Ship-to-Ship State Observer Using Sensor Fusion and the Extended Kalman Filter

2019

In this paper, a solution for estimating the relative position and orientation between two ships in six degrees-of-freedom (6DOF) using sensor fusion and an extended Kalman filter (EKF) approach is presented. Two different sensor types, based on time-of-flight and inertial measurement principles, were combined to create a reliable and redundant estimate of the relative motion between the ships. An accurate and reliable relative motion estimate is expected to be a key enabler for future ship-to-ship operations, such as autonomous load transfer and handling. The proposed sensor fusion algorithm was tested with real sensors (two motion reference units (MRS) and a laser tracker) and an experime…

Mechatronic Design for an Extrusion-Based Additive Manufacturing Machine

2017

3D printers, especially in the implementation of innovative extrusion processes which do not have a long history of development, are often built by adapting mechanical designs, drives and controls previously developed for generic machine tools. This is done through a process of choice and integration which is based principally on empirical criteria and taking into account separately the different aspects and parameters. Hereafter, we present an integrated mechatronic approach which has been adopted to design from the scratch a machine to implement the innovative metal injection moulding (MIM) technology. Its extrusion rate involves the adaptation of the generated trajectories and consequent…

Higher Degree F-transforms Based on B-splines of Two Variables

2016

The paper deals with the higher degree fuzzy transforms (F-transforms with polynomial components) for functions of two variables in the case when two-dimensional generalized fuzzy partition is given by B-splines of two variables. We investigate properties of the direct and inverse F-transform in this case and prove that using B-splines as basic functions of fuzzy partition allows us to improve the quality of approximation.

An Artificial Bee Colony Approach for Classification of Remote Sensing Imagery

2018

This paper presents a novel Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) approach for supervised classification of remote sensing images. One proposes to apply an ABC algorithm to optimize the coefficients of the set of polynomial discriminant functions. We have experimented the proposed ABC-based classifier algorithm for a Landsat 7 ETM+ image database, evaluating the influence of the ABC model parameters on the classifier performances. Such ABC model parameters are: numbers of employed/onlooker/scout bees, number of epochs, and polynomial degree. One has compared the best ABC classifier Overall Accuracy (OA) with the performances obtained using a set of benchmark classifiers (NN, NP, RBF, and SVM). The re…

Changes in soil mineral N content and abundances of bacterial communities involved in N reactions under laboratory conditions as predictors of soil N…

2016

Proper management of soil fertility requires specific tools for predicting N availability for crops as a consequence of different fertilization strategies. More information is required, especially for organic fertilizers, depending on their mineralization rate, composition, and processing (i.e., fresh or composted manure), as well as their effects on soil properties. Laboratory soil incubations were used as a proxy for understanding plant–soil N dynamics under field conditions. Chemical and microbiological measurements as contents of mineral N, potentially mineralizable N and the abundance of key genes regulating the overall N cycle were used as predictors of mineral N availability to maize…

Searching events in AFM force-extension curves: A wavelet approach

2016

An algorithm, based on the wavelet scalogram energy, for automatically detecting events in force-extension AFM force spectroscopy experiments is introduced. The events to be detected are characterized by a discontinuity in the signal. It is shown how the wavelet scalogram energy has different decay rates at different points depending on the degree of regularity of the signal, showing faster decay rates at regular points and slower rates at singular points (jumps). It is shown that these differences produce peaks in the scalogram energy plot at the event points. Finally, the algorithm is illustrated in a tether analysis experiment by using it for the detection of events in the AFM force-exte…

Primjena ekstrakta proteina sirutke u proizvodnji smrznutog mliječnog deserta

2018

The aim of this work was to substantiate the use of whey protein extract (WPE), a by-product of dairy industry, combined with different berry purees in the formulation of a whipped frozen dairy dessert (WFDD). After freezing, the swelling ability of WPE decreased significantly while at higher temperatures of the dispersion medium, the degree of swelling increased. A mixture containing 55±2 % WPE and 45±2 % milk presented a homogeneous consistency while the further processing did not improve the structure of the mixture. Final formulations of WFDD containing different berry purees (i.e. 10 % black¬currant puree, 25 % cherry puree, or 30 % strawberry puree) were proposed for which the nutriti…

The Impact of Biopreparations and Phytopathogenic Bacteria of the Pseudomonas Genus on L-Phenylalanine Ammonia-Lyase Activity in Soybean and Lupine P…

2020

It is known that plant protection against diseases is based mainly on the use of pesticides. These chemicals or their degradation products have a detrimental effect on the environment and human health. Due to this, the search for methods of plant protection that are safe for the environment is becoming increasingly popular. Induction of plant resistance to disease is one of the promising non-chemical ways of protection, in which plant enzymes play a key role. It was shown that in response to pathogen invasion, plants enhance protective properties by inducing the activity of a wide range of enzymes that slow the spread of infection, in particular: peroxidases, β-1,3-glucanases, chitinases, p…

Protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks are associated with multiple types of biases partly rooted in technical limitations of the experimental techniques. Another source of bias are the different frequencies with which proteins have been studied for interaction partners. It is generally believed that proteins with a large number of interaction partners tend to be essential, evolutionarily conserved and involved in disease. It has been repeatedly reported that proteins driving tumor formation have a higher number of PPI partners. However, it has been noticed before that the degree distribution of PPI networks is biased towards disease proteins, which tend to have been studied more often …
