Effects of Ultraviolet Photoactivation on Osseointegration of Commercial Pure Titanium Dental Implant After 8 Weeks in a Rabbit Model

This study investigated whether a 6-Watt ultraviolet C-lamp was capable of producing photofunctionalization on commercial implants during a medium observation term of 8 weeks. A total of 20 implants were inserted in 5 New Zealand rabbits, with each animal receiving 2 implants per tibia (one photofunctionalized and one untreated), according to a previously established randomization sequence. In vivo and in vitro degradation of a novel bioactive guided tissue regeneration membrane

The aim of this study was to assess degradation of a novel bioactive guided tissue regeneration (GTR) membrane and to quantify the concurrent tissue responses. Pieces of membrane composed of poly-l-lactide, poly-d,l-lactide, trimethylenecarbonate and polyglycolide were dipped into an N-methyl-2-pyrroline (NMP) solution and implanted in the mandibles of 10 sheep. The animals were sacrificed at 6-104 weeks. Parallel in vitro degradation was analysed by measuring the inherent viscosity, water absorption and remaining mass. Irritative and sensory disturbances in oral implantology. Literature review.

The aim of this study was to review irritative and sensory disturbances following placement of dental implants. A literature search was made of PubMed for articles published between 2000 and 2010. Studies that reported sensory disturbances directly caused by the placement of dental implants were included. Sensory deficits or trigeminal neuropathy are caused by damage to the third branch of the trigeminal nerve du-ring surgery.
