a family tourist experience: some evidence from a Sicilian sample
2014
The tourist sector and above all the hotel one nowadays is more and more specialized in satisfying particular needs. To identify typical tourist needs of Sicilian families, and get a valuable product definition, we investigate the consumer behaviour, and before, the features of the persons that in a family take the decision to go on holiday and their motivations. But, who does decide inside the family? Which target the tourist operators should consider in defining family tourist services? We start our discussion by considering three hypotheses: H1) children influence the type (destination, accommodation, duration, etc.) of family vacation; H2) the way of influencing in connected to their ag…

Sex and Sexuality
2021
Abstract Symbolic interactionist approaches to sexuality state that human beings become sexual as they become whatever else and learn sexual definitions and sexual meanings just like they learn any other kind of meaning. Therefore, interactionist analysis shifts the focus of inquiry into sex from being sexual towards becoming sexual, which takes into account how sexualities are produced, organized, and negotiated, rather than tracing their sources in an immutable (conception of) nature. Sociosexual meanings give people the chance to define themselves and others sexually, to construct their sexual self and doing sexual things together in the shaping of more complex sexual choreographies and …
L’historien et ses modèles
2010
2016
The word minerality is widely used and spread by professionals and consumers. Since it’s first appearence in Marguerite Duras’ “Les Impudents” in 1946 in relation to wines, it passed from a fad in the early 1980’s to a phenomenon and a sensory reality today, even though no precise definition exists. Since the last decade, the use of the term “mineral” or “minerality” by the press, guides or producers themselves has notably increased in the world of wine. This enthusiasm for "minerality" concept was the origin of clever marketing and the reason for consumers to ask: What is minerality? Should I pay more for a bottle of mineral wine? The aim of this thesis is to better understand the concept o…
Computer game as a pragmatic concept : ideas, meanings, and culture
2020
This article discusses the ‘computer game’ as a pragmatic concept. A dual nature of the computer game as both a pragmatic idea and a pragmatic meaning is introduced. Practical meanings of the computer game correspond with the concrete effects that engaging with computer games produces in an individual. Practical ideas of the computer game correspond with the subjectively constituted conceptual families concerning the computer game’s assumed practical meaning. Individual computer games can be considered flat or round depending on the range of their practical meanings. Thus, the article contributes to the study of cultural objects by offering a framework for examining the evolution and existe…
Diasporic Politics and Defining Diaspora in Law: The Case of Latvia
2021
Abstract Passage of the Diaspora Law of Latvia required policymakers to go through an arduous process of discussing the limitations of diaspora, weighing the potential risks and benefits of various possible approaches, and ultimately agreeing on a definition to be included in the law. The end result was a very broad interpretation of who can be recognized as part of the Latvian diaspora. In this paper, to understand the political process of arriving at a definition, the theoretical perspectives of the ‘narrow’ and ‘broad’ definitions of diaspora are discussed, the motivations driving national governments to engage with their diasporas are analysed, and the discourse used during the drafting…
An Expert System for the Design of Agents
2007
The growing interest for the design and development of multi-agent systems has brought to the creation of a specific research area called Agent-Oriented Software Engineering (AOSE), specifically conceived for the development of complex systems. The development of such systems needs the support of appropriate tools that could help the designer in producing the design artefacts. We developed a tool called Metameth that may be used to define a new (agent-oriented) design process as well as to apply it. In this paper, we describe only a slice of this complex tool, specifically addressing the interaction with human actors (the designers). This subsystem is conceived as a collaborative multi-agen…
Sound and reusable components for abstract interpretation
2019
Abstract interpretation is a methodology for defining sound static analysis. Yet, building sound static analyses for modern programming languages is difficult, because these static analyses need to combine sophisticated abstractions for values, environments, stores, etc. However, static analyses often tightly couple these abstractions in the implementation, which not only complicates the implementation, but also makes it hard to decide which parts of the analyses can be proven sound independently from each other. Furthermore, this coupling makes it hard to combine soundness lemmas for parts of the analysis to a soundness proof of the complete analysis. To solve this problem, we propose to c…
Structural multilevel models for longitudinal mediation analysis: a definition variable approach
2022
Mediation analysis is used to assess the direct effect of an exposure on an outcome, and the indirect effect transmitted by a third intermediate variable. Longitudinal data are the most suited to address mediation, since they allow mediational effects to manifest over time. There exist several approaches to deal with longitudinal mediation analysis, and one of the most widely spread, especially in social and behavioural sciences, consists of using multilevel models. However, when applied to mediational settings, these models present some limitations that can be overcome moving to a structural perspective. In this paper we propose a new formalisation of multilevel models within a structural …
