Negotiation of expertise and multifunctionality : PowerPoint presentations as interactional activity types in workplace meetings

This article investigates exchanges between the presenter and another participant within PowerPoint presentations in workplace meetings. Using ethnomethodological conversation analysis as a method, it examines 1) how participants orient to each other's expertise, 2) what is accomplished through the exchange and 3) how the PowerPoint slide is interwoven with the process. The results show how the exchanges establish the presentation as information delivery in which the complexity of professional knowledge is displayed and negotiated. Even if Leibniz didn’t have the opportunity to actually conceive an explicit modal logic system, remains the fact that he had worked out a modal metaphysics, of which the inaugural act, in his Elementa juris naturalis (c. 1671) was an obvious reference to the Apulean square of opposition. Later, scholars acknowledged in this passage probably one of the first sketch of deontic logic of norms. His modal metaphysics rather deals with the so-called alethic modalities, sometimes expounded through a language such as R.M. Eight Questions for the Speakers

In this paper, we raise a few questions for Bartosz Brozek, Monica Bucciarelli and Philip Johnson-Laird. The questions we ask to Bucciarelli and Johnson-Laird concern the nature of the “sense of correctness” which is at the heart of our normative judgments and reasoning, and the status of the laws of logic relating to mental models. Our questions to Brozek concern the distinction he traces between rudimentary and abstract rules, the role of language in normative behaviour, and the role of mental simulation in the understanding of abstract rules.

In questo saggio John Searle propone una concezione naturalizzata del linguaggio e dei rapporti tra linguaggio e realtà sociale.
