3D echocardiographic reference ranges for normal left ventricular volumes and strain: results from the EACVI NORRE study
2017
International audience; Aim: To obtain the normal ranges for 3D echocardiography (3DE) measurement of left ventricular (LV) volumes, function, and strain from a large group of healthy volunteers. Methods and results: A total of 440 (mean age: 45 ± 13 years) out of the 734 healthy subjects enrolled at 22 collaborating institutions of the Normal Reference Ranges for Echocardiography (NORRE) study had good-quality 3DE data sets that have been analysed with a vendor-independent software package allowing homogeneous measurements regardless of the echocardiographic machine used to acquire the data sets. Upper limits of LV end-diastolic and end-systolic volumes were larger in men (97 and 42 mL/m2)…
Muscle mechanical properties of strength and endurance athletes and changes after one week of intensive training
2015
The study investigates whether tensiomyography (TMG) is sensitive to differentiate between strength and endurance athletes, and to monitor fatigue after either one week of intensive strength (ST) or endurance (END) training. Fourteen strength (24.1±2.0years) and eleven endurance athletes (25.5±4.8years) performed an intensive training period of 6days of ST or END, respectively. ST and END groups completed specific performance tests as well as TMG measurements of maximal radial deformation of the muscle belly (Dm), deformation time between 10% and 90% Dm (Tc), rate of deformation development until 10% Dm (V10) and 90% Dm (V90) before (baseline), after training period (post1), and after 72h o…
Echocardiographic reference ranges for normal left ventricular layer-specific strain: results from the EACVI NORRE study
2020
Abstract Aims To obtain the normal range for 2D echocardiographic (2DE) measurements of left ventricular (LV) layer-specific strain from a large group of healthy volunteers of both genders over a wide range of ages. Methods and results A total of 287 (109 men, mean age: 46 ± 14 years) healthy subjects were enrolled at 22 collaborating institutions of the EACVI Normal Reference Ranges for Echocardiography (NORRE) study. Layer-specific strain was analysed from the apical two-, three-, and four-chamber views using 2DE software. The lowest values of layer-specific strain calculated as ±1.96 standard deviations from the mean were −15.0% in men and −15.6% in women for epicardial strain, −16.8% …
An investigation of the mechanical properties of rubber modified asphalt mixtures using a modified dry process
2017
Incorporating recycling tyres into asphalt mixtures contributes to solving a serious environmental problem as well as the potential of improving the mechanical performance of asphalt mixtures. The recycled tyre rubber is added by two technologies known as the dry process (when rubber particles are treated as an aggregate modifier) and the wet process (when rubber particles are treated as a binder modifier). Although, the dry process is easier and requires minimal or no modification in the asphalt plant, the inconsistency in field performance makes the dry process not widely used. The main reason for this is believed to be the lack of interaction between the rubber particles and binder. In o…
The polyhedral Hodge number $h^{2,1}$ and vanishing of obstructions
2000
We prove a vanishing theorem for the Hodge number $h^{2,1}$ of projective toric varieties provided by a certain class of polytopes. We explain how this Hodge number also gives information about the deformation theory of the toric Gorenstein singularity derived from the same polytope. In particular, the vanishing theorem for $h^{2,1}$ implies that these deformations are unobstructed.
Structure of chloroantimonates(III) with an imidazolium cation: (C3H5N2)[SbCl4] and (C3H5N2)2[SbCl5]
2003
Abstract Two different chloroantimonates(III) with an imidazolium cation have been synthesized by the reaction of antimony trichloride and imidazole in an aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid. The crystals of (C3H5N2)[SbCl4] are monoclinic, space group C2/c, while (C3H5N2)2[SbCl5] crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, space group Pbcn. Both crystals are built of one dimensional zig-zag chains composed of [SbCl6]3− octahedra connected by edges and corners, respectively. The cavities between inorganic chains are filled by imidazolium cations. In both structures, one crystallographically independent imidazolium cation is rotationally disordered, and the positions of all atoms are split bet…
Peri-Gondwanan Ordovician arc magmatism in southeastern Ireland and the Isle of Man: Constraints on the timing of Caledonian deformation in Ganderia
2018
The timing of and tectonic controls on Ordovician magmatism and deformation within accreted terranes are key elements in reconstructing the generation of the Caledonian-Appalachian orogen. This pap ...
Strength of pre-Roman amphorae: Comparison of the different types
2015
Abstract Given that amphorae were used for storage or for long and/or short distance transport, they must have been able to retain their content and, at the same time, be able to resist important load during transport. This paper concerns aspects of the techno-functionality of pre-Roman Iberian amphorae. The basic performance requirement concerned here is the mechanical strength (transverse rupture strength: TRS). Strength is related to the adequacy for storage or short and/or long distance transport that, up to now, is only assessed by typological identification or archaeological evidence. Experimental implementation on actual archaeological material has confirmed that strength increased w…
