National audience; Les historiens présentent habituellement la syndicalisation en France comme une longue faiblesse structurelle interrompue par quelques vagues de courte durée (1918‑1920 ; 1936‑1938 ; 1944‑1947 ; 1968). Cette présentation semble correspondre à la première moitié du xxe siècle. En revanche, après la Libération et pendant une trentaine d’années, la France a connu un véritable syndicalisme de masse. Dans les années 1970, s’ouvre une nouvelle période caractérisée par la désyndicalisation. Elle va interroger, précocement, bien des observateurs (Noblecourt, 1990). Contribution to a collective study about trade unionism in the main developed countries. The article presents an overview of the French unions at the beginning of the 21th century. It examines the explanations of the decline of the unionization and of the falling of social conflicts. Conversely, negotiation is developing at the firm level and its scopes appear to increase, that is opening the possibility of a soft and silent deregulation. The organizations of employers and the trade unions form an oligopoly in peace (cartel).
