The cationic ring-opening copolymerization of 3,3-bis(hydroxymethyl)oxetane (BHMO) with glycidol using different comonomer ratios (BHMO content from 25 to 90%) and BF3OEt2 as an initiator has been studied. Apparent molecular weights of the resulting hyperbranched polyether copolymers ranged from 1400 to 3300 g mol(-1) (PDI: 1.21-1.48; method: SEC, linear PEG standards). Incorporation of both comonomers is evidenced by MALDI-TOF mass spectroscopy. All hyperbranched polyether polyols with high content of primary hydroxyl groups portray good solubility in water, which correlates with an increasing content of glycerol units. In the last decades, the number of allergic patients has increased dramatically. Allergen-specific immunotherapy (SIT) is the only available cause-oriented therapy so far. SIT reduces the allergic symptoms, but also exhibits some disadvantages; that is, it is a long-lasting procedure and severe side effects like anaphylactic shock can occur. In this work, we introduce a method to encapsulate allergens into nanoparticles to avoid severe side effects during SIT. Oxidation of CH4 over Pd supported on TiO2-doped SiO2: Effect of Ti(IV) loading and influence of SO2

Titania-modified silicas with different weight% of TiO2 were prepared by sol-gel method and used as supports for Pd (1 wt%) catalysts. The obtained materials were tested in the oxidation of methane under lean conditions in absence and in presence of SO2. Test reactions were consecutively performed in order to evaluate the thermal stability and poisoning reversibility. Increasing amounts of TiO2 improved the catalytic activity, with an optimum of the performance for 10 wt% TiO2 loading. Abstract Crenate broomrape ( Orobanche crenata ) is a parasitic plant that threatens legume production in Mediterranean areas. Pea ( Pisum sativum ) is severely affected, and only moderate levels of genetic resistance have so far been identified. In the present work we selected the most resistant accession available (Ps 624) and compared it with a susceptible (Messire) cultivar. Candidiasis has become a prevalent infection in different types of immunocompromised patients. The cell wall of Candida albicans plays important functions during the host-fungus interactions. Cell wall (surface) proteins of C. albicans are major elicitors of host immune responses during candidiasis, and represent candidates for vaccine development. Groups of mice were vaccinated subcutaneously with a beta-mercaptoethanol (beta-ME) extract from C. albicans containing cell wall proteins. Vaccinated mice were then infected with a lethal dose of C. albicans. Integrative analysis of cyclin protein levels identifies cyclin b1 as a classifier and predictor of outcomes in breast cancer

Abstract Purpose: We studied the expression levels of cyclins B1, D1, and E1 and the implications of cyclin overexpression for patient outcomes in distinct breast cancer subtypes defined by clinical variables and transcriptional profiling. Experimental Design: The expression levels of cyclins B1, D1, and E1 were quantified in 779 breast tumors and 53 cell lines using reverse phase protein arrays and/or transcriptional profiling.
