From A Medial Surface To A Mesh

Medial surfaces are well-known and interesting surface skeletons. As such, they can describe the topology and the geometry of a 3D closed object. The link between an object and its medial surface is also intuitively understood by people. We want to exploit such skeletons to use them in applications like shape creation and shape deformation. For this purpose, we need to define medial surfaces as Shape Representation Models (SRMs). One of the very first task of a SRM is to offer a visualization of the shape it describes. On harmonic and biharmonic Bézier surfaces

We present a new method of surface generation from prescribed boundaries based on the elliptic partial differential operators. In particular, we focus on the study of the so-called harmonic and biharmonic Bezier surfaces. The main result we report here is that any biharmonic Bezier surface is fully determined by the boundary control points. We compare the new method, by way of practical examples, with some related methods such as surfaces generation using discretisation masks and functional minimisations.

Parametric Design of Sailing Hull Shapes

The author presents an original algorithm aimed at automatically generating the hull shape of a sailing yacht starting from an initial set of parameters. The procedure consists of two steps. First one keel line and a Designed Water Line (DWL in the following) are faired according to a set of parameters, say length of water line, canoe body draft, stem angle and some adimensional coefficients. Fashion versus perception: the impact of surface lightness on the perceived dimensions of interior space.

Objectives: We compare expert opinion with perceptual judgment regarding the influence of color on the perceived height and width of interior rooms. Background: We hypothesize that contrary to popular belief, ceiling and wall lightness have additive effects on perceived height, whereas the lightness contrast between these surfaces is less important. The limit analysis of indefinite plates resting on a continuous elastoplastic medium and subjected to a load distributed over a partial surface with a circular boundary yields the fundamental equation governing the problem. Minimum conditions are set and the solution that supplies the collapse load of the plate-soil system is found by variational calculus.

PURPOSE To evaluate the use of the absorbed depth-dose as a surrogate of the half-value layer in the calibration of a high-dose-rate electronic brachytherapy (eBT) equipment. The effect of the manufacturing tolerances and the absorbed depth-dose measurement uncertainties in the calibration process are also addressed. Experimental research regarding the study of surface quality of aluminum alloys processed through milling

The aim of this paper is to present the necessary steps to conduct a design of experiment with application on the aluminum alloy surface quality obtained by end-milling process. The machined surface quality is influenced by the cutting process parameters, and especially by their variation. The research methods used in this paper are the Taguchi method - to determine the cutting parameters influence, on the surface quality, and the full factorial design of experiment to confirm the results obtained by Taguchi’s method and to determine the percentage of the parameters influence involved in the process.

MESH COMPARISON USING ATTRIBUTE DEVIATION METRIC

We propose a mesh comparison method using a new attribute deviation metric. The considered meshes contain geometrical and appearance attributes (material color, texture, temperature, etc.). The proposed deviation metric computes local differences between the attributes of two meshes. A mesh comparison assessment can be done easily and quickly using this metric. The techniques proposed are applicable in a number of ways, e.g. 3D matching and registration, and the example described in the paper is the simplification of a surface by iteratively reducing its complexity according to an error metric. A general 4th-order PDE method to generate Bézier surfaces from the boundary

In this paper we present a method for generating Bezier surfaces from the boundary information based on a general 4th-order PDE. This is a generalisation of our previous work on harmonic and biharmonic Bezier surfaces whereby we studied the Bezier solutions for Laplace and the standard biharmonic equation, respectively. Here we study the Bezier solutions of the Euler-Lagrange equation associated with the most general quadratic functional. We show that there is a large class of fourth-order operators for which Bezier solutions exist and hence we show that such operators can be utilised to generate Bezier surfaces from the boundary information.
