International audience; Background & Aims: The risk of developing colorectal neoplasia is not well established among family members of individuals with large adenomas and screening strategies remain under debate in this population. This study aimed at quantifying the risk of colorectal adenomas and cancers using colonoscopic screening in first-degree relatives of patients with large adenomas. Hysteretic Systems Subjected to Delta Correlated Input

The paper deals with the evaluation of the probabilistic response of a single degree of freedom elastic-perfectly plastic system subjected to a delta correlated input process. The probabilistic characterisation of the response is here obtained by considering the accumulated plastic deformations as a compound homogeneous Poisson process independent of the external input. In this case the former can be considered as an external noise acting on the linear system. A closed form solution is also obtained and the analytic expression is compared with the customary Monte-Carlo method.
On the spectrum of semi-classical Witten-Laplacians and Schrödinger operators in large dimension

We investigate the low-lying spectrum of Witten–Laplacians on forms of arbitrary degree in the semi-classical limit and uniformly in the space dimension. We show that under suitable assumptions implying that the phase function has a unique local minimum one obtains a number of clusters of discrete eigenvalues at the bottom of the spectrum. Moreover, we are able to count the number of eigenvalues in each cluster. We apply our results to certain sequences of Schrodinger operators having strictly convex potentials and show that some well-known results of semi-classical analysis hold also uniformly in the dimension.
Efficient Time Integration of Maxwell's Equations with Generalized Finite Differences

We consider the computationally efficient time integration of Maxwell’s equations using discrete exterior calculus (DEC) as the computational framework. With the theory of DEC, we associate the degrees of freedom of the electric and magnetic fields with primal and dual mesh structures, respectively. We concentrate on mesh constructions that imitate the geometry of the close packing in crystal lattices that is typical of elemental metals and intermetallic compounds. This class of computational grids has not been used previously in electromagnetics. In the last decades, the Italian University System has encountered several structural reforms aimed at making it more internationally competitive. Among them, the introduction of the University financial autonomy has triggered an “internal” competition among Universities to attract students from the entire country.
