In vitro optical performance of a new aberration-free intraocular lens
2014
To assess the optical performance of the new EnVista intraocular lens (IOL). Four aspheric IOLs were evaluated; the new EnVista is one amoung them. This IOL, similarly to the Z-Flex HB and the Bi-Flex 1.8 667AB ones, has a neutral aspheric design, whereas the fourth IOL under test (AcrySof IQ IOL SN60WF) presents a negative spherical aberration (SA). The IOL’s aberration patterns were measured in vitro, by setting them up on an optical bench. From these aberration-pattern data, the modulation transfer function (MTF), the average modulation values, and the points spread function (PSF) were calculated. Furthermore, in order to assess the potential optical quality that these IOLs would yield o…
Optical quality comparison between 2 collagen copolymer posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens designs
2014
Purpose To compare the optical quality in vitro of 2 designs of the Visian Implantable Collamer Lens phakic intraocular lens (pIOL) for different powers and optical apertures. Setting University of Valencia, Valencia, Spain. Design Experimental study. Methods The Nimo TR1504 deflectometry device was used to measure the V4c pIOL, which has a smaller optic diameter, and the V5 pIOL, which has a larger optic diameter. The pIOLs were measured for −3.00 diopters (D), −6.00 D, −9.50 D, and −10.50 D at different optical apertures from 3.00 to 6.00 mm depending on the IOL power and model. The root mean square of higher-order aberrations (RMS HOAs) was analyzed. The Strehl ratio, point-spread functi…
In vitro optical performance of nonrotational symmetric and refractive-diffractive aspheric multifocal intraocular lenses: impact of tilt and decentr…
2012
Purpose To evaluate the optical quality of Acrysof Restor SN6AD1 refractive–diffractive +3.00 D and Lentis Mplus LS-312 nonrotational symmetric +3.00 D aspheric multifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) and analyze the effect of tilt and decentration. Setting University of Valencia, Valencia, and University of Murcia, Murcia, Spain. Design Experimental study. Methods An artificial model eye was used to measure wavefront aberrations of both IOL models. The modulation transfer function (MTF) and point-spread function (PSF) were calculated for a 5.0 mm pupil and under 5 situations: centered, 0.2 mm and 0.4 mm decentered, and 2 degrees and 4 degrees tilted. Results The refractive–diffractive IOL had…
Efficient analysis of in-line waveguide filters and frequency-selective surfaces with stepped holes
2003
This paper presents a novel method for the analysis of large classes of microwave and mm-wave passive components, including in-line waveguide filters, single- and multi-layer frequency selective surfaces, and open-ended waveguide array antennas. This method is based on the segmentation technique, which permits us to reduce complex components to cascaded waveguide step discontinuities, which are separately characterized through their generalized impedance matrices, as calculated by the integral equation (IE) technique and the boundary integral-resonant mode expansion (BI-RME) method. Some examples demonstrate the flexibility and efficiency of the IE/BI-RME method, and its utility in investig…
Performance of electro-optical plasmonic ring resonators at telecom wavelengths
2012
International audience; In this work we report on the characteristics of an electro-optical dielectric-loaded surface plasmon polariton waveguide ring resonator. By doping the dielectric host matrix with an electro-optical material and designing an appropriate set of planar electrodes, we measured a 16% relative change of transmission upon application of a controlled electric field. We have analyzed the temporal response of the device and conclude that electrostriction of the host matrix is playing a dominating role in the transmission response.
Efficient analysis of waveguide filters by the integral equation technique and the BI-RME method
2003
This paper presents the study of rectangular waveguide filters with rounded corners in the cross-section of the waveguides. These components are suitable for low-cost mass production and can be rigorously analyzed by efficient CAD tools. The analysis approach described in this paper is based on the integral equation technique in conjunction with the boundary integral-resonant mode expansion method. Two representative examples are also reported.
EM Based Synthesis and Design of Bandpass Waveguide Filters Including Manufacturing Effects with FEST3D
2011
This article aims at the industry interest on automated design tools that are able to take into account manufacturing effects. First, an efficient design strategy for bandpass waveguide filters including the rounded corners arising from low-cost manufacturing procedures is presented. This technique is based on a recent enhanced prototype and synthesis methodology able to consider the real structure parts. Using the resulting electromagnetic (EM)-based synthesis technique, an excellent structure is extracted, which requires, at most, only a slight final EM optimization. Second, this article presents analytical expressions providing error estimates for the different filter performances in ter…
Performance analysis and comparison of symmetrical and asymmetrical configurations of evanescent mode ridge waveguide filters
2009
[1] In this paper, the trade-offs between out-of-band performance, filter length, power-handling capability, and insertion loss of both symmetrical and asymmetrical evanescent mode ridge rectangular waveguide filters are investigated. As a result, clear design methodologies for optimizing such performances are proposed. The developed methodologies are then applied to design several evanescent mode filters, and a complete performance analysis of the symmetrical and asymmetrical structures is performed. From the performance analysis results, the designer can choose the more appropriate filter topology and design strategy to satisfy the prescribed specifications.
Web accessibility for visual disabled: An expert evaluation of the Inclusite® solution
2012
This study analyzes web accessibility problems for people with visual disability and presents the results of testing a prototype of Inclusite® system, an access solution designed to facilitate web navigation for people with visual disability, consisting of a navigation interface through keyboard and speech synthesis. An expert typhlotechnologist conducts a navigation test in three sessions evaluating the prototype positively and suggesting aspects for improvement. The interface provides web access as a service, the access solution is hosted in the website, so that the user can perform navigation using a different computer (not the own) which does not have his usual technical aids, helping t…
Web Monitoring System and Gateway for Serial Communication PLC
2012
Abstract An industrial process requires interacting with the rest of the plant, being able to exchange data with other devices and monitoring systems in order to optimize production, reporting information and providing control capabilities to distant users. Internet, and, especially web browsers are an excellent tool to provide information for remote users, allowing not only monitoring but also controlling the industrial process as an SCADA software or HMI system. The proposed system does not need specific proprietary software and its associated license costs. In this work, a webserver system is implemented under a Freescale microcontroller, acting as a gateway for a simple PLC with single …
