A Velocity Estimation Technique for a Monocular Camera Using mmWave FMCW Radars
2021
Perception in terms of object detection, classification, and dynamic estimation (position and velocity) are fundamental functionalities that autonomous agents (unmanned ground vehicles, unmanned aerial vehicles, or robots) have to navigate safely and autonomously. To date, various sensors have been used individually or in combination to achieve this goal. In this paper, we present a novel method for leveraging millimeter wave radar’s (mmW radar’s) ability to accurately measure position and velocity in order to improve and optimize velocity estimation using a monocular camera (using optical flow) and machine learning techniques. The proposed method eliminates ambiguity in optical flow veloci…
Analysis of the psicometric properties of a multiplication and division processes assessment scale
2019
Esta comunicación se encuentra disponible en la siguiente URL: http://www.infad.eu/RevistaINFAD/OJS/index.php/IJODAEP/article/view/1464/1321 Este número está dedicado a la "Psicología de la Educación y Saberes Originarios". The domain of multiplication and division operations depends on both algorithm management and the ability to identify the semantic structure of the problem and to translate it into mathematical language. Many students present difficulties in identifying the semantic structure of the problem but not applying the algorithm when the problem is presented numericaly. The aim of the study is to validate an assessment tool of the processes involved in multiplication and divisio…
Brain-Activity-Driven Real-Time Music Emotive Control
2013
Active music listening has emerged as a study field that aims to enable listeners to interactively control music. Most of active music listening systems aim to control music aspects such as playback, equalization, browsing, and retrieval, but few of them aim to control expressive aspects of music to convey emotions. In this study our aim is to enrich the music listening experience by allowing listeners to control expressive parameters in music performances using their perceived emotional state, as detected from their brain activity. We obtain electro-encephalogram (EEG) data using a low-cost EEG device and then map this information into a coordinate in the emotional arousalvalence plane. Th…
Musical Feature and Novelty Curve Characterizations as Predictors of Segmentation Accuracy
2017
Novelty detection is a well-established method for analyzing the structure of music based on acoustic descriptors. Work on novelty-based segmentation prediction has mainly concentrated on enhancement of features and similarity matrices, novelty kernel computation and peak detection. Less attention, however, has been paid to characteristics of musical features and novelty curves, and their contribution to segmentation accuracy. This is particularly important as it can help unearth acoustic cues prompting perceptual segmentation and find new determinants of segmentation model performance. This study focused on spectral, rhythmic and harmonic prediction of perceptual segmentation density, whic…
Copper and Palladium NWs for Hydrogen Peroxide detection
2018
H2O2 is a wide used chemical in different field, like in paper and textile industries and pharmaceutical applications. Furthermore, H2O2 concentration in human body is related to glucose concentration because the reaction between glucose and glucosidase produce hydrogen peroxide [1] . Moreover, is used as a biomarker of oxidative stress, being an oxidative specie [2] . For all these reasons, researcher all over the world are working to develop new and novel strategies for in situ, non-invasive and fast detection of this chemical. One of these fields concern the electrochemical sensors, that are sensors with an electrical (current, potential, impedance) output. The surface area the electrode…
Community detection of seismic point processes
2022
In this paper, we combine robin and Local Indicators of Spatio-Temporal Association (LISTA) functions. robin is an R package to assess the robustness of the community structure of a network found by one or more methods to give indications about their reliability. We use it to propose a classification algorithm of events in a spatio-temporal point pattern, by means of the local second-order characteristics and the community detection procedure in network analysis. We demonstrate the proposed procedure on a real data analysis on seismic data.

Increasing the Astrophysical Reach of the Advanced Virgo Detector via the Application of Squeezed Vacuum States of Light
2019
Current interferometric gravitational-wave detectors are limited by quantum noise over a wide range of their measurement bandwidth. One method to overcome the quantum limit is the injection of squeezed vacuum states of light into the interferometer's dark port. Here, we report on the successful application of this quantum technology to improve the shot noise limited sensitivity of the Advanced Virgo gravitational-wave detector. A sensitivity enhancement of up to 3.2±0.1 dB beyond the shot noise limit is achieved. This nonclassical improvement corresponds to a 5%-8% increase of the binary neutron star horizon. The squeezing injection was fully automated and over the first 5 months of the thi…
The advanced Virgo longitudinal control system for the O2 observing run
2020
Following a successful period of data-taking between 2006 and 2011, the Virgo gravitational-wave detector was taken offline for a major upgrade. The changes made to the instrument significantly increased the complexity of the control systems and meant that an extended period of commissioning was required to reach a sensitivity appropriate for science data-taking. This commissioning period was completed in July of 2017 and the second-generation Advanced Virgo detector went on to join the Advanced LIGO detectors in the O2 science run in August of the same year. The upgraded detector was approximately twice as sensitive to binary neutron star mergers as the first-generation instrument. During …
GW170817: Observation of Gravitational Waves from a Binary Neutron Star Inspiral
2017
On August 17, 2017 at 12-41:04 UTC the Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo gravitational-wave detectors made their first observation of a binary neutron star inspiral. The signal, GW170817, was detected with a combined signal-to-noise ratio of 32.4 and a false-alarm-rate estimate of less than one per 8.0×104 years. We infer the component masses of the binary to be between 0.86 and 2.26 M, in agreement with masses of known neutron stars. Restricting the component spins to the range inferred in binary neutron stars, we find the component masses to be in the range 1.17-1.60 M, with the total mass of the system 2.74-0.01+0.04M. The source was localized within a sky region of 28 deg2 (90% probabili…
