A novel approach for analysis of oligonucleotide-cisplatin interactions by continuous elution gel electrophoresis coupled to isotope dilution inducti…
2008
In this work we present a novel approach for in vitro studies of cisplatin interactions with 8-mer oligonucleotides. The approach is based on the recently developed coupling of continuous elution gel electrophoresis (GE) to an inductively coupled plasma-sector field mass spectrometer (ICP-SFMS) with the aim of monitoring the interaction process between this cytostatic drug and the nucleotides. In contrast to existing methods, the electrophoretic separation conditions used here allow both the determination of the reaction kinetics in more detail as well as the observation of dominant intermediates. Two different nucleotides sequences have been investigated for comparison purposes, one contai…
Multiresidue analysis of organic pollutants by in-tube solid phase microextraction coupled to ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-electrospr…
2013
In this work, in-tube solid phase microextraction (IT-SPME) coupling with ultra-high-pressure liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) multiresidue analytical method has been proposed for the first time for on-line enrichment of 9 analytes included in Water Frame Directive 2000/60/EC (WFD). The device was equipped with a GC TRB-5 capillary column, used as pre-concentration loop, and two conventional six-port injection valves. Water sample and desorption solvent volumes were tested. The optimum conditions were 4mL of processed sample followed by elution with 40μL of methanol. The analytes were detected with a mass spectrometer after being ionized positively using an elect…
Application of 252Cf plasma desorption mass spectrometry in dental research
1993
Abstract Topically applied fluorides introduced in dental hygiene products elevate the concentration levels of fluoride in oral fluids and thus also affect chemical reactions of enamel de- and remineralisation. The chemical reactions on the surface of tooth enamel still are a subject of controversy. Here 252 Cf-plasma desorption mass spectrometry and argon ion etching are used to analyse the molecular structure of the upper layes of enamel. The mass spectrum of untreated enamel is characterised by a series of cluster ions containing phosphate. It is evident that under certain conditions the molecular structure of the surface enamel is completely transformed by treatment with fluorides. The …
Assessment of air passive sampling uptakes for volatile organic compounds using VERAM devices
2017
Abstract A calibration chamber has been designed and employed for the simple and easy determination of uptake sampling rate (RS) of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from air using passive samplers. A flow of clean air was continuously spiked, at a constant VOC concentration, by the microinjection of a standard solution by means of a T-type tube. The developed system allowed the complete evaporation at room temperature of the standard solution in acetone and the air concentration of VOCs was easily controlled by the regulation of the clean air flow, the standard solution concentration and its flow. Active sampling was employed for monitoring the true concentration of the evaluated compounds…
Algae - Heavy Metals Biosorbent / Glony - Biosorbent Metali Ciężkich
2013
Abstract The publication is a synthetic collection of information on the sorption properties of marine and freshwater algae. Kinetics and sorption equilibrium of heavy metals in algae-solution system, influence of abiotic factors on the process of sorption and desorption of analytes from biomass are discussed. In paper the results of laboratory tests conducted using different species and types of algae, which purpose was to assess their usefulness as natural sorbents, are described. The conclusions drawn from current research confirm the results from literature.
Preparation and antioxidant activity of Radix Astragali residues extracts rich in calycosin and formononetin
2011
Abstract Radix Astragali is considered an excellent source of Traditional Chinese Medicine and a kind of famous restorative food. To make full usage of Radix Astragali, calycosin and formononetin were enriched through various macroporous resins from its residues, HPD500 resin, compared with other resins, offered the best effectiveness for the enrichment and separation of compounds. 35 °C was selected for its highest adoption capacity during static adsorption process, which can be obtained from adsorption isotherms. And then dynamic adsorption and desorption tests were carried out to optimize the operating parameters. After one run treatment with HPD500 resin, the contents of calycosin and f…
Recent Development in Analytical Methods for Identification of Off-Flavour Compounds
1983
The best resolution of individual off-flavour compounds is achieved by glass or quartz capillary gas chromatography. A special two-column system was used by which simultaneous instrumental detection and sniffing (odour desorption) of odorous compounds could be done. The measuring detectors were flame ionization (FID), electron capture (ECD), flame photometric (FPD) and a mass spectrometer (MS). Structural assignments of the odorous substances were done from MS data and verified by model compounds. Before the GC run the sample was collected at the head of the double column using a cold trap device. The sample for analysis was injected in liquid form or, more efficiently, thermally desorbed f…
Rapid and improved identification of drinking water bacteria using the Drinking Water Library, a dedicated MALDI-TOF MS database.
2021
Abstract According to the European Directives (UE) 2020/2184 and 2009/54/EC, which establishes the sanitary criteria for water intended for human consumption in Europe, water suitable for human consumption must be free of the bacterial indicators Escherichia coli, Clostridium perfringens and Enterococcus spp. Drinking water is also monitored for heterotrophic bacteria, which are not a human health risk, but can serve as an index of bacteriological water quality. Therefore, a rapid, accurate, and cost-effective method for the identification of these colonies would improve our understanding of the culturable bacteria of drinking water and facilitate the task of water management by treatment f…
The preparation and evaluation of core-shell magnetic dummy-template molecularly imprinted polymers for preliminary recognition of the low-mass polyb…
2020
Abstract The design, preparation process, binding abilities, morphological characteristic and prospective field of application of dummy-template magnetic molecularly imprinted polymer (DMMIP) for preliminary recognition of the selected low-mass polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE-47 and PBDE-99) from aquatic environment were investigated. The surface of iron oxide (Fe3O4) nanopowder (50–100 nm particles size) was modified with tetraethoxysilane and next prepared Fe3O4@SiO2 particles were dispersed in anhydrous toluene functionalized by (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane. Finally, MIPs' thin film layer on the surface of Fe3O4@SiO2@NH2 was formed in acetonitrile as a solvent solution, using ethy…
Design, characterization and comparison of materials based on β and γ cyclodextrin covalently connected to microporous silica for environmental analy…
2018
Abstract Determination of organic pollutants in environmental samples presents great difficulties due to the lack of sensitivity and selectivity in many of the existing analytical methods. In this work, the efficiency of materials based on silica structures containing bounded γ-cyclodextrin has been evaluated to determinate phenolic compounds and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in air and water samples, respectively, in comparison with materials made of β-cyclodextrin. According to the results obtained for the material characterization, the new γ-cyclodextrin solid phase does not apparently present any porosity when used in air samples, but it has been shown to work efficiently for the pre…
