Relativistic Corrections and Unitary Equivalence

1992

Model calculations of the charge and quadrupole deuteron form factors were performed starting from a class of approximately unitary equivalent Hamiltonians and using consistent charge density operators. The approximate unitary equivalence was tested numerically and found to break down already for rather small values of momentum transfer.

Relativistic corrections in quasi-free electro-disintegration of the deuteron

1992

The role of relativistic effects in deuteron break-up by electrons is investigated for quasi-free kinematics by including the lowest-order relativistic corrections beyond the nonrelativistic limit to electromagnetic operators and by wave-function boost. In particular, the dependence of form factors and structure functions on the frame in which they are calculated is studied. It is found that the inclusion of these corrections leads to observables that are less frame-dependent than for a pure nonrelativistic description. The boost contributions show a decisive influence even though they are small in absolute size. Furthermore, the dependence on the parametrization of the nucleon current in t…

The rare isotopomers of HCN: HC15N and DC15N. Rotational spectrum and resolved nuclear hyperfine structures due to 15N and D.

2005

In the present work the J + 1 ← J rotational transitions, with J = 0-7, of HC15N and the J + 1 ← J rotational transitions, with J = 0-7, 9, of DC15N have been investigated. The Lamb-dip technique has been employed in order to resolve the hyperfine structure due to deuterium and 15N. For HC15N, the hyperfine parameters have been determined for the first time. With respect to DC15N, only the spin rotation of 15N have been determined for the first time but a more reliable spin rotation of D has been obtained. The experimental evaluation of the hyperfine constants has been aided by highly accurate ab initio computations. Furthermore, the rotational transitions observed allowed us to provide the…

Simulation of cluster impact fusion

1992

We report molecular dynamics simulations of the impact of TiD clusters on TiD targets. In each cluster collision the total fusion probability seems to be due to a single deuterium deuterium collision. The kinetic energies of incident deuterium atoms gradually level off around the initial cluster energy, but do not reach the high energy tail of a corresponding Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution. Neither any other support for a thermonuclear fusion mechanism was observed. On the contrary, our simulations imply that the enhanced fusion rate is rather due to channeled many atom collision cascade type mechanism.

Photoreactions with tensor-polarized deuterium target at VEPP–3

2011

We give an overview of the activity in studying photoprocesses on a tensor-polarized deuterium target, which is carried out at the VEPP–3 electron storage ring. Recent experimental results on tensor asymmetries in two-body deuteron photodisintegration at the photon energy up to 500 MeV, and in coherent pion photoproduction on deuteron are presented. Plans to upgrade the facility and future experiments are discussed. Further progress is connected with the installation of a tagging system for almost-real photons. This would allow us to extend the measurements of polarization observables in photonuclear reactions on deuteron up to a photon energy of 1.5 GeV and permit to perform double polariz…

Cluster Structure of $^9$Be by Scattering of Deuterons

2017

International audience; Angular distributions of protons, deuterons, tritons and alpha particles emitted in the reaction 2H+9Be at Elab=19.5 MeV were measured with an aim to shed light on the internal cluster structure of 9Be and to study possible cluster transfer of 5He. The analyses suggest a significant contribution of five-nucleon transfer in the reaction channel 9Be(d,4He)7Li.

Rotational excitation of mono- and doubly-deuterated water by hydrogen molecules

2011

Rate coefficients for rotational transitions in HDO and D2O induced by H2 collisions below 300 K are presented. Calculations have been performed at the close-coupling and coupledstates levels with the deuterated variants of the H2O–H2 interaction potential of Valiron et al. The HDO–H2 and D2O–H2 rate coefficients are compared to the corresponding rate coefficients for HDO–He and H2O–H2, respectively. Significant differences are observed. In particular the new HDO rate coefficients are found to be significantly larger (by up to three orders of magnitude) than the corresponding HDO–He rate coefficients. The impact of the new HDO rate coefficients is examined with the help of non-LTE radiative…

PRECISE LABORATORY MEASUREMENTS OF TRANS-DCOOH AND TRANS-HCOOD FOR ASTROPHYSICAL OBSERVATIONS

2011

The rotational spectra of the mono-deuterated isotopologues of trans-formic acid, trans-DCOOH and trans-HCOOD, were investigated. In the millimeter- and submillimeter-wave frequency regions the Lamb-dip technique was exploited to obtain sub-Doppler resolution and to resolve the hyperfine structure due to the deuterium and hydrogen nuclei, thus enabling the accurate determination of the corresponding hyperfine constants. The experimental determination was supported by high-level quantum-chemical calculations at the coupled-cluster level of theory using large atomic-orbital basis sets. The Lamb-dip measurements were also supplemented by THz Doppler- limited measurements in order to extend the…

A study of VUV emission and the extracted electron-ion ratio in hydrogen and deuterium plasmas of a filament-driven H−/D− ion source

2019

Vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) emission diagnostics for studying differences of electron impact processes in hydrogen and deuterium plasmas are presented. The method is applied to study a filament driven multicusp arc discharge negative ion source by comparing the VUV-emission intensities of different emission bands and extracted currents of H−/D− ions and electrons. It was found that the ratio of coextracted electrons to extracted ions is four times higher for deuterium than for hydrogen. No significant differences of the VUV-spectra or volumetric rates of ionization, excitation, production of high vibrational states, and dissociation were found between the plasmas of the two isotopes. The volum…

Nuclear Modification ofψ′,χc, andJ/ψProduction ind+AuCollisions atsNN=200  GeV

2013

We present results for three charmonia states (psi' chi(c), and J/ psi) in d + Au collisions at vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.35 and root s(NN) = 200 GeV. We find that the modification of the psi' yield relative to that of the J/ psi scales approximately with charged particle multiplicity at midrapidity across p + A, d + Au, and A + A results from the Super Proton Synchrotron and the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. In large-impact-parameter collisions we observe a similar suppression for the psi' and J/ psi, while in small-impact-parameter collisions the more weakly bound psi' is more strongly suppressed. Owing to the short time spent traversing the Au nucleus, the larger psi' suppressio…
