Double Exchange in Orbitally Degenerate Mixed Valence Clusters: Magnetic Anisotropy, Vibronic Effects

2001

In this paper we consider the vibronic problem of the double exchange in mixed-valence dimers containing transition metal ions in orbitally degenerate ground states. The vibronic model includes interaction with the breathing local modes (Piepho-Krausz-Schatz-PKS) as well as the modulation of metal-metal distances as suggested by Piepho. The double exchange in orbitally degenerate systems is shown to produce strong magnetic anisotropy of orbital nature. PKS interaction is expected to suppress the magnetic anisotropy of the system, while the intercenter vibrations tend to enhance it. The roles of spin-orbit coupling and temperature are revealed for the systems with different geometries.

Spectroscopy of Hexafluorides with an Odd Number of Electrons: The Vibronic Bands of IrF6

1996

Abstract The low resolution absorption spectroscopy of the first five excited electronic states of IrF 6 has made possible some new assignments for the vibronic transitions of this molecule, and the determination of new vibronic parameter values. They are more accurate than those found in the literature. In this aim, we introduce a simplified tensorial formulation for the linear Jahn–Teller terms in a fourfold degenerate electronic state of an XY 6 -type molecule, which allows easier computation of matrix elements and avoids the use of perturbation theory. Methods for IrF 6 synthesis (using a dynamical flow system) and purification are also presented.

Parametric coherent oscillation with feedback via an orthogonally polarized wave

1999

Coherent light amplification with photorefractive crystals may be a consequence of several frequency degenerate (or nearly degenerate) processes of nonlinear wave mixing : It appears for two- beam coupling in the crystals with diffusion-driven charge transport [1] or transport via circular photovoltaic currents [2].

Transverse patterns in degenerate optical parametric oscillation and degenerate four-wave mixing.

1996

Transverse pattern formation in both degenerate optical parametric oscillation and degenerate four-wave mixing is considered both theoretically and numerically. In the limit of small signal detuning both systems are shown to be described by the real Swift-Hohenberg equation. Contrarily, for small signal and large pump detunings the Swift-Hohenberg equation is modified differently in both systems, by the appearance of additional nonlinear terms, which signal the existence of nonlinear resonances that are theoretically studied through the derivation of the amplitude equation for the roll pattern in both systems. Numerical analysis supports the theoretical predictions. \textcopyright{} 1996 Th…

Search for a scalar top almost degenerate with the lightest neutralino e(+)e(-) collisions at root s up to 202 GeV

2000

Data collected at centre-of-mass energies from 189 GeV to 202 GeV by the ALEPH detector at LEP corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 411 pb(-1), are analysed in a search for the scalar top in the decay channels (t) over tilde --> c/u chi for small mass differences between the stop and the lightest neutralino. No evidence for deviations from the Standard Model expectation is found and a lower limit of 59 GeV/c(2) is set for the stop mass, independent of the stop to neutralino mass difference and of the stop lifetime. Neutrino Bremsstrahlung from electrons in neutron star crusts

2001

The process of v (v) over bar Bremsstrahlung via electron scattering off nuclei in the crust of a cooling neutron star is studied within the Random Phase Approximation. We show that the electromagnetic plasma screens the vector weak coupling of electrons with the neutrino field. This screening effect takes place in both the crystalline and liquid phase of the neutron star crust, when the momentum carried out by the neutrino pair is smaller than the inverse Debye screening distance of the electrons. This condition holds in the crust volume at temperatures and densities where the electron Bremsstrahlung dominates the neutrino production. As a result, the vector weak current contribution to th…

Quasi-particle and plasmaron properties in the electron gas

1972

The self-energy function of the degenerate electron gas is studied in an approximation which uses the dielectric function proposed by Singwi, Tosi, Land and Sjolander, and neglects the corresponding vertex corrections. Two contributions to the self-energy are distinguished which arise from the plasmon pole and the particle-hole continuum respectively. Comparison of the results is made with the analogous approximation to the self-energy which uses the RPA dielectric function, and with a further, simplified approximation. Subsequently the properties of the usual quasi-particle and of the plasmaron are calculated. Nummerically, the most significant effect found is a 25% reduction of the plasma…

An extended Lipkin-type model with residual proton-neutron interaction

1997

Abstract The Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick (LMG) model is extended to explicitly take into account the proton and neutron degrees of freedom. The proton and neutron Hamiltonians are taken to be of the LMG form, and, in addition, a residual proton-neutron interaction is include. Exact solutions in an SU (2) ⊗ SU (2) basis as well as the RPA solutions for the energy spectrum of the model Hamiltonian are obtained. The spectrum of the exact solutions is degenerate in the limit of no proton-neutron residual interaction, but this degeneracy is totally removed when this type of residual interaction is turned on. The spectrum obtained with RPA is compressed or expanded, as compared to the LMG model with the…

Neutrinoless double beta decay in light of SNO salt data

2003

In the SNO data from its salt run, probably the most significant result is the consistency with the previous results without assuming the 8B energy spectrum. In addition, they have excluded the maximal mixing at a very high confidence level. This has an important implication on the double beta decay experiments. For the inverted or degenerate mass spectrum, we find |_{ee}| > 0.013 eV at 95% CL, and the next generation experiments can discriminate Majorana and Dirac neutrinos if the inverted or degenerate mass spectrum will be confirmed by the improvements in cosmology, tritium data beta decay, or long-baseline oscillation experiments.

Molecular Ω states

2018

Motivated by the recent finding of five Ωc states by the LHCb collaboration, and the successful reproduction of three of them in a recent approach searching for molecular states of meson–baryon with the quantum numbers of Ωc, we extend these ideas and make predictions for the interaction of meson–baryon in the beauty sector, searching for poles in the scattering matrix that correspond to physical states. We find several Ωb states: two states with masses 6405 MeV and 6465 MeV for JP=12−; two more states with masses 6427 MeV and 6665 MeV for 32−; and three states between 6500 and 6820 MeV, degenerate with JP=12−,32−, stemming from the interaction of vector–baryon in the beauty sector.
