Music lessons improve auditory perceptual and cognitive performance in deaf children

Despite advanced technologies in auditory rehabilitation of profound deafness, deaf children often exhibit delayed cognitive and linguistic development and auditory training remains a crucial element of their education. In the present cross-sectional study, we assess whether music would be a relevant tool for deaf children rehabilitation. Socioeconomic Environment and Survival in Patients with Digestive Cancers: A French Population-Based Study

Simple Summary Studies investigating the social gradient in digestive cancer survival are scarce, and the statistical methods used do not always consider important assumptions in survival analysis for adequate assessment. Using an ecological index (European Deprivation Index), we found a negative impact of social environment in digestive cancers net survival (especially for esophagus, stomach, bile ducts among females; colon and rectum for both sexes) and provided insight into how this social gradient in cancer survival builds up, and at what time of follow-up it appears. Abstract Aim This study investigated how material deprivation in Italy influences the stage of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) at diagnosis and the chance of cure. Methods 4114 patients from the Italian Liver Cancer database consecutively diagnosed with HCC between January 2008 and December 2018 were analysed about severe material deprivation (SMD) rate tertiles of the region of birth and region of managing hospitals, according to the European Statistics on Income and Living Conditions. Chemical alarm signals in fish are passively released into the water from ruptured epidermal cells, and induce instant fright responses in conspecifics. Fish also display alarm responses to injured heterospecific skin, as well as to scent of piscivorous predators that have ingested prey. Characterization of the transporterB0AT3 (Slc6a17) in the rodent central nervous system.

Abstract Background The vesicular B0AT3 transporter (SLC6A17), one of the members of the SLC6 family, is a transporter for neutral amino acids and is exclusively expressed in brain. Here we provide a comprehensive expression profile of B0AT3 in mouse brain using in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry. Results We confirmed previous expression data from rat brain and used a novel custom made antibody to obtain detailed co-labelling with several cell type specific markers.
