Evolution of Bacterial Community in a Full-scale Biotrickling Filter by Fluorescence in Situ Hybridization (FISH)

2012

The performance of a full-scale biotrickling system for the treatment of exhaust gases from two different paint sources at a furniture facility, was investigated applying Fluorescense in situ hybridization (FISH). This technique allowed the detection of major bacteria groups and, therefore, helped in understanding complex microbial communities. The results indicated that Alphaproteobacteria, Betaproteobacteria, Gammaproteobacteria, and Deltaproteobacteria were more predominant than Firmicutes and Actiniobacterias. In addition, a variation in the composition of the bacterial community throughout the time of operation and with the paint source was observed. Betaproteobacteria showed similar r…

Bioavailability and assessment of heavy metal pollution in sediment cores off the Mejerda River Delta (Gulf of Tunis): How useful is a multiproxy app…

2016

International audience; Three core samples were taken from zones offshore from the Mejerda River Delta (Tunisia) and analyzed formajor and trace elements to assess their relationships with organic matter, monosulfides and carbonates, aswell as for pollution and bioavailability. Chemical speciation,ΣSEM/AVS, the enrichment factor (EF) and thegeo-accumulation index (I-geo) were used. Iron, cadmium, lead and zinc – the most frequently mined metalsin the Mejerda catchment – were found as contaminants in the offshore areas. Estimations of trace elementaccumulation using the EF and the I-geo index show that lead, and to a lesser extent zinc, are the most pollutingmetals off the Mejerda outlet. Ac…

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor δ (PPARδ) activation protects H9c2 cardiomyoblasts from oxidative stress-induced apoptosis

2005

Activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARalpha) and PPARgamma plays beneficial roles in cardiovascular disorders such as atherosclerosis and heart reperfusion. Although PPARalpha and gamma have been documented to reduce oxidative stress in the vasculature and the heart, the role of PPARdelta remains poorly studied. We focused on PPARdelta function in the regulation of oxidative stress-induced apoptosis in the rat cardiomyoblast cell line H9c2. Using semi-quantitative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), we showed that PPARdelta is the predominantly expressed isotype whereas PPARalpha was weakly detected. By performing cell viability assays, we …

Immunomodulating role of bisphosphonates on human gamma delta T cells: an intriguing and promising aspect of their antitumour activity.

2007

Vgamma9Vdelta2 T cells have the ability to produce inflammatory cytokines involved in protective immunity against intracellular pathogens and tumours and to display strong cytolytic as well as bactericidal activities. This suggests a direct involvement of Vgamma9Vdelta2 T lymphocytes in immune control of cancer and infections. These observations have recently aided development of novel immunotherapeutic approaches aimed at Vgamma9Vdelta2 T cell activation. Nitrogen-containing bisphosphonates (N-BPs) play a crucial role in Vgamma9Vdelta2 T lymphocyte activation and in the acquisition of effector functions. The preliminary results of these innovative strategies are encouraging. Moreover, comp…

Effect of deltamethrin (pyrethroid insecticide) on two clones of Daphnia magna (Crustacea, Cladocera): A proteomic investigation.

2014

8 pages; International audience; Deltamethrin is a class II pyrethroid insecticide commonly used in agriculture. It is hazardous to freshwater ecosystems, especially for the cladoceran Daphnia magna (Straus 1820). The results of our previous studies based on acute and chronic ecotoxicity experiments revealed differences in the sensitivity between two different clones. In this work, to investigate deltamethrin toxicity mechanisms in two clones of D. magna, we used a proteomic approach in order to analyze changes in protein expression profiles after 48h of exposure. We detected 1339 spots; then applying statistical criteria (ANOVA p<0.001 and minimum fold change 1.5), only 128 spots were sign…

Multiplication of distributions in any dimension: Applications to δ-function and its derivatives

2009

In two previous papers the author introduced a multiplication of distributions in one dimension and he proved that two one-dimensional Dirac delta functions and their derivatives can be multiplied, at least under certain conditions. Here, mainly motivated by some engineering applications in the analysis of the structures, we propose a different definition of multiplication of distributions which can be easily extended to any spatial dimension. In particular we prove that with this new definition delta functions and their derivatives can still be multiplied.

On Serrin’s overdetermined problem in space forms

2018

We consider Serrin’s overdetermined problem for the equation $$\Delta v + nK v = -\,1$$ in space forms, where K is the curvature of the space, and we prove a symmetry result by using a P-function approach. Our approach generalizes the one introduced by Weinberger to space forms and, as in the Euclidean case, it provides a short proof of the symmetry result which does not make use of the method of moving planes.

Ciclos pelíticos de bahía Interdistributaria del nivel intramareal inferior del grupo Roda-Oroel (sector occidental del paleodelta de Ager, Lérida)

1984

The deposits of the ancient Ager deltaic system (Lérida, Spain) are characterized in some way by the existence of cycles constituted, in a large scale, by alternances of pelites and sandstone bodies. According to geological literature these deposits represent bay marls and stream-mouth-bars, in the eastern-most counterpart. In this area sorne pelitic sections show a pronounced cyclical pattern devoid to repetitions of two terms: A marly bioturbated one, and the other one, constituted by undisturbed delicately laminated clays. Part of the deposits of the "Intramarea1 Inferior" level (''Tramo Superior" of the Roda-Oroel depositional system) in the area comprised between La Régola cementery an…
