Functionalization of nanoparticles in specific targeting and mechanism release

2017

The development of various nanotechnologies have provided a new field of research, which allows the manipulation of molecular components of matter and covers a vast array of nanodevices. The “smart” multifunctional nanostructures should work as customizable, targeted drug-delivery vehicles capable of carrying large doses of therapeutic agents into malignant cells. Some nanomedical approaches are based on the use of functionalized nanoparticles (NPs), not only to reduce toxicity and side effects of drugs but, also in potential the biological barriers crossing on, such as: the blood–brain barrier, different cellular compartments, including the nucleus. Currently, many materials are used for n…

Cuba and Italy: a comparative study on the determinants of health in a context of limited resources

2012

Italian and Cuban healthcare systems, although operating in very different context, show some of the best evidence in the world in terms of health outcomes. The Cuban model, unique because of an historical-economic-political asset not repeatable, had oriented its development on education and health promotion through a public health approach. The aim of our study is to perform a comparison of the Italian and Cuban healthcare system through the use of health indicators validated at international level in order to identify best practices. Cuba provides health care to all residents focusing strongly on primary care and health promotion and obtains similar results to Italy despite the limited av…

Iontophoresis: electrorepulsion and electroosmosis.

2000

Over the last 10-15 years, the electrical enhancement of drug delivery across the skin has undergone intense investigation. During this period, considerable amounts of experimental data have been generated, and the successful enhancement of a diverse array of molecules has been achieved. Indeed, the commercial exploitation of the method can be envisaged within the next few years. Despite this progress, however, the mechanistic understanding of iontophoresis remains a challenging scientific question that is yet to be fully resolved. The routes of permeation under the influence of an applied electrical potential, and the molecular interactions of the transporting drug with these pathways, hav…

From Agile Software Development to Mercury Business

2014

The rapid downfall of the Nokia software ecosystem has radically altered the landscape of software industry in Finland in recent years. There has been a shift from largely corporate driven way of working, which is often dominant in large companies, to more agile practices, and in general software organizations are seeking new, leaner ways of composing, delivering, and using software also inside already established companies. To accelerate this transformation in large scale, a collaborative research program has been created, called Need for Speed (N4S). In this paper, we give an insight to the joint goals and concrete actions of the program and discuss the motivations of individual companies…

Structural Features of β-Cyclodextrin Solvation in the Deep Eutectic Solvent, Reline

2020

The inherently amphiphilic nature of native cyclodextrins (CDs) determines their peculiar molecular encapsulation features, enabling applications such as targeted drug nanodelivery, aroma protection, etc. On the contrary, it may also lead to poor solubility in water and other organic solvents and to potentially detrimental flocking in these media, thus posing limitations to more extensive usage. Here we use small angle X-ray scattering to show that deep eutectic solvent reline (1:2 choline chloride:urea) succeeds in dissolving large amounts of beta-CD (at least 800 mg/mL, compared with the solubility in water of 18 mg/mL), without aggregation phenomena occurring. At the microscopic level, m…

Logistyka ostatniej mili jako najdroższy odcinek łańcucha dostaw

2022

Last mile logistics is considered the most expensive part of the supply chain. This is due to the high cost of deliveries related to the costs of organizing the transport of small parcels to individual customers, including the costs of fuel, vehicle operation and couriers. Considering the growing popularity of e-commerce among citizens, the growing problem of the last mile of deliveries should be analysed. The study focuses on the analysis of the literature on the subject, as well as on the existing or possible solutions to issues related to deliveries to the end customer. The main aim of the study is to present the proposed solutions to the last mile problem in the light of possible benefi…

Balance Sheet of Screening for Diabetic Retinopathy With a Mobile Non-Mydriatic Digital Camera in Burgundy, France

2009

Purpose: To assess the economic balance-sheet of screening for diabetic retinopathy (DR) with a mobile non-mydriatic digital camera in Burgundy, France, in a public health and economic perspective. Methods: The 72 lowest medicalised areas of Burgundy were visited. Retinal images were obtained with a non-mydriatic camera. To construct an economic model, we used available data on the prevalence of diabetes in Burgundy, the efficiency of the screening, the number of screened DR, blindness probability according to DR grading, the efficiency of laser therapy, the diabetic characteristics (gender, age, income, professional status and life expectancy) and medical costs induced by our campaign.Resul…

Artificial intelligence in the diagnosis of pediatric allergic diseases.

2020

Abstract: Artificial intelligence (AI) is a field of data science pertaining to advanced computing machines capable of learning from data and interacting with the human world. Early diagnosis and diagnostics, self-care, prevention and wellness, clinical decision support, care delivery, and chronic care management have been identified within the healthcare areas that could benefit from introducing AI. In pediatric allergy research, the recent developments in AI approach provided new perspectives for characterizing the heterogeneity of allergic diseases among patients. Moreover, the increasing use of electronic health records and personal healthcare records highlighted the relevance of AI in …
