Exhaled breath analysis for early disease detection may provide a convenient method for painless and non-invasive diagnosis. In this work, a novel, compact and easy-to-use breath analyzer platform with a modular sensing chamber and direct breath sampling unit is presented. The developed analyzer system comprises a compact, low volume, temperature-controlled sensing chamber in three modules that can host any type of resistive gas sensor arrays. Furthermore, in this study three modular breath analyzers are explicitly tested for reproducibility in a real-life breath analysis experiment with several calibration transfer (CT) techniques using transfer samples from the experiment. A hardware skin-segmentation IP for vision based smart ADAS through an FPGA prototyping

International audience; In this paper we presents a platform based design approach for fast HW/SW embedded smart Advanced Driver Assistant System (ADAS) design and prototyping. Then, we share our experience in designing and prototyping a HW/SW vision based smart embedded system as an ADAS that helps to increase the safety of car's drivers. We present a physical prototype of the vision ADAS based on a Zynq FPGA. The system detects the fatigue state of the driver by monitoring the eyes closure and generates a real-time alert. The caramel flavour: impacts of the volatile and the non-volatile fraction on perception

The aim of this thesis was to investigate the impact of the volatile odorant fraction and the non-volatile fraction on the perception of caramel flavour. The first step focused on the analytical characterization of the volatile odorant fraction of caramel using Gas Chromatography coupled to Olfactometry (GC/O), GC/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) and heart-cutting MDGC/MS/O. Results highlighted the presence of more than one hundred compounds and demonstrated the complexity of the caramel volatile fraction. Il saggio illustra l'esperienza didattica di un Laboratorio di Progettazione di primo anno del Corso di Laurea in Architettura della Università di Palermo il cui docente è Michele Sbacchi. Il tema affrontato è il progetto di una casa unifamiliare nella campagna. La didattica è sviluppata in modo da fare scaturire il progetto come un ragionamento a partire dalla osservazione del contesto, nella presupposizione di uno scopo. Lai saglabātu konkurētspēju savā jomā, profesionāļiem ir jāattīsta jomai atbilstošu angļu valodas zināšanu apguve, bet aizvien pieaugošais pieprasījums pēc nozaru angļu valodas apmācībām rada pieprasījumu arī pēc kompetentiem pasniedzējiem un mācību materiāla izstrādātājiem. Šis darbs tika izstrādāts ar mērķi pētīt nozaru angļu valodas mācību materiālu izveides procesu, kā arī, apmācot studentus, radīt oriģinālu mācību materiālu konkrētai Finanšu menedžmenta programmas studentu grupai. Lai izveidotu šo materiālu, tika iegūti kvalitatīvie dati, analizējot nodarbību laikā novērotos procesus. Jaunizveidotais materiāls tika veiksmīgi izmantots praksē.

Computer Vision Interaction for People with Severe Movement Restrictions

In this paper we present the starting point of research in applying humancomputer interaction (HCI) techniques to help people with cerebral palsy to use computers via vision-based interaction. Our work includes the development and improvement of visionbased assistive technology, which was tested in experiments with cerebral palsy users. A brief review of current assistive technologies for severely physically impaired people and an explanation of the developed applications of such technologies are also presented. The final part of the paper describes the experimentation goals, process, and preliminary results. Future work directions are also indicated.
A synthetic hexapeptide (Argireline) with antiwrinkle activity

Botulinum neurotoxins (BoNTs) represent a revolution in cosmetic science because of their remarkable and long-lasting antiwrinkle activity. However, their high neurotoxicity seriously limits their use. Thus, there is a need to design and validate non-toxic molecules that mimic the action of BoNTs. The hexapeptide Ac-EEMQRR-NH2 (coined Argireline) was identified as a result of a rational design programme. Noteworthy, skin topography analysis of an oil/water (O/W) emulsion containing 10% of the hexapeptide on healthy women volunteers reduced wrinkle depth up to 30% upon 30 days treatment.
