A novel digital approach for fixed full-mouth implant-supported rehabilitations : a case report

2020

Successful rehabilitation of a patient's entire dentition with implant-supported fixed prostheses requires restoration of function, esthetics and comfort. To achieve this goal, the clinician and laboratory technician must work in concert with one another to navigate the multiple steps from the patient's initial evaluation to delivery of the final prostheses. Key to this is the ability of the clinician to provide the technician with detailed information regarding the patient's extra- and intraoral characteristics in a manner that can be easily and accurately transferred to the lab bench where it then serves as the foundation for reconstruction of the dentition. In recent years, the impressiv…

Prevalence and characterization of maxillary sinus septa in a brazilian population

2019

Background The aim of this study was to assess the anatomic aspects of the maxillary sinus septa, by means of computed tomography images, in a Brazilian population. The results might be of clinical significance in sinus lift surgery planning. Material and methods In the study, 123 computed tomographs obtained from a private radiology clinic were used. They were analyzed by a single, trained and calibrated observer in order to evaluate the presence, quantity, localizations, dimensions, orientations and different characteristics in dentate, partially edentulous and completely edentulous individuals of the sinus septa. Results Of the individuals analyzed, 26% had a septum in the maxillary sinu…

Interdisciplinary approach for the treatment of periodontally compromised malpositioned anterior teeth: a case report

2009

Today many adult patients with periodontal disease demonstrate positioning of teeth that comprise their ability for proper mechanical tooth cleaning of approximal tooth surfaces. With adequate combined periodontal-orthodontic treatment it is possible to re-establish a healthy and well-functioning dentition. However, while orthodontic treatment can realign periodontally affected teeth, esthetic appearance may be compromised by gingival recession due to alveolar bone dehiscences or fenestrations in combination with a thin gingival biotype. This article reports an interdisciplinary (periodontic, orthodontic, restorative) approach for the treatment of a periodontally compromised patient with an…

Maximum occlusal bite force in pre-school children with different occlusal patterns

2018

Background This study was carried out to record maximum occlusal bite force (MOBF) in pre-school children with different occlusal patterns. Material and Methods A randomly selected sample of 1085 kindergarten children in primary dentition stage were selected. The age of subjects ranged between 3-6 years (averaged 4.90 ± 0.86 years). The subjects were divided into 3 groups according to molar relationship; flush terminal (n=335; 165 males and 170 females), distal step (n=450; 200 males and 250 females), mesial step (n=300; 150 males and 150 females) molar relationship. Clinical examination involved the record of molar relationship, overjet, overbite and the presence of wearing facets. Occlusa…

Dental caries experience, tooth surface distribution and associated factors in 6- and 13- year- old school children from Davangere, India

2012

Objectives: The objective of the present study was to investigate the caries experience and patterns in a sample of 6- and 13- year old school children and to estimate the contributing roles of the likely risk indicators. Study design: Data were obtained from 400 (196, 6-year old and 204, 13-year old) school children. A questionnaire was sent to the children parents to measure socioeconomic, socio-demographic, and behavioral variables. Dental caries detection was performed according to the World Health Organization criteria (dmft and DMFT). The mean dmft/DMFT scores were analysed either as a continuous (calculating means and standard deviations) or as a categorical variable (providing propo…

Study of the influence of crossbite on the size of the apical area in a child population by analyzing panoramic X-ray

2018

The apical area is the space in the maxillary bones that contains teeth during formation and is subsequently occupied by the apices of the permanent teeth. Its dimensions are easy to perceive and determine by observing a panoramic X-ray. Our objective was to analyze the influence of crossbite on the size of the anterior and mesial apical area in Caucasian children. Based on the ortopantomograph of 353 patients in mixed dentition and crossbite, the sizes of the apical areas of the four hemiarches were studied using the Tps Dig Version 2® computer program. These data were subjected to statistical analysis using the SPSS 22.0 for Windows program and applying the methods of descriptive statisti…

Prevalence of impacted and supernumerary teeth in the North Indian population

2014

Objective: Dental impaction is a very frequent problem. Supernumerary teeth, or hyperdontia, are the presence of additional teeth to the normal series in the either of the dentition. The presence of impacted and/or supernumerary teeth can cause various complications. The objective of the present study was to determine the prevalence of impacted and supernumerary teeth in the North Indian population. Study Design: The panoramic radiographic records of 4750 patients attending the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Jodhpur Dental College General Hospital between September 2008 to December 2012 were examined for this retrospective study. The ages of the patients ranged from 8 to 72 year…

Double talon cusps on supernumerary tooth fused to maxillary central incisor: review of literature and report of case

2014

Human tooth development is a continuous process begin at the sixth weeks in utero and extends to about sixth months after birth for the primary dentition and from sixteenth week in utero to late adolescence for permanent dentition. There is no other organ of the human body which takes so long to attain its ultimate morphology as dentition. Several physiologic growth processes participate in the progressive development of the teeth including: initiation, proliferation, histodifferentiation, morphodifferentiation, apposition, calcification, and eruption. Aberrations in different stages of tooth development can result in unique manifestations both in primary and permanent dentitions. The fact …

Active tactile sensibility of three-unit implant-supported FPDs versus natural dentition

2019

Background Splinting of the implants might improve the active tactile sensibility (ATS) of the pontic area due to cumulative effect of Osseo perception of two retainers; on the other hand, due to the lack of any supporting implant in the axis of occlusal force for the pontic area, ATS might be lower for this portion of FPDs. we evaluated the active tactile sensibility of natural teeth and three-unit implant-supported FPDs. Material and methods The ATS of posterior 3-unit implant-supported FPD and contralateral teeth was measured in 50 patients, in a random order blinded to patients and assessor, carried out at two sessions. Based on the experimental range of 0 to 70 um, the sigmoid shape of…

The deciduous dentition ofPercrocuta Kretzoi and the diphyletic origin of the hyaenas (Carnivora, Mammalia)

1983
