USA:n presidentinvaalien ehdokkaiden representaatiot vaaliväittelyitä koskevissa Helsingin Sanomien uutisteksteissä
2017
Tässä tutkielmassa olen tutkinut Helsingin Sanomien uutisten muodostamia representaatioita vuoden 2016 Yhdysvaltain presidentinvaalien ehdokkaista Donald Trumpista ja Hillary Clintonista. Vaaleista uutisoitiin run-saasti ympäri maailmaa paitsi niiden yhteiskunnallisen merkittävyyden myös poikkeuksellisten käänteiden ja ehdokkaiden välisten ristiriitojen takia. Myös yleisön mielipiteet olivat vahvasti jakautuneet sillä Trump nähtiin arvaamattomana mutta uudistavana vaihtoehtona, kun taas Clintonia pidettiin turvallisena jatkumona Barack Obaman kausille. Tämän huomioiden uutisointi aiheesta on kiinnostavaa: uutisten oletetaan tarjoavan objektiivista informaatiota, mutta kuitenkin tiedotusväli…
Loanheitosta viivytystaisteluun : Kansallinen Kokoomus, Aamulehti, Maalaisliitto ja Urho Kekkonen 1954 - 1959
2013
Tutkimuksessa käsitellään Kansallisen Kokoomuksen, Aamulehden, Maalaisliiton ja Urho Kekkosen suhteita vuosina 1954 – 1959. Ydinkysymys työssä on, kuinka eri osapuolten väliset suhteet muuttuivat tutkittavana ajankohtana. Mitkä seikat vaikuttivat tapahtuneisiin muutoksiin, mitä osapuolet tekivät niitä kehittääkseen, minkälaiseen tilaan ne jäivät tutkimusjakson päättyessä ja miltä niiden tulevaisuus näytti ennen kaikkea Kansallisen Kokoomuksen näkökulmasta? Tutkimuksessa haetaan vertailevilla ja useammalla lähdekriittisellä tutkimusmenetelmällä vastausta kysymykseen, kuinka kokoomuksen tamperelaisen äänenkannattajan suhtautuminen eri osapuoliin erosi muusta lehdistöstämme, eritoten kokoomuks…

Effects of ultrasonically activated irrigants with or without surfactant on smear layer removal after post space preparation
2012
The aim of this study was to compare the effects of different NaOCl and EDTA formulations with/without ultrasonic use on smear layer removal and root canal surface characteristics after post space preparation. Study design: After post space preparations, forty-six teeth were subjected to different post space irrigation regimes; G1, 17% EDTA; G2, 17% EDTA+Ultrasonic activation; G3, EDTA-T; G4, EDTA-T+Ultrasonic activation; G5, NaOCl; G6, NaOCl+Ultrasonic activation. Specimens were examined under scanning electron microscope and scored for debris and smear layer removal and dentinal tubule opening and statistically analyzed with Kruskal Wallis and Dunn's test. Significance value was set at p<…
Effectiveness of Nd:YAG Laser on the elimination of debris and Smear Layer : a comparative study with two different irrigation solution: Edta and qmi…
2018
Background The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness in dentin debris and smear layer removal from root canal walls using EDTA and QMix® alone and also activated with Nd:YAG laser. Material and Methods 50 single-rooted teeth were instrumented and divided in 5 groups according to irrigation protocol: 17% EDTA, QMix®, Nd:YAG laser alone, and combination of 17% EDTA - Nd:YAG laser and QMix® - Nd:YAG laser. Samples were evaluated using SEM. Statistical analysis was done using Chi-Square Fisher exact test and McNemar test. Results Dentinal debris analysis showed statistically significant differences when comparing 17% EDTA vs Laser and Laser vs QMix® in combination with Laser at th…
Efficacy of NaOCl/H2O2irrigation and GaAlAs laser in decontamination of root canals in vitro
2003
Background and Objectives To investigate the bactericidal effect of an 809 nm semiconductor laser alone, and in combination with NaOCl/H2O2 irrigation in root canals in vitro. Study Design/Materials and Methods A total of 72 human single-rooted teeth extracted for periodontal reasons were included. The crowns were removed, the roots shortened to a length of 12 mm, and the canals enlarged up to an apical size of #50 file. The specimens were autoclaved and incubated with a suspension of Streptococcus sanguinis (ATCC 10556). Laser irradiation was performed on a PC-controlled XY translation stage. A 200 micron optic fiber was used. Twelve specimens were irradiated at a power output of 1.5, 3.0,…
Dentin degradonomics – The potential role of salivary MMP-8 in dentin caries
2019
Background Dentin caries involves dissolution of minerals which eventually leads to degradation of organic matrix. This degradation which was thought to be by bacterial proteases is now considered to be orchestrated by endogenous collagenases such as Matrix Metalloproteinases (MMPs). This paper aims to estimate the salivary levels of MMP-8 in dental caries and also to asses the various risk factors that contribute to the formation of dental caries. Material and methods A random sample of 75 adults aged 18-35 were included and categorized based on the number of caries lesions (MCL). Standard clinical examinations were performed, and stimulated saliva was collected and analyzed for concentrat…
A clinical study of the effect of calcium sodium phosphosilicate on dentin hypersensitivity
2012
Objective: Dentinal hypersensitivity is a commonly encountered problem with varied treatment options for its management. A large number of home use products have been tested and used for the management of dentinal hypersensitivity. This 8 week clinical trial investigates the temporal efficacy of commercially available calcium sodium phosphosilicate containing toothpaste in comparison to a potassium nitrate containing toothpaste. Methods: A total 20 subjects between the ages of 18 to 65 years were screened for a visual analogue score (VAS) for sensitivity of 5 or more by testing with a cold stimulus and randomly divided into test and positive control groups. Baseline sensitivity VAS scores t…
Evaluating the statistical methodology of randomized trials on dentin hypersensitivity management
2017
The present study aimed to evaluate the characteristics and quality of statistical methodology used in clinical studies on dentin hypersensitivity management. An electronic search was performed for data published from 2009 to 2014 by using PubMed, Ovid/MEDLINE, and Cochrane Library databases. The primary search terms were used in combination. Eligibility criteria included randomized clinical trials that evaluated the efficacy of desensitizing agents in terms of reducing dentin hypersensitivity. A total of 40 studies were considered eligible for assessment of quality statistical methodology. The four main concerns identified were i) use of nonparametric tests in the presence of large samples…
