Combining expert knowledge and models in participatory workshops with farmers to design sustainable weed management strategies

2020

International audience; In order to design cropping systems reconciling cropproduction, biodiversity and reduced herbicide use, weorganized participatory workshops with farmers in theChampagne region (North-Eastern France). Methodscombined cropping-system prototyping by farmers, expertopinion and models. In a first meeting, farmers determinedtheir objectives and constraints, and chose areference system existing in one of their farms (oilseedrape/winter wheat/winter wheat/spring barley heavilyinfested by autumnal grass weeds). In a secondmeeting, two sets of prototypes were designed by twoseparate groups, using the Mission Ecophyt’eau® tool(https://ecophytopic.fr/pour-aller-plus-loin/outil-m…

Modular Assembly of Multimodal Imaging Agents through an Inverse Electron Demand Diels–Alder Reaction

2019

International audience; The combination of two imaging probes on a same biomolecule gives access to targeted bimodal imaging agents that can provide more accurate diagnosis, complementary information, or that may be used in different applications, such as PET imaging and fluorescence imagingassisted surgery. In this study, we demonstrate that dichlorotetrazine, a small, commercially available compound, can be used as a modular platform to easily assemble various imaging probes. Doubly-labeled tetrazines can then be conjugated to a protein through a biorthogonal IEDDA reaction. A series of difunctionalized tetrazine compounds containing various chelating agents and fluorescent dyes was synth…

Co-développement d'un modèle d'aide à la décision pour la gestion intégrée de la flore adventice. Méta-modélisation et analyse de sensibilité d'un mo…

2018

The main threat to agricultural crops are weeds with herbicides being the primary cropping management practice. Due to the negative impact of herbicides on health and environment, their use must be reduced. To replace herbicides, numerous cropping practices need to be implemented. This makes weed management more complicated and, together with necessity of scheduling operations at long-term and the multiplicity of cropping system impacts, explains why models are so useful for designing innovative cropping systems. The aim of this thesis was to develop a Decision Support System (DSS) intended for crop advisors to help design cropping systems that are less dependent on herbicides. Our approach…

Co-design and test of biodiversity-based pesticide-free Conservation Agriculture in the long-term CA-SYS platform in France

2022

The French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA) has established an ambitious experimental infrastructure (the CA-SYS platform) in autumn 2018 after 5 years of co-design with farmers, crop advisors and researchers. CA-SYS covers an area of 125ha divided into 42 fields. The originality of CA-SYS is that it is explicitly conceivedfor the design and evaluation of biodiversity-based and pesticide-free agroecological systems across agriculturallyrealistic scales. An agroecological system will comprise a matrix of fields of one (or a few) cropping systems over anumber of years interacting with adjacent semi-natural habitats (hedges, grass margin strips, flower strips). ENGAGED: System design of direct seedings under permanent cover crop without glyphosate

2022

Direct seeding under permanent cover crop (SDCV) corresponds to sow a crop in a multiyear vegetal cover crop(often clover) without soil perturbation. It is an emblematic technique of Conservation Agriculture whose agronomicand environmental interests are multiple because of the special attention paid to soils. However, the issue of weedcontrol and permanent cover crop control is central to SDCV culture systems. The use of non-selective herbicide suchas glyphosate is the most common technical lever for weed and cover crop management. Glyphosate is in the hotseat since the President of France announced its banning from 2023. It becomes necessary to find alternatives for thesustainability of t…

Quantifying cereal-reaping microwear on flint tools : an experimental approach

2016

International audience; From the earliest Neolithic in the Near East to the last Chalcolithic cultures in Western Europe, certain flint tools have been used as sickles to harvest cereals. Such harvesting tools can be identified through use-wear analyses, because cutting herbaceous plants produces specific wear-traces on the working edge of flint blades. The aim of this work is to explore harvesting-driven microwear variability and, more particularly, intensity of use as a governing factor. To achieve this objective, an experiment was designed consisting in the production of flint replicas to be used as harvesting tools, in various controlled conditions. A simple, cost-effective method of qu…

Close-Range Photogrammetric Tools for Epigraphic Surveys

2016

In this article, we present a method to carry out a computerized epigraphic survey of historic stones and their engraved epigraphy. In fact, the preservation of archaeological objects has always been an issue of concern for the research community. On the one hand, the fragility of the objects limits their study. On the other hand, such objects are housed in museums, libraries, and institutions worldwide, locations that significantly limit their accessibility. Different survey methods have been carried out in these attempts to overcome the aforementioned limitations. Among them, the MicMac open source software was used in this work to survey and process the dense correlation of the hieroglyp…
