Multi-sited and historically layered language policy construction: parliamentary debate on the Finnish constitutional bilingualism in 1919

2018

In this article, we analyse the construction of Finnish constitutional bilingualism in the aftermath of gaining independence, a traumatic civil war and during the construction of a new republican polity based on regulated parliamentarism in 1917–1919. We take a multi-sited and historically informed approach to the dynamics of political discourse at the parliamentary level, analysing the discursive cycles of people, nationality and nation. We demonstrate the interconnectedness of language policy discourses with historically and spatially multi-sited and highly complex contexts and show how language policy confrontations can add important dimensions to increase our understanding of power stru…

Defensive and Defective Stance in Translation and Translation Criticism in Latvia between the Wars (1918–1940)

2016

Abstract Latvia's independence period saw translations on a massive scale. The range of source languages was growing, with English overtaking German (German was also the main intermediary language). The literature translated was also extremely varied, as was quality. The choice of works to be translated was in the hands of translators and publishers, who thought of marketing interests. The agents of translation (translators and publishers) pursued mainly defective stance in translation, while criticism staunchly supported defensive stance. Translations always numerically surpassed native production in the domain of novels. The variety of translation scene came to an abrupt end with the sovi…

Aksjologiczne podstawy samorządu terytorialnego

2021

Long-lasting rewarding effects of morphine induced by drug primings.

2005

To evaluate the persistence of the rewarding effects of morphine, the acquisition, maintenance, extinction and reinstatement of a conditioned place preference (CPP) was assessed in OF1 mice. In Experiment 1, the persistence of morphine-induced CPP was evaluated weekly. Mice showed CPP after four sessions of conditioning with 5, 10, 20 and 40 mg/kg of morphine, which lasted 0, 1, 2 and 4 weeks, respectively. In Experiment 2, after four sessions of conditioning with 40 mg/kg of morphine, the effects of four schedules of extinction differing in the time interval (2, 4, 6 or 8 weeks) between sessions were evaluated. CPP was no longer evident after 8 weeks for the groups examined each 2 or 8 wee…

Group interaction styles in a virtual context: The effects on group outcomes

2010

The influence of communication and information technologies (TICs) on group functioning and group outcomes is an important topic. Interdependent group work implies the need to communicate in order to share information and knowledge related to the task. The importance of this group interaction in the group functioning and outcomes stands out. In this sense, a line of investigation has arisen to study the role of interaction styles in the relationship between communication technology and group outcomes, as some functional or dysfunctional outputs depend on group interaction styles. From this perspective, the objective of this study is twofold: (1) to analyze the group interaction styles in vi…

Coping with the costs of car dependency : A system of expedients used by low-income households on the outskirts of Dijon and Paris

2018

International audience; Living on low incomes and in a car-dependent area is often interpreted as a double burden for households, even if the two characteristics are often interdependent. While their capacity for mobility is lower, low-income households in outer suburban areas are nonetheless mobile. Their capacities in this domain should not be underestimated or overlooked. They can command a set of alternative practices or expedients to deal with car-related economic stress by a set of resources derived essentially from spatial proximity. This article aims to present and analyse the diversity of these expedients for the case of outer suburban areas around Paris and Dijon. The analysis of …

Measurement of the Generalized Polarizabilities of the Proton at Intermediate $Q^2$

2021

Background: Generalized polarizabilities (GPs) are important observables to describe the nucleon structure, and measurements of these observables are still scarce. Purpose: This paper presents details of a virtual Compton scattering (VCS) experiment, performed at the A1 setup at the Mainz Microtron by studying the $e p \to e p \gamma$ reaction. The article focuses on selected aspects of the analysis. Method: The experiment extracted the $P_{LL} -P_{TT} / \epsilon$ and $P_{LT}$ structure functions, as well as the electric and magnetic GPs of the proton, at three new values of the four-momentum transfer squared $Q^2$: 0.10, 0.20 and 0.45 GeV$^2$. Results: We emphasize the importance of the ca…

Comparison of line-by-line and band models of near-IR methane absorption applied to outer planet atmospheres

2012

Import OPTIWOS; International audience; Recent improvements in high spectral resolution measurements of methane absorption at wavenumbers between 4800 cm(-1) and 7919 cm(-1) have greatly increased the number of lines with known lower state energies, the number of weak lines, and the number of lines observed at low temperatures (Campargue, A., Wang, L, Kassi, S., Masat, M., Votava, O. ECONOMIC ACTIVITY, CREDIT MARKET CONDITIONS, AND THE HOUSING MARKET

2017

In this paper, we assess the characteristics of the housing market and its main determinants. Using data for 20 industrial countries over the period 1970Q1–2012Q2 and a discrete-time Weibull duration model, we find that the likelihood of the end of a housing boom or a housing bust increases over time. Additionally, we show that the different phases of the housing market cycle are strongly dependent on the economic activity, but credit market conditions are particularly important in the case of housing booms. The empirical findings also indicate that although housing booms have similar lengths in European and non-European countries, housing busts are typically shorter in European countries. …
