Modeling the Interaction of Carbon Monoxide with Flexible Graphene: From Coupled Cluster Calculations to Molecular-Dynamics Simulations
2018
The interaction of CO with graphene was studied at different theoretical levels. Quantum-mechanical calculations on finite graphene models with the use of coronene for coupled cluster calculations and circumcoronene for B97D calculations showed that there was no preferential site for adsorption and that the most important factor was the orientation of CO relative to graphene. The parallel orientation was preferred, with binding energies around 9 kJ mol-1 at the CCSD(T) and B97D levels, which was in good agreement with experimental findings. From a large number of CO-circumcoronene and CO-CO interactions, computed at different distances and randomly generated orientations, parameters were fi…
Tetrathiafulvalene-Based Mixed-Valence Acceptor-Donor-Acceptor Triads: A Joint Theoretical and Experimental Approach
2013
This work presents a joint theoretical and experimental characterisation of the structural and electronic properties of two tetrathiafulvalene (TTF)-based acceptor-donor-acceptor triads (BQ-TTF-BQ and BTCNQ-TTF - BTCNQ; BQ is naphthoquinone and BTCNQ is benzotetracyano-p-quinodimethane) in their neutral and reduced states. The study is performed with the use of electrochemical, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), and UV/Vis/NIR spectroelectrochemical techniques guided by quantum-chemical calculations. Emphasis is placed on the mixed-valence properties of both triads in their radical anion states. The electrochemical and EPR results reveal that both BQ-TTF-BQ and BTCNQ-TTF-BTCNQ triads in…
Experimental and Theoretical Study on the Cycloreversion of a Nucleobase-Derived Azetidine by Photoinduced Electron Transfer.
2018
[EN] Azetidines are interesting compounds in medicine and chemistry as bioactive scaffolds and synthetic intermediates. However, photochemical processes involved in the generation and fate of azetidine-derived radical ions have scarcely been reported. In this context, the photoreduction of this four-membered heterocycle might be relevant in connection with the DNA (6-4) photoproduct obtained from photolyase. Herein, a stable azabipyrimidinic azetidine (AZT(m)), obtained from cycloaddition between thymine and 6-azauracil units, is considered to be an interesting model of the proposed azetidine-like intermediate. Hence, its photoreduction and photo-oxidation are thoroughly investigated throug…
Diene-Containing Half-Sandwich MoIII Complexes as Ethylene Polymerization Catalysts: Experimental and Theoretical Studies
2001
International audience; Seventeen-electron compounds of Mo III having the general formula [(h 5-C 5 R 5)Mo(h 4-diene)X 2 ] (R H, Me; diene butadiene, iso-prene, or 2,3-dimethylbutadiene; X Cl, CH 3) are a new class of ethylene polymerization catalysts. The polyethy-lene obtained shows a bimodal distribution , the major weight fraction being characterized by very long (M around 10 6) and highly linear polymer chains. The newly prepared pentamethylcyclo-pentadienyl (Cp*) derivatives are more active than the cyclopentadienyl (Cp) derivatives, but much less active than previously investigated niobium III compounds having the same stoichiometry. On the other hand, the turnover frequency of the a…
Magneto-structural and theoretical study of the weak interactions in a Mn(II) complex with a very unusual N,O-chelating coordination mode of 2-aminot…
2017
International audience; The Mn(II) complex {[Mn(atpa)(H2O)2]·H2O}n (1),with the dicarboxylate ligand 2-aminoterephthalic acid (H2atpa), has been synthesized and crystallographically, spectroscopically and magnetically characterized. Complex 1 shows a very unusual 1κ2N,O coordination mode of the aminoterephthalate dianion with the Mn(II) ion. One of the carboxylate groups shows a syn-anti-μ2-η1:η1 binding mode to form a 2D square grid. The magnetic properties of this compound can be very well reproduced with a regular S = 5/2 chain model with a very weak antiferromagnetic coupling constant of J = −0.2 cm−1 through the single syn-anti carboxylate bridges. EPR measurement also supports the exp…
Zero-field nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy of viscous liquids
2014
Abstract We report zero-field NMR measurements of a viscous organic liquid, ethylene glycol. Zero-field spectra were taken showing resolved scalar spin–spin coupling (J-coupling) for ethylene glycol at different temperatures and water contents. Molecular dynamics strongly affects the resonance linewidth, which closely follows viscosity. Quantum chemical calculations have been used to obtain the relative stability and coupling constants of all ethylene glycol conformers. The results show the potential of zero-field NMR as a probe of molecular structure and dynamics in a wide range of environments, including viscous fluids.
