Openness and Communication Effects on Relationship Satisfaction in Women Experiencing Infertility or Miscarriage: A Dyadic Approach.

2020

Openness and communication between partners are key elements of dyadic coping with stress. Our main research question is: what is the impact of these factors on relational satisfaction in spouses struggling with infertility or miscarriage? In the current study, by applying the actor&ndash

Intracellular accumulation of l-Arg, kinetics of transport, and potassium leak conductance in oocytes from Xenopus laevis expressing hCAT-1, hCAT-2A,…

2004

AbstractCationic amino acid transporters play an important role in the intracellular supply of l-Arg and the generation of nitric oxide. Since the transport of l-Arg is voltage-dependent, we aimed at determining the intracellular l-Arg concentration and describing the transport of l-Arg in terms of Michaelis–Menten kinetics, taking into account membrane voltage. The human isoforms of the cationic amino acid transporters, hCAT-1, hCAT-2A, and hCAT-2B, were expressed in oocytes from Xenopus laevis and studied with the voltage clamp technique and in tracer experiments. We found that l-Arg was concentrated intracellularly by all hCAT isoforms and that influx and efflux, in the steady state of e…

3-4 gadīgu bērnu pašapkalpošanās sekmēšana pirmsskolas izglītības iestādē

2020

Bakalaura darba temats – 3-4 gadīgu bērnu pašapkalpošanās sekmēšana pirmsskolas izglītības iestādē Darba autors – Dārta Tomsone. Darba vadītājs- Rasma Purmale. Pētījuma mērķis: izpētīt 3-4 gadīgu bērnu pašapkalpošanās sekmēšanas pirmsskolas izglītības iestādē iespējas. Darbā tiks detalizētāk skatīta pašapkalpošanās prasmju ietekme uz bērnu personības attīstību, pētīti pašapkalpošanās prasmju apguves pamatnosacījumi tieši 3-4 gadus veciem bērniem pirmsskolā uzsverot arī vecāku būtisko lomu bērnu pašapkalpošanās prasmju attīstības procesā. Bakalaura darbs sastāv no divām daļām: teorētiskās un praktiskā pētījuma. Teorētiskā daļa tika izstrādāta analizējot pašapkalpošanās attīstības nosacījumus…

Multi-particle azimuthal correlations in p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider

2014

Measurements of multi-particle azimuthal correlations (cumulants) for charged particles in p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions are presented. They help address the question of whether there is evidence for global, flow-like, azimuthal correlations in the p-Pb system. Comparisons are made to measurements from the larger Pb-Pb system, where such evidence is established. In particular, the second harmonic two-particle cumulants are found to decrease with multiplicity, characteristic of a dominance of few-particle correlations in p-Pb collisions. However, when a $|\Delta \eta|$ gap is placed to suppress such correlations, the two-particle cumulants begin to rise at high-multiplicity, indicating the prese…

Two Paths to Logical Consequence: Pieri and the Peano School

2021

This chapter1 has two main goals. First, it will explore the “negative” avenue leading from the concepts of independence and consistency to that of logical consequence.

A physical activity program dedicated to adolescents

2014

Adolescence is a life stage in which the development of individuality and self-identity occurs. The recent study of the SIP evaluated the life style in adolescents, highlighting the low participation to continuative sports programs and the high incidence to sports drop out, interesting more than 30% of adolescents. These problems are partially linked to low compliance of adolescents to coaches training, partially to the request of a sport close to adolescents requirements. However sports participation is beneficial for physical and psychological development of adolescents. Sports programs promote responsible social behaviours and greater academic success, confidence in personal physical abi…

Designing Outcome-Based Performance Management Systems to Assess Policies Impacting on Caesarean Section Rate: An Analysis of the Sicilian Maternity …

2017

The reduction in Caesarean sections (CSs) is widely considered a priority in the public decision makers agenda. Though the World Health Organisation has strongly encouraged countries to implement policies to reduce CSs to 10–15%, after almost thirty years this goal appears still far from its achievement. The literature depicts CS as a multifaceted phenomenon whose causes involve different factors, ranging from the patient sphere to the health care level of services provided, and the societal preference of CS practice. Policy makers aiming to standardise cares and to reduce CSs often implement maternity pathways (MP). By investigating the MP introduced in the Sicilian region, the authors hig…

Pressure dependence of the low-frequency dielectric constant of KNbO_3

1997

The effect of pressure on the low-frequency dielectric constant, $\epsilon_0$, of single crystals of KNbO_3 is investigated by means of capacitance measurements. The dielectric constant increases with pressure up to 22.5 kbar, where it exhibits a large value ($\epsilon_0$ = 5000), and then decreases. This change in its behaviour is related to a phase transition induced by pressure. On decompression, the samples do not revert back to the ambient pressure phase.

Descartes on Corporeal Substances

2015

I defend in this paper the following two theses: first, that Descartes was a Pluralist as regards extended substances, that is, that for him the extended world includes a plurality of bodies, including ordinary objects, each of which may be adequately described as a substance; and that for him the notion of substance is a rather slim notion, making no specific requirements as regards individuation or persistence conditions, and determining therefore no strict constraints on the kind of material objects that may count as substances. In short, I will be arguing for a certain view concerning the extension of the phrase ‘extended substance’ by defending a specific view of what ‘substance’ means…

Patterns of poverty among elderly Americans: a Latent Class Markov Model

2017

ABSTRACTThis article studies poverty persistence and the role of social security programmes on poverty among elderly in the US. We use a Latent Markov model to disentangle unobserved heterogeneity and state dependence. Because of its dynamic nature, unobserved heterogeneity is modelled to vary over time. This allows to capture different latent states of poverty that change over time. Result indicates the existence of three unobserved types evolving over time according to their propensity to be poor. Moreover, a strong persistence in poverty especially for women, individuals living alone and ethnic minorities is found. Finally, the estimates indicate that giving social assistance tends to re…
