Engaging People and Co-Producing Research with Persons and Communities to Foster Person-Centred Care: A Meta-Synthesis
2021
Introduction: Engagement and co-production in healthcare research and innovation are crucial for delivering person-centred interventions in underserved communities, but the knowledge of effective strategies to target this population is still vague, limiting the provision of person-centred care. Our research aimed to identify essential knowledge to foster engagement and co-production. Materials and Methods: A meta-synthesis research design was used to compile existing qualitative research papers on health communication, engagement, and empowerment in vulnerable groups in high-income countries (HICs) from 2008 to 2018. A total of 23 papers were selected and analysed. Results: ‘Design and recr…
Explaining Ethiopia’s Growth Acceleration—The Role of Infrastructure and Macroeconomic Policy
2017
Summary Ethiopia has experienced an impressive growth acceleration over the past decade. This was achieved on the back of an economic strategy emphasizing public infrastructure investment supported by heterodox macro-financial policies. This paper identifies the drivers of Ethiopia’s recent growth episode and examines the extent to which they were typical or unique. It combines country-specific information with the results of a cross-country panel regression model. We find that Ethiopia’s growth is explained well by factors correlating with growth in a broad range of countries in recent decades, including public infrastructure investment, restrained government consumption, and a conducive e…
Patterns and determinants of adherence to resistance and endurance training during cancer treatment in the Phys-Can RCT.
2022
Abstract Background Knowledge regarding adherence is necessary to improve the specificity of exercise interventions during cancer treatment. We aimed to determine adherence to resistance and endurance training interventions in parallel; identify subgroups with similar adherence characteristics; and examine determinants of these subgroups. Methods In the Phys-Can randomised controlled trial, participants (n = 577, 81% women, mean(SD) age 59(12) years, and 50% with BMI ≥ 25 kg/m2) starting (neo-) adjuvant treatment for breast, colorectal or prostate cancer were randomized to 6-month of high (HI) or low-to-moderate intensity (LMI) supervised, group-based resistance training and individual home…
Entrepreneurship in Burkina Faso : An Economic Analysis of Occupational Choices in the Labor Market and Student Entrepreneurial Intentions
2020
The dominant view of entrepreneurship, particularly in developed countries, is a risky, dynamic activity undertaken voluntarily by a certain category of individuals - " so-called superstars" - in order to benefit more earning opportunities and greater social influence. However, this dynamic view of entrepreneurship contrasts with what is generally described in developing countries, where self-employment is largely conducted in the informal sector; a segment of the labor market that is considered "precarious" and only allows the individual to escape unemployment. Nevertheless, a number of studies, in Africa and more so in Latin America, show that this segment is desirable and likely to provi…
Families of rational solutions to the KPI equation of order 7 depending on 12 parameters
2017
International audience; We construct in this paper, rational solutions as a quotient of two determinants of order 2N = 14 and we obtain what we call solutions of order N = 7 to the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation (KPI) as a quotient of 2 polynomials of degree 112 in x, y and t depending on 12 parameters. The maximum of modulus of these solutions at order 7 is equal to 2(2N + 1)2= 450. We make the study of the patterns of their modulus in the plane (x, y) and their evolution according to time and parameters a1, a2, a3, a4, a5, a6, b1, b2, b3, b4, b5, b6. When all these parameters grow, triangle and ring structures are obtained.

Strangers on the board
2019
The internationalization of firms has led to boards becoming more international as well. In this study, we investigate the consequences of board internationalization. In particular, by drawing on research on language and board dynamics, we identify theory-based reasons why board internationalization could increase, or decrease, earnings management practices. We use agency theory, stressing how board internationalization may positively or negatively affect monitoring quality of boards. Next to agency theory, we use theories explaining how language differences in the boardroom complicates communication and how differences in language structures (referred to as linguistic relativity in the lit…
Suspected motor problems and low preference for active play in childhood are associated with physical inactivity and low fitness in adolescence.
2011
Background This prospective longitudinal study investigates whether suspected motor problems and low preference for active play in childhood are associated with physical inactivity and low cardiorespiratory fitness in adolescence. Methodology/Principal Findings The study sample consisted of the Northern Finland Birth Cohort 1986 (NFBC 1986) composed of 5,767 children whose parents responded to a postal inquiry concerning their children's motor skills at age 8 years and who themselves reported their physical activity at age 16 years. Cardiorespiratory fitness was measured with a cycle ergometer test at age 16 years. Odds ratios (OR) and their 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) for the level o…

Master's Thesis Public Health Science ME516 - University of Agder 2019 Background and aim: The purpose of this project was to study how municipalitieswork tooreducesocial inequalitiesin the local community.Studies have indicated that there exist a multitude of solutionsin how municipalities address thistopic. The last couple of years studies have indicated that an increasingnumberofmunicipalitiesaddress social determinants of health, compared to traditional lifestylessolutionsas nutrition, physical activityand drugs.A variety of studies have also indicated thatmunicipal structure, capacityand collaboration with external actors affects inwhat degree municipalities implement a systematic publi…
The Role of Risk and Information for International Capital Flows: New Evidence from the SDDS
2012
In this paper, we investigate whether better information about the macroeconomic environment of an economy has a positive impact on its capital inflows, namely portfolio and foreign direct investment (FDI). The purpose of our study is to explicitly quantify information asymmetries by compliance with the IMF's Special Data Dissemination Standard (SDDS). For FDI, we fi nd statistically signi cant and robust support for this hypothesis: SDDS subscription increased inflows by an economically relevant magnitude of about 60 percent. We also find evidence of aversion against political and macroeconomic risk as determinants of portfolio and FDI flows and use a non-parametric test for spatial correl…
