Pressure-Induced Hexagonal to Monoclinic Phase Transition of Partially Hydrated CePO4
2019
We present a study of the pressure dependence of the structure of partially hydrated hexagonal CePO 4 up to 21 GPa using synchrotron powder X-ray diffraction. At a pressure of 10 GPa, a second-order structural phase transition is observed, associated with a novel polymorph. The previously unknown high-pressure phase has a monoclinic structure with a similar atomic arrangement as the low-pressure phase, but with reduced symmetry, belonging to space group C2. Group-subgroup relations hold for the space symmetry groups of both structures. There is no detectable volume discontinuity at the phase transition. Here we provide structural information on the new phase and determine the axial compress…
Bayesian inference of the fluctuating proton shape
2022
Using Bayesian inference, we determine probabilistic constraints on the parameters describing the fluctuating structure of protons at high energy. We employ the color glass condensate framework supplemented with a model for the spatial structure of the proton, along with experimental data from the ZEUS and H1 Collaborations on coherent and incoherent diffractive $\mathrm{J}/\psi$ production in e+p collisions at HERA. This data is found to constrain most model parameters well. This work sets the stage for future global analyses, including experimental data from e+p, p+p, and p+A collisions, to constrain the fluctuating structure of nucleons along with properties of the final state.
Frequency Dependence of the Orientational Freezing in(KBr)1−x(KCN)x
1982
Dielectric, ultrasonic, and neutron-scattering measurements in ${(\mathrm{KBr})}_{1\ensuremath{-}x}{(\mathrm{KCN})}_{x}$ are reported for concentrations $x$ ranging from 0.01 to 0.5. The dipolar and the quadrupolar susceptibilities exhibit frequency- and concentration-dependent cusps showing that the freezing process into an orientational glass state is a relaxational phenomenon.
Existence and asymptotic properties for quasilinear elliptic equations with gradient dependence
2016
Abstract The paper focuses on a Dirichlet problem driven by the ( p , q ) -Laplacian containing a parameter μ > 0 in the principal part of the elliptic equation and a (convection) term fully depending on the solution and its gradient. Existence of solutions, uniqueness, a priori estimates, and asymptotic properties as μ → 0 and μ → ∞ are established under suitable conditions.
Elliptic problems with convection terms in Orlicz spaces
2021
Abstract The existence of a solution to a Dirichlet problem, for a class of nonlinear elliptic equations, with a convection term, is established. The main novelties of the paper stand on general growth conditions on the gradient variable, and on minimal assumptions on Ω. The approach is based on the method of sub and supersolutions. The solution is a zero of an auxiliary pseudomonotone operator build via truncation techniques. We present also some examples in which we highlight the generality of our growth conditions.
Some properties of vertex-oblique graphs
2016
The type t G ( v ) of a vertex v ? V ( G ) is the ordered degree-sequence ( d 1 , ? , d d G ( v ) ) of the vertices adjacent with v , where d 1 ? ? ? d d G ( v ) . A graph G is called vertex-oblique if it contains no two vertices of the same type. In this paper we show that for reals a , b the class of vertex-oblique graphs G for which | E ( G ) | ? a | V ( G ) | + b holds is finite when a ? 1 and infinite when a ? 2 . Apart from one missing interval, it solves the following problem posed by Schreyer et?al. (2007): How many graphs of bounded average degree are vertex-oblique? Furthermore we obtain the tight upper bound on the independence and clique numbers of vertex-oblique graphs as a fun…
