The relativistic spin-orbit current in deuteron photodisintegration below and above ?-threshold

It is shown that the spin-orbit current which leads to an improved description ofd(γ,p)n below π-threshold is essentially a two-body exchange effect. This is demonstrated by separation of its one-body contribution. Furthermore, above π-threshold its inclusion leads to an improved agreement with experiment, in particular for the differential cross section in the Δ-excitation region.
Investigation of the Li9+H2→Li8+t reaction at REX-ISOLDE

The one-neutron transfer reaction Li-9 + H-2 -> Li-8 + t has been investigated in an inverse kinematics experiment by bombarding a deuterated polypropylene target with a 2.36 MeV/u Li-9 beam from the post-accelerator REX-ISOLDE at CERN. Excitation energies in Li-8 as well as angular distributions of the tritons were obtained and spectroscopic factors deduced. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The Sun is fueled by a series of nuclear reactions that produce the energy that makes it shine. The primary reaction is the fusion of two protons into a deuteron, a positron and a neutrino. These neutrinos constitute the vast majority of neutrinos reaching Earth, providing us with key information about what goes on at the core of our star. Several experiments have now confirmed the observation of neutrino oscillations by detecting neutrinos from secondary nuclear processes in the Sun; this is the first direct spectral measurement of the neutrinos from the keystone proton-proton fusion. The 16O(γ, 2N) reaction measured with tagged photons

The results of tagged-photon measurements of the 4He(γ, pn)d, 4He(γ, pn)pn and 4He(γ, pp)nn reactions, carried out with photons of energies 80–131 MeV, are presented. The (γ, pn)d three-body-breakup cross section dominates the four-body-breakup cross section. The three-body-breakup cross section and the corresponding deuteron recoil-momentum spectrum are reasonably accounted for by a mechanism of photon absorption on correlated proton-neutron pairs. In contrast the four-body-breakup mechanism appears to have two components: absorption on correlated proton-neutron pairs and a more complex additional component which has a distribution similar to phase space. Nuclear structure of 131Te studied with (n,γ) and reactions

Abstract The structure of 131 Te has been investigated with the 130 Te( n , γγ ) 131 Te reaction using thermal neutrons and with the 130 Te( d , p ) 131 Te reaction using polarized deuterons with energy E d =18 MeV. About 290 levels were identified in most cases including spin, parity and γ -decay. The γ -decay scheme after neutron capture is essentially complete containing about 100% of the decay of the capture state and about 100% of the population of the 11/2 − isomer and of the ground state. Abstract A detailed experimental analysis of the π+d → π+π−pp in-plane coincidence data first presented by Rui et al. is compared to an expanded version of the Oset and Vicente-Vacas model for pion-induced pion production on a free nucleon. This extended model averages over Fermi motion to describe the assumed quasifree nature of the process occurring on the deuteron and includes nine additional diagrams to account for the N ∗ → N (ππ) p-wave reaction channels. Dialkoxide diorganotin(IV) complexes are known to readily react with carbon dioxide under pressure and they are considered as suitable catalyst precursor models for the direct synthesis of organic carbonates. To gain a better understanding of CO2 insertion processes with Sn-OR bonds, the reactivity of n-Bu2Sn(OCH(CH3)(2))(2) (2) was investigated using high-pressure NMR (HP-NMR) spectroscopy. A study of quasi-elastic muon neutrino and antineutrino scattering in the NOMAD experiment

We have studied the muon neutrino and antineutrino quasi-elastic (QEL) scattering reactions ($\nu_\mu n\to \mu^- p$ and $\bar{\nu}_\mu p\to \mu^+ n$) using a set of experimental data collected by the NOMAD collaboration. We have performed measurements of the cross-section of these processes on a nuclear target (mainly Carbon) normalizing it to the total $\nu_\mu$ ($\bar{\nu}_\mu$) charged current cross-section. The results for the flux averaged QEL cross-sections in the (anti)neutrino energy interval 3-100 GeV are $\sigma^{qel}_{\nu_\mu} = (0.92 \pm 0.02 (stat) \pm 0.06 (syst))\times 10^{-38} \cm^2$ and $\sigma{qel}_{\bar{\nu}_\mu} = (0.81 \pm 0.05 (stat) \pm 0.08 (syst))\times 10^{-38} \cm…

A new measurement of the parity-violating asymmetry in the electron-deuteron quasielastic scattering for backward angles at $⟨{Q}^{2}⟩=0.224\text{ }\text{ }{(\mathrm{GeV}/c)}^{2}$, obtained in the A4 experiment at the Mainz Microtron accelerator (MAMI) facility, is presented. Completely isolatedAplysia pacemaker neurons were used to investigate mechanisms of endogenous electrical rhythmicity. This preparation allows the study of pure pacemaker activity free from synaptic, ephaptic and/or humoral influences from the surrounding cells. The effect of some substances quite different in their mode of biochemical action were tested: sodium iodoacetate, phloridzin, dinitrophenol, heavy water, and ouabain. Each of these substances suppressed the spontaneous spike activity without any marked depolarizing or hyperpolarizing effect. Spontaneous spike activity of the neurons silenced after addition of one of these substances reappeared after addition of glucose. The restori…
