Clinical research focused in European adult women with minority diseases: Do we try hard enough?

We analyzed the European countries participation in clinical trials addressing to new drug development focused on rare diseases in women comparing to more prevalent diseases as breast cancer. Participation was not associated with type of healthcare system neither socio-economic features, but it was associated with population size. Protocol ratios focused on breast cancer vs. orphan drugs and rare diseases was 15:1 and 9:1, respectively, mainly focused on ovarian cancer. Protocol number was insufficient to evaluate the success of Regulation (EC) 141/2000, it is necessary to increase the scientific quality and the number of really new molecules.

Aim: Malnutrition is a major public health issue that has been associated with high susceptibility for impaired brain development and mental functioning. However, to date studies on this topic have not been collated and appraised. This systematic review and meta-analysis investigated the association between malnutrition and cognitive development. Methods: We searched the MEDLINE, Scopus, CINAHL, Embase PsycINFO and Cochrane Library databases in English up to 8 December 2020. Effects of prolonged and maintenance strength training on force production, walking, and balance in aging women and men

To examine effects of 21-week twice/week strength training (ST) period followed by an additional 21-week twice or once/week ST period on force production, walking and balance in aging people. Seventy-two women (58 ± 7 years; W) and 63 (58 ± 6 years) men (M) were randomized for the first 21-week ST period: STW and STM, control (C) CW and CM. Training participants were randomized for the second 21-week ST period: once/week STWx1 and STMx1, twice/week STWx2 and STMx2. Osteoporosis is “a systemic disease characterized by a reduction in bone mass and a microarchitectonic alteration of the skeleton, with a consequent increase in skeleton fragility and susceptibility to fractures”, as defined by the last Consensus Development Conference1.