Dicopper(II) Metallacyclophanes with Electroswitchable Polymethyl-Substitutedpara-Phenylene Spacers
2013
Double-stranded anionic dinuclear copper(II) metallacyclic complexes of the paracyclophane type [Cu2L2]4- have been prepared by the CuII-mediated self-assembly of different para-phenylenebis(oxamato) bridging ligands with either zero-, one-, or four-electron-donating methyl substituents (L=N,N′-para- phenylenebis(oxamate) (ppba; 1), 2-methyl- N,N′-para-phenylenebis(oxamate) (Meppba; 2), and 2,3,5,6-tetramethyl- N,N′-para-phenylenebis(oxamate) (Me4ppba; 3)). These complexes have been isolated as their tetra-n-butylammonium (1 a-3 a), lithium(I) (1 b-3 b), and tetraphenylphosphonium salts (1 c-3 c). The X-ray crystal structures of 1 a and 3 c show a parallel-displaced π-stacked conformation w…
Carbon–Phosphorus Coupling from C^N Cyclometalated Au III Complexes
2020
Abstract With the aim of exploiting new organometallic species for cross‐coupling reactions, we report here on the AuIII‐mediated Caryl−P bond formation occurring upon reaction of C^N cyclometalated AuIII complexes with phosphines. The [Au(C^N)Cl2] complex 1 featuring the bidentate 2‐benzoylpyridine (CCON) scaffold was found to react with PTA (1,3,5‐triaza‐7‐phosphaadamantane) under mild conditions, including in water, to afford the corresponding phosphonium 5 through C−P reductive elimination. A mechanism is proposed for the title reaction based on in situ 31P{1H} NMR and HR‐ESI‐MS analyses combined with DFT calculations. The C−P coupling has been generalized to other C^N cyclometalated Au…
Guest Modulation of Spin-Crossover Transition Temperature in a Porous Iron(II) Metal Organic Framework: Experimental and Periodic DFT Studies
2014
The synthesis, structure, and magnetic properties of three clathrate derivatives of the spin-crossover porous coordination polymer {Fe(pyrazine)[Pt(CN)(4)]} (1) with five-membered aromatic molecules furan, pyrrole, and thiophene is reported. The three derivatives have a cooperative spin-crossover transition with hysteresis loops 14-29 K wide and average critical temperatures T-c=201 K (1.fur), 167 K (1.pyr), and 114.6 K (1.thio) well below that of the parent compound 1 (T-c=295 K), confirming stabilization of the HS state. The transition is complete and takes place in two steps for 1.fur, while 1.pyr and 1.thio show 50% spin transition. For 1.fur the transformation between the HS and IS (mi…
Synthesis of Densely Functionalised 5-Halogen-1,3-oxazin-2-ones byHalogen-Mediated Regioselective Cyclisation of N-Cbz-ProtectedPropargylic Amines: A…
2013
A very efficient synthesis of 5-halogen-1,3-oxazin-2-ones has been accomplished by the halocyclisation reaction of chiral nonracemic N-carbobenzyloxy (N-Cbz)-protected propargylic amines by using I-2, Br-2 and Cl-2 as electrophile sources. The nature of the halogen influences the reaction time and yield. However, in all cases the reaction is totally regioselective taking place through a 6-endo-dig process regardless of the nature of the halogen and of the substituents in the starting material. To rationalise the experimental results, theoretical studies at the B3LYP/6-311G* level have been performed.
