RILIEVO FOTOGRAMMETRICO E ANALISI CFD DI COPPIE GENOA RANDA E CONFRONTO TRA FLYING SHAPE E DESIGN SHAPE

2011

Design of Am-Be neutron irradiator by Monte Carlo simulation

2009

Neutron irradiator facilities with Am-Be sources are worldwide available in order to perform neutron activation analysis (NAA), to investigate materials in different research areas or to test and calibrate neutron detectors and dosemeters. The use of a neutron irradiator is advantageous because have a very stable neutron flux, even it is many orders of magnitude lower than the one of a nuclear reactor or a particle accelerator. Many of irradiators are realized with neutron sources located at fixed positions and accordingly the characteristics of neutron spectrum previously assessed do not change [1]. However, an interesting chance is to have a modular facility, capable of varying conditions…

Photoelectrocatalytic reactors and light sources

2023

Photoelectrocatalysis (PEC) couples electrochemical methods with photocatalysis (PC) to enhance the separation of the photoproduced electron and hole pairs at semiconductor active surface, thus increasing the photocatalytic efficiency. PEC technology is considered one of the most promising method for processes as water treatment, fuel generation, and PEC sensing. This chapter try to link fundamental research and practical applications in photoelectrochemical engineering including reactors design strategies in different scales.

CFD analysis of the fluid flow behavior in a reverse electrodialysis stack

2012

Salinity Gradient Power by Reverse Electrodialysis (SGP-RE) technology allows the production of electricity from the different chemical potentials of two differently concentrated salty solutions flowing in alternate channels suitably separated by selective ion exchange membranes. In SGP-RE, as well as in conventional ElectroDialysis (ED) technology, the process performance dramatically depends on the stack geometry and the internal fluid dynamics conditions: optimizing the system geometry in order to guarantee lower pressure drops (DP) and uniform flow rates distribution within the channels is a topic of primary importance. Although literature studies on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) a…

A combined CWT-DWT method using model-based design simulator for partial discharges online detection

2009

The suppression of noises is fundamental in onsite Partial Discharge (PD) measurements. For this purpose, the wavelet transform analysis method has been developed and it is a powerful tool for processing the transient and suddenly changing signals. As the wavelet transform possesses the properties of multi-scale analysis and time-frequency domain localization, it is also particularly suitable to process the suddenly changing signals of the partial discharge pulse (PD). In this paper, an improved Wavelet denoising method developed by a model-based design software is presented. Simulations are provided as well as some results obtained during laboratory experiment and on-line PD measurements. …

Constrained Robust MultiObjective Optimization for Reactive Design in Distribution Systems

2006

This paper presents a new formulation including robustness of solution of constrained multiobjective design or reactive power compensation. The algorithm used for optimization is the NSGA-II (Non dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II) with a special crowded comparison operator for constraints handling. The need for including the issue of robustness of solutions derives from the simple observation that loads are uncertain in distribution systems and their estimation is often affected by errors. In design problems it is desirable to consider the loads with a certain range of variation. In this paper the NSGA-II algorithm is applied to efficiently solve the issue and the solutions attained co…

Revealing Transmit Diversity Mechanisms in Commercial IEEE 802.11 Cards

2008

Service differentiation in WLAN has been traditionally faced at the MAC layer. However, some PHY layer parameters, such as the transmission power, the antenna, and the modulation/coding scheme, have a deep impact on network performance. Since the criterion for selecting these parameters is left to the vendor specific implementations, the performance spread of most experimental results about 802.11 WLAN could be affected by vendor proprietary schemes. The focus of this paper is an experimental analysis of the undisclosed antenna diversity mechanisms employed by some widely used cards (namely, the Atheros and Intel based cards), and a thorough understanding of the optimization goals which gui…

Cross-Technology WiFi/ZigBee Communications: Dealing With Channel Insertions and Deletions

2016

In this letter, we show how cross-technology interference can be exploited to set up a low-rate bidirectional communication channel between heterogeneous WiFi and ZigBee networks. Because of the environment noise and receivers' implementation, the cross-technology channel can be severely affected by insertions and deletions of symbols, whose effects need to be taken into account by the coding scheme and communication protocol.
