Neutron yields from thick 12C and 9Be targets irradiated by 50 and 65 MeV deuterons
2001
Abstract Absolute intensities, angular distributions and energy spectra of neutrons emitted from thick 12 C and 9 Be targets irradiated with 50 and 65 MeV deuterons, respectively, have been measured. The neutron spectra were measured by time-of-flight (TOF) technique. The detectors provided continuous coverage from 0° to 60° where a significant angular dependence of emitted neutrons was found. The yield of 0.109(10) neutrons/deuteron from the 9 Be target is a factor of two higher than that from the 12 C target, 0.056(6) neutrons/deuteron. The hardness parameters of the neutron spectra are calculated for the radiation damage studies of the silicon devices.
Investigation of the (d, p)-reaction on136, 132Xe in inverse kinematics
1991
The one-neutron transfer reactions d(132,136 Xe, p)133,137 Xe have been investigated in inverse kinematics with xenon beams incident on deuterium loaded titanium targets. The angular distributions of the protons, measured with a detector array of 100 PIN-photodiodes, have been analyzed using standard DWBA. Generally, good agreement is obtained with results previously obtained in reactions induced by light-ion beams.
Transmission of very slow neutrons through material foils and its influence on the design of ultracold neutron sources
2009
At the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), a very intense source of ultracold neutrons (UCN) is being built. The UCN converter of solid deuterium must be contained in a vessel. Produced UCN leave that vessel through its top lid. To decide on the design of the vessel and the top lid, we have measured the transmission of neutrons with velocities between 3 and 20 m/s through different material foils. Contrary to expectations, we found that transmission through aluminium and aluminium alloys is equal or even higher compared to zirconium and reactor-grade zirconium alloys, respectively.
Double- π0 photoproduction from the deuteron
2000
The photoproduction of two neutral pions from the deuteron has been studied for incident photon energies from 200 MeV to 820 MeV with the TAPS spectrometer at MAMI (Mainz Microtron). The total cross-section was determined and used to deduce the cross-section from the neutron. Due to the good statistical quality of the data Dalitz plots for the three particles in the exit channel (pi (0)pi N-0) could be constructed. The invariant mass distributions derived from them are presented in this paper. They indicate that the important reaction mechanism in the second resonance region is a sequential decay pattern involving the population of the Delta (1232)-resonance as an intermediate state.

Model independent determination of GEn from the reaction
1988
Abstract Electrodisintegration of vector polarized deuterium by longitudinally polarized electrons offers a possibility for measuring the neutron electric form factor G En . In principle, the electron asymmetry is essentially proportional to G En when quasi-free kinematics are employed. We investigate the model dependence of this result by employing several NN force models both with and without meson-exchange and isobar corrections. We find the asymmetry to be remarkably model independent near the neutron quasi-elastic peak.
Proton-Deuteron Break Up Including Coulomb Effects
1994
The first results of the calculation of proton-deuteron break-up cross sections are presented and compared with experimental data.
Pion Exchange Current Effects in ν μ + d → μ − +p + p
1986
The effect of pion exchange currents in the process νμ + d → μ− +p + p is estimated using realistic wave functions for the deuteron and closure over the final dinucleon states. Its implications on the determination of axial vector form factor FA(q2) are discussed.
A Statistical Analysis of the Nuclear Structure Uncertainties in $$\mu $$D
2020
The charge radius of the deuteron (D), was recently determined to three times the precision compared with previous measurements using the measured Lamb shift in muonic deuterium (\(\mu \)D). However, the \(\mu \)D value is 5.6 \(\sigma \) smaller than the world averaged CODATA-2014 value (Pohl R et al. (2016) Science 353:669 [1]). To shed light on this discrepancy we analyze the uncertainties of the nuclear structure calculations of the Lamb shift in \(\mu \)D and conclude that nuclear theory uncertainty is not likely to be the source of the discrepancy.
Exchange currents in the deuteron
2008
The present status of exchange currents and their contribution to deuteron disintegration by real and virtual photons is reviewed. The importance of the Siegert theorem for electric transitions is stressed. Various experiments in photoabsorption, electron and photon scattering with respect to influences of exchange currents are discussed.
